These are the trades I made on the CL today. Sim of course. I continue to do the same thing over and over again. Going long, way before it's ready, and more importantly way way before I got anything that looks close to a signal.
I feel so stupid, I've been sitting in front of the computer here for a long time. The only thing that stops me from being a profitable trader is me.
I know it when I do it, when I do what's "wrong". It's almost like a knee jerk reaction, that I seem to have no control of. I put up that awesome indicator their in the left picture, that colors all the candles in accordance to support and resistance, and I just ignore it.....just whatever...here I go pulling the trigger...
I feel so stupid that I can't get over this total lack of discipline.
Have you started a journal? It has helped me start to identify what my "triggers" are. What causes you to start trading against or without your signals? Is it fear or missing out? Anxiety? Boredom? Revenge Trading? Once you can figure out what is triggering you to make bad trades you can start to fix it.
Yeah, definitely seems like an overtrading problem, needing to be in a trade it seems.
Just a thought, you are trading in a sim.. in the back of your mind you most likely are not taking it seriously enough and that leads to taking trades just for the hell of it.
As above poster said, definitely re-evalute your plan and set your trading methodology in stone.
I agree with what the others have said especially the part about trading sim and not taking it seriously....
If the trades you take after the bad ones work out then you you know at least you could make money.
The point is if you at least have the ability to identify the good trades you should try going live because it will force you to be very serious and not play around....but the caveat here is that CL is nutso and very bad for beginners so maybe you should try out the YM or NQ for a while until you become confident and proficient.
What part of Dallas are you in? I am in the Denton/Corinth area. Survive the tornadoes today without issue?
I know the feeling you are describing, and like others have said here, it is important for you to create a journal and track all of the various statistics that go along with your setup and trades.
How long have you been watching the CL?
Have you been using the same chart, indicators, time frame, etc?
Do you have any journal or records kept thus far?
Do you have a "favorite" setup for the CL that you find highly probable?
We can start there, and then move on once we all have more information on you and your setup.
Of course, there are a ton of great threads on this site which can help you in any number of ways, but your post here is a good move in the right direction.

As consistently profitable traders.. "We get paid to wait, and we wait to get paid."
At least you were not live and now laying in a fetal position in a corner. Realize what you have done and feel is typical and normal. Most here who later became successful have done much worse. Even disciplined personalities can suffer the same fate. Part of your learning process will be learning how to deal with what you describe and you can train yourself to follow your plan. There is hope but the road is not easy.
"The day I became a winning trader was the day it became boring. Daily losses no longer bother me and daily wins no longer excited me. Took years of pain and busting a few accounts before finally got my mind right. I survived the darkness within and now just chillax and let my black box do the work."
Thank you for everyone who has responded I do appreciate it.
I've watched the cl for a long time now, my trading plan is pretty solid. That's funny saying that huh...But I do believe it's a problem of just not taking it seriously enough. The prior day on the CL I would of killed it. If that was not a "Trend DAY" with very little to hardly no rotation, I dont know what is. So I think somewhere in the back of my mind today I was like well let's see if I can " get away with this, as insane as that sounds.
I think I will get that book, thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you all who responded, everyone said basically the same thing, which is what I "thought". But when your in your own "thoughts" you can never be to sure until you get someone elses point of view.
I feel better knowing this is a "real problem" others have had, and I'm not crazy.
Thanks
And I live in Irving and I did escape the tornados, glad you did to.
