Range based bars are built differently to tick bars. Think about the following scenario:
400tick chart and 20 range both ES. the 400 tick will generate many bars and the 20 range only very few.
now we take 400 tick on cl and a 5 range when cl moves fast you have lots of range bars with few tick bars as it moves far with few ticks. But when it stalls you often have many ticks and a narrow range thus less range bars....

the next question should be, which chart do you follow the trend line on?

tick or minute chart

so if i wanted to follow the tick/minute chart does that mean that the initial drawing should be made on a tick or minute chart? or is it ok to draw on range charts, but follow on tick/minute charts?
