The Walt Disney Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

* SPOILER * (just one of the biggest spoilers in film history in the first 20 seconds)

Remember back then Lucas said there was a treatment for Ep.7-9 then there wasn't, then there it was again?
Makes sense how he mentions "Star Wars for the next hundred years". The Hobbit book was published in 1936. over 75 years ago. Some of the old comics like Superman also. Lucas gets a great deal selling the rights and his companies. Far better than the Tolkien estate got when they sold the LOTR rights to United Artists and Saul Zaentz for the single "rotoscope" 1970's LOTR movie which flopped. Then they got practically a pittance from the success of New Line & Peter Jackson's LOTR movies. (Jackson got over $250 million paid to him from New Line). Anyways I am pumped for Ep. VII, VIII and IX !

No argument with the thesis or videos posted mainly because I'm a Trekkie, not a Star Wars fan

Makes me small screen, not big screen.

Massive corporations dominate the U.S. media landscape. Through a history of mergers and acquisitions, these companies have concentrated their control over what we see, hear and read. In many cases, these companies are vertically integrated, controlling everything from initial production to final distribution. In the interactive charts below we reveal who owns what.

"4. Most Of The Original Star Wars Cast Will Return – We think Michael Arndt was hired to write the Star Wars Episode 7 script for a reason. With Toy Story 3, Michael Arndt wrote a script that played on the nostalgic feeling of saying goodbye to old friends (toys). We predict that is what Disney is looking for in Star Wars Episode 7. They want to bring the old cast back one more time, because they know millions of people have nostalgic feelings for the old cast. All the main cast members like Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher will sign on to return."

This is just my gossipy take on why Harrison Ford distanced himself from SW and sci-fi for so many years.
SW and the sequels were a big hit, but Hamil was still designated as the main star. Years later the Solo character is probably more popular than Luke in the OT in the DVD/blue-ray/post prequel audiences. 'Blade Runner' tanked at the B.O. so it wasn't a big game changer as SW yet it's still voted near or at the top of favorite sci-fi movies lists and it's continually rediscovered on DVD/blue-ray or occasionally shown on a special playing in theaters. Anyways the Solo and Deckard roles are decent complex imaginatively drawn sci-fi characters and Ford fits extremely well in those roles, practically irreplaceable. I still like them more than Ford's roles in the Indiana Jones films, 'Witness','Frantic',etc. or the gun-toting president in 'Air Force One'. 'The Fugitive' was fine, but we already had the original 50's series and it's final episode. And Tommy Lee Jones was the show stealer like Barry Morse in the original show.
