There are several ways but the one I use is to put the indicator below in on your chart.
Then change the name in the LABEL box to the name of the template.
This will put the name in the upper left corner of the chart.

You can't really "check a setting" in NT and find out what template is applied that I'm away of. If you don't know and you know what template you want to be applied to your chart and you know u have the template built already. Right click > template > apply your template.
If you always what to have that template applied to a chart when you open up a new chart. Open up a new chart > set you chart settings up > apply the template you want > right click on the chart setting on the right > click "set as default
I haven't found a way to determine which template I have loaded, so I decided awhile back (got this idea from another member) to use Constant Lines (Ninja built-in indicator)
Apply Constant Lines to the chart, then click in the field of the indicator preferences panel where the name "Constant Lines" is shown and change it's name to something else (My Template 01 or whatever you want to call it). Hit Apply.
Constant Lines will not draw on your chart if all the settings are set to '0'.
Now that you've renamed the Constant Lines indicator on your chart, to whatever name you want to give your template, Save the template (as the same name you've chosen by renaming Constant Lines) and it will be added to your list of chart templates.
In the future, you can simply load whatever chart template you want, and its name will appear in the upper left-hand corner of your screen.
In this example, I've named mine CobraSimpleTrend6Ev13 (upper left corner).
You can also, if you choose, BLANK OUT the name of all the indicators on your template by using this same method, to make your chart look a little cleaner.
After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!

Something so simple, but it's been a real help since having it..
This is a great idea but I already have six indicators on my chart with custom settings and in order for this to work, the Constant Lines indicator must be the first indicator (else it falls off the right-hand edge of the screen). How do I "insert" the Constant Lines indicator as the first indicator on the list?
Use the "Aname" indicator (attached). Just import it & then open a chart and apply Aname. In the indicator preferences panel, you can change "Aname" to any chart name you want to give it. The name will appear in the upper left corner of your chart.

Thanks, but I believe the Panel 1 indies appear across the top of the chart in the order they appear in the Indie window, so if Aname is not the first one you add, it will still possibly fall off the right-hand edge. Test this by adding AaIchimokuNT7 to our chart, and you'll see that Aname is no longer the first one in the upper-left. So my problem still persists.
The way I solved this, since I did not feel like rebuilding all my templates from scratch, was simply to edit the xml file that held the workspace code, and move the Aname code (or in my case, the Constant Lines code) to the top of the Indicator section. You just have to be sure to include the <Indicatornn> and </Indicatornn> tags, and insert the code right after the <Indicators> tag. During the move process, I can also change the Indie name to the template name. Then just open the workspace, open the template, resave the template and VOILA! it's done.
Better yet, edit the TEMPLATE instead of the chart. The indie can be moved and given the template name just as above (change it in the <Name> tag), then whenever you load that template, you get the name in the upper-left.
Next logical question: where is a given template used? Here's how to find out:
Copy the template name to the clipboard
Open up the Workspaces folder in Win Explorer
Paste the template name in the Search box
You get a where-used list for that template.
NT8 allows us to move the indies up and down in the Indie dialog, but I won't be there for a while.
