NT8 will get a tabbed interface for the charts to create a more usable workspace, but we don't know when that will be released and it's not likely to be too soon.

I have been able to organise my charts more efficiently on the screen using a free application called Dexpot, which is designed to provide virtual desktops and to enhance the Windows management.

Virtual desktops can be used to provide four desktops, for example. Your monitor can only display one at a time, but you can switch between desktops with keyboard short cuts or with an application. For example, with one monitor, you could have your charts on desktop 1, your brokers trading application of desktop 2 and email on desktop 3. That would avoid competition for desktop real estate and you could quickly switch to the right desktop to place a trade and then go back to the charts to manage the trade.

That's useful, but I use a feature that adds commands to windows to roll up windows to the title bar, so that only the title bar shows on the screen. This will be easier to understand by looking at the following screen shots.

Here I have some charts at the top in the rolled up state, so only the title bar is visible. They are reference charts that I look at occasionally. I have Dexpot set up to roll down or roll up the window when I click on the title bar with the mouse wheel button.

So, I can view or hide the main window of each chart with one mouse click and that helps to make better use of the screen. This has been compatible with NT7 in my experience and I have not noticed any problems so far.

In this screen shot one of the windows from the top has been rolled down for a quick peek.

If you have two monitors you may want to keep one desktop fixed and to change the content of the second monitor when you switch desktop.

My left hand side (LHS) monitor has the short term charts and the longer term charts are on the RHS (right). You could have your order entry screen on the right on a virtual desktop, but there is no benefit in watching that screen all of the time. Conversely, when you want to place an order it is not necessary to view the long term charts.

To place an order, switch to the third virtual desktop. I use the keyboard command ALT+N (next desktop) and with three virtual desktops pressing ALT-N once more returns me to the charts.

The red line in the screen shots shows the gap between my dual monitors.

Dual Screen set up - Monitor 1 & 2 showing the chart desktops

Press ALT-N to switch to a virtual desktop on monitor 2 (RHS) Brokers screen not shown

The attachments have a mistake in the last post. The last one should have been the one below.

I also use dexpot heavily, because I can mix charts from several different applications (ninjatrader, multicharts, my own stuff) in my workspaces.

Before using dexpot, I considered to upgrade to a 8 monitors solution. My dexpot workspaces helped my out: 4 screens are enough.

Here are the settings I use to roll up Windows by clicking the title bar with the middle mouse button or with the keyboard command ALT-R.

Medias...

How do you use dexpot "workspaces" to drop your monitors use from 8 to just 4?? That is excellent. You basically slashed your use in half!

Does Ninja have any kind of problems with that??

Thanks!
