Hey all...not sure what to call what I want to accomplish? Or if it is even possible...
Basically I want to be able to mirror my desktop PC on my laptop so at end of day or evening I can work from laptop on the couch to check email, log into trading apps, charts etc, and it be the same system so whatever work I do on laptop will be updated on the desktop for the next day and vice versa...
I was researching using Dropbox or SugarSync for keeping everything sync'd up like NT7 and MC8 so that seems possible from what I read just need to have same versions installed...32 or 64bit etc...and just log out prior to moving to laptop and then back to desktop....but how about Outlook? will that work the same?
It seems like the Cloud could become a virtual server?
Any other ideas or suggestions?

Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
Does your mail provider provide IMAP service (vs POP) with enough disk space? This will enable you to store all your emails on the server vs individual PCs. You can try this out by configuring Outlook for IMAP and setting it to leave emails on the server. All your past emails will only be available on the machine which you had previously setup for POP service. Make sure you configure all your machines for IMAP.
In theory you could install your trading apps on multiple machines, but you would need to export any reports to a shared drive or copy them between machines. Unfortunately you may need to purchase multiple copies of your trading apps.
An alternative to installing your trading apps on multiple machines is to use Remote Desktop to connect to your primary trading machine over the local network or internet. This should work well locally but it may be a little laggy over the internet due to latency or bandwidth issues.
Except for option #2, all the above is easy to setup. Just do a quick Google search and you'll find a HOWTO.

But the simplest solution, if both desktop and laptop are running on windows is to use remote desktop and connect to the desktop from your laptop.
Other than having to turn on both computers at the same time, you won't notice that you are working remotely especially in full screen mode.
Successful people will do what unsuccessful people won't or can't do!
