Trades of Our Lives: A Market Melodrama. (insert cheesy theme music) 
As one of my first posts, I want to start out with a brief intro of myself and how I ended up here on futures.io (formerly BMT). I have always been fascinated with the markets, and I remember when I was young thinking "investing" is what smart people did. A few wealthy people I looked up to were in the markets, so it seemed logical that this is something that I should be doing if I wanted to become wealthy as well. So... a long time ago, in a galaxy far... far away... along with working my full time job I decided to open up my Scottrade account and attempt to trade stocks. Frankly I didn't know what the hell I was doing, just sort of "going through the motions" of buying and selling -breaking even more or less, but I thought I was doing well... and besides it was an ego boost feeling superior at parties when I would discuss trading with people who were even more clueless about the markets than I.
Soon I determined that working 60 hours a week at my job and trying to trade just wasn't working out, there just wasn't enough time in the day. I was burning out and making mistakes. Not to mention the Ex started becoming "more and more ahem... 'unhappy' ". So I stopped trading and looked for more passive investments that wouldn't require such an active role. Eventually I was approached with a business investment opportunity: the business failed. Finally I decided to leave renting behind and buy a home for us, as it seemed that was a good way to increase wealth and not "piss money away renting". Guess how well that worked out for me? She left soon thereafter.
From frying pans to the fires, my failures and poor decisions only fueled my obsession with learning "what the hell happened?", "what did I not know at the time I made the decision?". My experience is that it is what you don't know you don't know... that sneaks up from the depths to destroy you.
With that, I decided that the very best investment I could ever make, would be in myself and my education about the markets. With the economic down turn and the job markets becoming increasingly unstable, I watched some old friends of mine who have been with companies 10-20 years get laid off and forced to start over. I thought again to myself... how great would it be to invest in a skill of making money with money. Who knows, one day it could be me who is forced to start over, and investing in that skill today might make all the difference tomorrow.
So one night while reading about trading, I came across a screen shot of Meta Trader and a Moving Average cross. And I started thinking what is this? I had been used to entering orders online or calling up my broker. What were Japanese candlesticks? As I peered at the entrance to the rabbit hole, I still remember the first thought I had after seeing the Moving Average cross. "Geezes... that's it? Clearly that is a buy signal... (scoff) ... seriously how hard can this really be then." 
And so my journey down the rabbit hole commenced...
