what is the most reliable version of internet for tradings; essentially up-time.
I live in the Bronx, NY and only seem to have access to optimum online which sucks balls.
should I be looking at going to a business account? T1? other options? Seems I cant get verizon fios which would have been fiber optic.

Have a wireless backup or put something in the cloud. You may not be able to access it in the cloud if your down. But it you do automated trading it will still be online.
Most reliable is to get a remote server in a data center. The good ones have multiple fast redundant connections to internet and are located close to exchanges.

You connect to remote server from your computer via internet. But if you have a remote system manage your trades via AT then your personal connection is not as critical. I had my home internet connection go down today but did not have to worry because my remote system just kept on ticking. If a remote system is not an option for you I would suggest getting two different internet connections to your home from different providers with a dual wan router. This will not help you with ping times but gives you some redundancy. If one goes down it will roll to the other. However, if you have a power failure won't help you much.

I have DSL and cable connected to a dual broadband router with everything on battery backup. If one of the internet services failed, the router would automatically rollover to the other connection and I wouldn't lose internet connection... however .... Ninja Trader would lose connection and I would have to go through the whole trying to re-connect scenario.
There are times when Ninja Trader will lose connection and both internet services are still up.
Bottom line is... if you use Ninja Trader across the internet for discretionary trading... at some point... in spite of the best preparations ... you will lose connection.

I had same issue with Dual WAN when NT would go down and roll to other connection. When it rolls and has to get new IP NT does not handle very well.
I think that highlights the importance of using stops that sit at exchange whether auto or discretionary. That way if things go down while in a trade you at least know you have a stop out there that will take you out of the market.
