(Reuters) - Trading was halted on the
Nasdaq stock exchange on Thursday because of technical problems while U.S. stocks rose slightly.
All traffic through Nasdaq stopped at 12:14 p.m.
EDT , the exchange said on its website, adding that trading in all Nasdaq-listed shares would be halted until further notice.
The Securities and Exchange Commission said it was monitoring the situation, while Nasdaq, owned by NASDAQ OMX Group (NDAQ.O), urged securities firms to route all their trades elsewhere.
"We're in the moment of unknown right now. We see bumps (in trading) often, but they're usual brief and rarely this broad based," said Frank Davis, director of sales and trading at LEK Securities in New York. "We're trying to figure out when things will get cleaned up."

NASDAQ intends to re-open trading in all
Tape C securities with a halt
cross with a 5-minute quote only period starting at a time to be
determined. NASDAQ will not be cancelling open orders on the
book. Customers who wish to cancel their orders may do so and any
customer who wishes to not participate in the re-opening should cancel
their orders prior to the resumption of trading. Additionally, NASDAQ
will clear all stale quotes from the UTP SIP prior to the commencement
of trading.

First it was BATS self-helping against
NYSE Arca, now it's Nasdaq's turn to break. Joking aside, AAPL dipped below $500 literally minutes before the NASDAQ broke. We joked earlier when we said any selling is enough to break the market. Now, we are not so sure...

NYSE_MKT has also halted trading in NASDAQ Tape C securities (these are the NASDAQ Small-Cap Market, or NCM).

The latest statement from NASDAQ :Tape C securities with a 15-minute quote only period. NASDAQ will first re-open trading in symbols ZVZZT and AAIT with a 15-minute quoting period beginning at 14:30 EDT , with trading beginning at approximately 14:45 EDT. All other securities will then be released at 14:55 EDT with a 15-minute quote only period with trading resuming at approximately 15:10 EDT.

And... We Reopen | Zero Hedge The NBBO Breaks: AAPL Offers Are Below Bids | Zero Hedge Nasdaq was so desperate to rush and "fix" itself, somehow in the process it forgot all about the NBBO and that the bid has to be below the ask price.
