I have often found that teaching someone something is a good way to follow make sure you understand a complex principle, it will also expose any knowledge gap you may have and if your honest with yourself you learn a lot form teaching.

I will try to have a nice life and hope you do like wise. You like the four hour work week? Also I am not sure why we are to "man the life boats"?

This isn't my place, I'm just a visitor but I think you'll find out quickly that it's a pretty tight run ship and I've never heard of the book or whatever is being peddled there but I certainly didn't pull it out of thin air right?

If I find out that the ship is run in a tight fashion how is that going to affect me? I do not know where you pulled it from, you may enlighten me.

This is true.

However, top performers are rarely good teachers, and the best teachers mostly have not been top performers.

Have you any thought of your own on this matter as your chat seems to mainly consist of over heard drivel. I cant imagine you have ever been a top performer and your idea that top performers have rarely been good teacher is not true if you ever have the privileged to meet a real expert they enthuse about their choose field and their passion inspires others around them making them great teachers.

I think in life is it good always to have a mentor and a student. It keeps you humble.

I find your idea about top performers not being good teachers a huge generalization and maybe right for teaching in terms of school education but in the broader sense to be the best you need a depth of knowledge which can only be achieved by an obsessive quest. I find most people who have reached the top are normally more than happy to "give something back "

Maybe your attitudes are simply not conducive to become the best but your more intent on being mysterious which you are. Well done.

I agree completely that teaching is a great way to confirm (and improve) your own understanding. This doesn't mean you need to go out and teach a course to a room full of students. It just means that by vocally describing a concept and making sure that the person you're talking to understands it, that in turn ensures that you truly understand what you're talking about.

As per Albert Einstein:
Quoting
If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough

For example if I try to explain a certain trading concept to my wife and I see a look of confusion on her face and her eye's glazing over, it is clear she doesn't understand and that is not her fault, it is mine. Once i've explained it clearly enough for her to understand, there is no doubt that I too understand the concept. This is because I now understand the concept from my perspective as well as from the prespective of someone else.

@kerrmac, you're post shows you're not reading long enough these forums to know that FatTails is one of the most knowledge members here on futures.io (formerly BMT). In that light, I think your post is overly aggressive and attacking, and I think you'd better edit it to something less offensive.

Btw, if you criticize FatTails for making an "old and tried" argument, then I'd suggest you provide more argumentation for your first post in this thread, since you're also referring to "overheard drivel":
