Most individual retail traders seem to use NinjaTrader, MultiCharts, TradeStation, or Amibroker.
NinjaScript development environment is pretty enjoyable to use. Its free. Available data is free. Hard to beat that. I have no experience with the others.
NinjaTrader is hard to beat. C# lets you do anything you want, the issue is just how good a programmer you are, and how complex you need things to be. They also have the biggest community support, next to perhaps TradeStation.
I donīt it use for hundred names personally, but if you have a look at their forum, there seem to be a few users using it for a lot stocks e.g. SP500 baskets etc. ...
