I just filed my income tax with IRS, after filing, just out of curiosity, I started to check my statements against my tax report sent by my broker, to my surprise, it's lower than the amount filed by my broker, so I started to check other years, and ALL of my reported taxes contain errors (lower taxes than reported on my monthly statements, some years, it was 4 times LOWER). Has anyone had problems with dividend taxes reported/filed by your broker?
Here's my legal status:
- non resident alien
- as non resident alien, I don't have any employment income, just dividends and interests
I've sent complaint to my broker, but they said that they will TRY to adjust the discrepancies for 2011, but for earlier years (2008 onward), they won't adjust. Can someone explain to me:
- what can I do to fix the problem beside talking to my broker?
- is there any other place/organization which deals with this kind of problem?
- has any one else had similar problem and care to share your experience/advises?
