Requesting some feedback on Onenote.
- I currently have Vista and 2 - 40GB SSD (Solid State Drives) and a large Network drive
- I am going to upgrade from MS Office 2002 to 2010 - which includes Onenote
- currently I have lots of reference material stored on a Network drive in Word, bitmap, Excel, pdf
- because I use SSD for my C-drive I do not use indexing (ruins your SSD drives)
- this is more or less working for me but I like the features of OneNote (copy and index images, quick searches)

my concerns
1- the only logical place to store this reference material is on the C-drive which are SSD drives and I only have about 50 GB (66%) of free space left. Currently my reference material takes up 6GB but I can see me filling up this space quickly with bitmap images and my SSD drives no longer having any room to work. I think the recommended free space on an SSD drive is about 50%
2- I could revert back to normal HDD but the SSD drives cut my backup time from about 2 hours to 5 minutes.
3- I could purchase 2 more SSD drives - have to be same make and size as original as I have them in RAID0 format
4- currently I do not do many searches on this material (I have google search installed on a more normal computer that indexes the Network drive) - but if I had it in Onenote on my SSD drives I might find searching much more useful.
5-I like the Onenote ability to copy bitmap images into the Notebook and make the text content searchable. Without OneNote quick search enabled, perhaps this would not be as quick as I would like.
6-I see some Excel spreadsheets for tracking your trades available on futures.io (formerly BMT) and commercially, would these Excel spreadsheet be able to be input to OneNote - looks like ONeNote has its own version of Spreadsheets and does not use Excel
7-I would probably keep bitmap images of charts, that I have marked up with trades and comments, I would hope that these would be searchable by Onenote. - OneNote may only be able to read text that is black, or is horizontal etc.
8.-I posted this on microsoft Onenote forum - maybe that is a more appropriate place for this

I use OneNote as well. I have similar setup. Just change your save location under options --> save backup to another drive. I use a very slow terabyte drive and it works just fine.

thank you for the reply, I am not sure what you have suggested.
1. I was suggesting having OneNote on C drive and saving my data there, which would be my default.
2. I was concerned that not being able to use ONeNote quick search would mean that my searches would be slow even with SSD drive
3. I was interested if Excel spreadsheets would work inside of OneNote or they would be read only? Perhaps I will have to set up a copy job to copy excel spread sheeets inside of Onenote on a weekly basis
4. I was concerned if I store trade charts inside Onenote and my comments are at an angle, onenote would not be able to search them. I suppose this is fixed by always adding comments aligned horizontally
5. Since Onenote saves images copied as jpg, my SSD drive would fill up pretty quickly.
6. in general, how do you like onenote for your reference material? At the moment, I cut and paste anything I want to keep into a Word doc and file these. I do not search them as I have a pretty good filing system.
