Hi, I recently opened a brokerage account with Tradestation so I can use the platform. I've been using Thinkorswim Thinkdesktop for the last few years. I only trade the S&P500 emini. At the moment, I am only using a simulated account with Tradestation so I can get more comfortable with the platform. I noticed something strange with Tradestation and I am hoping other users can answer this question.
I noticed that whenever I place a market order in tradestation using the matrix, it takes a lot longer to fill than when I do it on the thinkdesktop. If I want to close out my trade, it will just sit there for a lot more than a few seconds before it will execute. If I try to change an order by dragging the order up or down, it takes 5 or 6 seconds or maybe more before the new order will show up on the matrix. Is that normal? When I use thinkorswim, the market order will execute almost instantly (I only trade 5-10 contracts at a time) and if I change my order, it will happen almost immediately. Is there a setting in Tradestation that I need to modify?
I'm in San Antonio. Today I got stopped out of 100 shares of AAPL twice. Once I got filled with only 40 shares and the next time I only filled for 2 shares. These were STOP MARKET orders with a stock that averages 21 million shares daily. In any case, the Market Maker should take me out if nothing else. I suspect the problem is in TS's trade server. I occasionally get this kind of garbage.
P.S. I was trading 100 shares. Of course, stocks are not be on the same server as futures.
This has happened to me when sim trading ES and EC on TradeStation. I've also had this problem on sim trading ES on ThinkDesktop back when I used to use it. This seems to occur more often when the market is very active, but when trading live, this never happens. I feel your pain tho. It's very annoying when sim trading waiting for a market order to fill. As to why, I don't know. Sorry I could not be of much help in resolving this.
Regards,
-C

i have been using the matrix live for the past 2 wks and haven't had *that* problem. but i sure as h have had alot of others. 1) stop would n't drag. just frozen there. 2) price just moved on past stop like it wasn't there - but i think that was my fault as it was a stop limit order on an option priced in nickels, with only 10c as the limit offset - dumb. WORST of all: 3) with 38 sec to the close, on a scalp *well* in the green dragged limit profittaker to close out trade and got "order cannot be routed" message. this is LIVE mind you. next day, stock gaps down, profits turn to losses - *then* i don't know if it was the software or me being freaked out, as the option opened -58%, but instead of closing out i *doubled* my position by mistake. then i really *was* freaked out because i didn't see my mistake right away by which time price had dropped all the way down close to the next support level. and end result = 100% loss. i am so upset. i have been on the phone to tech support and posting on the ts forums and alot of people seem to say Norton running in the background can cause problems even if u have configured it with TS tech support. i am just about to post another thread here to see what is the optimal windows setup to run tradestation software but be warned - you can get *seriously* burned if your software messes up! i would post in the tradestation forums, too.

Thank you for the replies. I have been trading live with Tradestation and I haven't had an execution problem yet. I did notice the same issue as Maisie when dragging my orders. Sometimes it will take more than a few of seconds to show up. On TOS, it will show up pretty much immediately. I don't think it is my computer or my broadband connection but I think I can live with it. Thanks again.
I have same problem with my platform. I trade options though but when I place an order it wont execute right away. I probably gonna use thinkorswim from now on
