Depends who you ask.

Most individual retail traders seem to use NinjaTrader, MultiCharts, TradeStation, or Amibroker.

NinjaScript development environment is pretty enjoyable to use. Its free. Available data is free. Hard to beat that. I have no experience with the others.

Choose what works best for you.

NinjaTrader is hard to beat. C# lets you do anything you want, the issue is just how good a programmer you are, and how complex you need things to be. They also have the biggest community support, next to perhaps TradeStation.

What is currently regarded as the best platform for AlgoTrading?

It depends on your algos , your programming skills and the time your are willing to invest.

EOD and Intraday Algos, easy programming: Multicharts

EOD and Intraday Algos, more programming: NinjaTrader

High Frequency Algos, much more programming: SmartQuant / OpenQuant

HFT < 2 milliseconds : C++, create your own.

HFT measured in nanoseconds : Linux, FPGA.

I prefer and use Multicharts and Openquant.

Can you automate a portfolio with few hundreds names in OpenQuant ?

No HFT, just intraday, no backtest needed, just automation.

Thanks.

I donīt it use for hundred names personally, but if you have a look at their forum, there seem to be a few users using it for a lot stocks e.g. SP500 baskets etc. ...

Or just ask Anton Fokin, the SmartQuant founder directly.
