Hey all,

I am using Camtasia 8.0.1 to record my trades and seem to be having an issue with the time it takes to render. My PC is an Intel I5 with 4gigs RAM running Windows 7. I am rendering my videos as an mp4, 60% quality, framerate automatic.

I recorded about 2 hours of my trading yesterday and am currently rendering the video. The camtasia camrec file is 1.6gig. It has been rendering for 90 minutes so far and is 15% completed. Maybe that's normal but it seems extremely slow! At this rate it will take +-10 hours to complete.

I have checked my CPU usage and it stays at around 35-38%. So it's not like my CPU is working very hard to get this job done . I read somewhere about increasing the priority of processes by going to task manager and right clicking on the process. I have tried this and selected "set priority -> high" but I get an error saying "The operation could not be completed. Access denied". I have started camtasia as Administrator and still cant change the priority of the process.

Is there anything else I can do to speed the rendering up?

Much appreciated.

Stupid question.

Why you use camtasia and not the windows integrated video capabilities? The WIndows Media Encoder has the same capability and a screen optimized codec. Playback is - well, the result is a normal avi file.

I routinely encode 2 hour webinars in Camtasia, it takes about 20 minutes on my system (i7 2700k overclocked to 5.0ghz).

The problem is likely your source material. I would look to get the source closer to the final encode, in terms of frame rate, quality, etc. A 1.6gb raw file might encode down to 200MB, so the encoder is doing a lot of work to figure out what it can drop. Check your source settings and find better ones.

It is in the Recorder.

Try reducing the recording frame rate to 1 frame per second. you can do that on the recorder menu. Audio does not change.

Are you rendering because you edited it and now you want to post it? Or is it just for personal use? Just save the recoded video and if you are only reviewing trades, playback using the camtasia player. No redering to MP4 required.

I record all my videos with Camtasia. But they are ussually less than 20 minutes.

1.6 gigs is huge! The help menu on Cantasia has a number of suggestions to reduce video size.

Hi,

The rendered videos are just for my personal use (learning, review etc). The reason im rendering them is because the original files are so big and I read somewhere that mp4 files are a good choice for small size with reasonably good quality. But as you and BigMike have said maybe there is a problem with my settings so I should be able to speed things up.

I've just gone into the recorder settings and see that my capture framerate is set at 30 and the compression is set at "Higher quality, large file size". Ill try play around with that a bit.

thanks.

So I reduced the capture compression down to around 50% and reduced the capture framerate to 1. An hour of video created a 52mb file which im very happy with. I think I will therefore just use the suggestion from @VinceVirgil and watch my trades with camtasia instead of rendering them.

No point in rendering a file which is already so small and good enough quality for personal viewing.

Thanks.
