HELP in determining the Gain/Loss per move in SI,PL,NG,LE,etc.....
Hey guys, I need some help in how to calculate what my gain and or loss would be in various Indecies and Commodities. My main ones of concern are the ZB and ZN ( for the bonds markets ), SI, GC and PL for the ( Metals ) NG ( for Energy ) CL ( Oil ) and lastly ZC, ZS and LE ( for commodities ). I have been on the CME website to try and configure each ones value in terms of their 1 pip/ 1 tick/ 1 cent or 10 cent moves. And it's a bit confusing to me. For instance, it says silver is worth $5 for each 1 cent in its price fluctuation. Correct ? Platinum.... each 1 cent move equals .50 cents Correct ? So how do I calculate the others in terms of what a 1 cent / 5 cent move in that underlying Indices/commodity translates into. Thanks alot guys, I really apprecitae your time and help. I'm a bit of a newbie to this, just needing a bit of help here - Mike
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
(1) Go to the CME website and look up the contract specifications.
(2) Look at the NinjaTrader instrument manager whether your findings matches with the settings.
Example: You want to understand gain and loss for silver. This is the information copied from the CME website.
Contract Size 5,000 troy ounces
Price Quotation U.S. Cents per troy ounce
Please note: Prices are disseminated in U.S. Dollars and Cents
Minimum Fluctuation Outright transactions including EFP: $0.005 per troy ounce.
The price is quoted in dollars and cent. Today's (February 20) settlement price was $28.62 per troy ounce. The figure shown on my chart is 28.620
Value of 1 lot = 5,000 troy ounces * $ 28.62 per troy ounce = $ 143,100
This means that your futures contract behaves in a similar way as an investment of 5,000 troy ounces silver, which would cost you something close to $ 143,100 in cash.
Minimum price fluctuation = TickSize = $ 0.005
Value per tick = 5,000 troy ounces * $ 0.005 = $ 25.
Value per full point = 5,000 troy ounces * $ 1 = $ 5,000
For example, if you had entered a 1 lot short position on Tuesday evening at $ 29.410 per troy ounce and if you had exited on Wednesday evening at $ 28.620 per troy ounce, you would have made a profit of
