While not directly related to trading, I just ran across this site:
XMind - Social Brainstorming and Mind Mapping

Wikipedia defines Mind Mapping as:

Wikipedia
A mind map is a diagram used to represent words, ideas, tasks, or other items linked to and arranged around a central key word or idea. Mind maps are used to generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid in study, organization, problem solving, decision making, and writing.

The elements of a given mind map are arranged intuitively according to the importance of the concepts, and are classified into groupings, branches, or areas, with the goal of representing semantic or other connections between portions of information. Mind maps may also aid recall of existing memories.

I wonder if you could use this to set trading oriented goals and concepts. Hmm.

Here is just one example of a map:

The software is free, it's open source.

Good stuff mike !
this is a very good methodology for learning + organizing complex things --
i worked a lot with MindMapping with the kids to learn their schoolstuff.

i also used it for trading-topics - iE to bring down a new Setup / idea where i have to watch multiple things ..... it helps me to bring it into my brain when its new - after some days working with such sheets its printed in your mind.

i used to draw some kind of trees with iE 4 beginning arm like :

long range
long trend
short range
short trend

example :
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/de/8/82/Mindmap.jpg

and go on with diff stuff that can happen on the way -- with advices what to do then.
check this - do that -- take care of this etc.

for some kind of folks this is very helpful, for others its no solution .

dauhter loved it -- took off with it in learning-case
son hated it from the first view on it - lol

so its worth to test + play with for shure !

or it is the solution.

for example:
if 4 hour is range and
if 1 hour is range and
if 30 minutes is long then
long range;

best regards to all mind freaks

Causality is the relationship between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect), where the second event is a consequence of the first.

wh,
i tried quick+dirty to picture an example in the screenshot ...... hope you get it guys !

you try to build all your trading-rules + decisions in such logical chains + trees.

the goal is to have a map with advices what to do for every situation of your trading.
like you tell someone a story - step by step with lots of options on the way where the story can change direction.

it is to clear your tradingplan + to have always an overview - once written down you can just look at the map -- where i am at the moment -- and you see wich options you have on this point or wich things you have to take care for.

so you cant lose the idea of what to do now if this or that happens.
if a new/diff situiation comes one day, you add it somehow into the mindmap.
so it can grow.

it is for learning, clearing + training all this + one day you dont need it anymore cause it went into your deeper mind (hardcoded then ) or you just have it as a help if you lose your focus, the sheet is lying beside your desk + gives you confidence.

my example is just a basic one - with words only.
the real MindMap freaks start also to ad small drawings at lots of places to give a visual idea of the meaning at this point -- this goes into the deeper brainareas much faster (its known a trick of mind-game+maths-wizard to use pictures+symbols for card+number-games/tricks)

coloring the whole thing is also very helpful

have a look here how diff + fantastic+ grazy this could be done

This entire topic is new to me. Unless I skipped school during this, this stuff wasn't taught to me when I was in school and since I have no kids I've not been shown this stuff if they are teaching it these days.

This image in particular is just fantastic. I look forward to working on this (with your help!)

well - it depends on the teachers - if they are open minded enaugh to teach such "learning-help-tools" or not.

its also used as help to find solutions + ideas for complex topics while working in workgroups iE or to create visions wich way a special project (futures.io (formerly BMT) or so ) can or should develope ..... what can happen at this ot that point .....

you can visualize complex networks + even your whole live incl your future with this stuff

Thanks wh for the link!

One more thing about MindMapping that brings you a real benefit, no matter on which topic - trading or something else - you work on :

while making+creating such a MindMap you work really intensively on how it looks + how all the subjects go in interaction + you think a lot about all this stuff -- hours or days -- maybe more. and you think about it not in the same way you normaly think about these things, you start to think about it in another way - you think about how to arrange it in the big picture, how to color it , find wrong ideas + overthink lots of that is maybe not really useful + too much for your picture.

so this is very intensivly working on your stuff with not only using your the "normal+usual" Thoughts like "do i go long here cause CCi is hooking or not or what do i do else or ---- blablabla"
So you spend a lot of time with it in a way you didnt do that before -- and the whole stuff goes deeper in your mind step by step.

iE when my daughter makes a MindMaps for her school-stuff - if she has to do a presentation for example - she works 2 long days on such a MindMap as a map, a help-guide with all needed infos through her 1 hour lecture in front of the class -- and you know what :

she dont need the mindmap anymore during her speech !! - lol

the whole stuff flows out of her freely -- it is worked out perfectly while creating the mindmap at home and she is able to refer about it absolutly free - maybe throwing a look at the mindmap at the end for checking if she hasnt lost a point !

That was a point where i realized how powerful Mindmapping can be !

after these 2 days workin on the mindmap the whole stuff she has to learn and has put into a speech - that brings in the things deep in your brain.

While creating a mindmap you work on your special topic from a point of view you didnt had before!
you connect it with different thoughts + categorys if you do drawings on it or if you color the things -- > you work on it with other chapters / parts
of your brain so to say !

This means >>> you use much more brainpotential / resources then ususaly

and that is what brings a you benefit you couldnt get in an other way !

not the pictures or the colors or what ever -- but the working on it with mobilizing all potentials you have and not only the poor 20% we are used to to use !

well - you may call me crazy - i love it

Hi all,
I have been a Mind Map user for years. In my corporate role (I'm now semi retired) I would use them to help with meetings, brainstorming sessions and note taking. Often I would use the note taking maps to brief management and staff. Very powerful and easy to use once you have some practice. I now use them to map books that I want to understand better. Attached is a sample.

My software of choice is Mindjet Mind Manager. This is commercial software but is worth a look as it integrates well with Office applications.
