I have a model I have built that has performed quite well on back tests approx two years. and forward tests ~4 months. Initially I wanted to monetize this by trading my own capital and taking money from friends/family. This has not been pretty bad but I'm thinking of "Selling" the signal (not the software). Has anyone here had an experience doing this? is there any where I can get more tips on how to do this and how I can estimate what kind of revenue I can expect to get from this?

Sorry if this is a dupe but I cant find any similar posts.

Oh really? Where can I sign up? Im in! I'm sure it makes money and this is the get rich quick ticket I've been searching for. What's more, I trust that the signal is going to work without fault for the next 10 years+.

I cant wait!!

I've got a load of friends with more money than sense too. I'm sure they'll be in.

Please send details to [email protected]

@dezudezue: First your thread title is misleading. You want to sell signals not your indicator. Furthermore it is your first post at BM and you claim that you have a working system. It's wiser to verify your system with the help of other members first. Make a step back and talk about your system in general and showing us some system statistics. Then we could talk about the pitfalls of trading system development.

@Koepisch I'm just looking for examples of ways people on these boards have done it in the past.

There are plenty of ways.

If you have your code written for MT4 then you could simply set people up with a metatrader4 copier and charge them a monthly fee to auto copy your trades. they would be in charge of their risk parameters and any trades that are placed in your account would be auto placed in theirs. pretty simple.

Then you just create a website for it and then people sign up through the website.

Just, please, do not use any misleading numbers. There are so many signal sellers out there who simply use overoptimized and backtested results showing incredible returns and then market them to people who don't know what they are doing. It creates a bad name for traders and the industry.

It would be really great if you post the statistics and some of the traders here can help you with which statistics to add to it and how to demonstrate to people that they are actually real results and have the potential to be even better quality statistics (not higher profits, just using statistics that matter and not those that make the system look all nice and shiny). Please, if you are using hypothetical results, let people know. Don't say that they are real when they are not - it is just not fair to the consumer.

There's my two $, £, € worth.

btw, i am assuming fx when i mention the use of mt4, even though your profile states that your favorite instrument in the ES. I assume that simply because you posted this in FX.

If it is signals you provide, try Collective2.com. If you trade it with your own money, and want followers, services like striker.com or worldcupadvisor.com may be worth looking into.

If your system is as good as you imply, just trade it yourself. Once you have a track record, you could turn into a CTA. But trading it yourself is the best way to monetize your work (albeit with some risk).

And welcome to futures.io (formerly BMT)! It is a friendly place, even though I see a troll already posted. There is an "ignore" feature that you might find helpful for people like that.

OP - If you make your own website or create your own promotional material, make sure you know the regulations on advertising. For example, ANY results you show have to have a hypothetical disclaimer, even if they are real. Why? Because, what is real to you is hypothetical to a customer, since it did not happen to them.

Many people have gotten in trouble with the CFTC and NFA for illegal promotional material. Protect yourself.

I dunno, seeing as you would be the first to accomplish such a feat. If you asked me how to sell a completely useless indicator then I could help you there.

I would like to remind everyone to keep their comments civil. Everyone has to start somewhere, and not everyone is trying to run a scam.
