I am looking for an NT7 indictor to colour price bars by period, for example all price bars for today are blue, all price bars for yesterday are grey. The two colours would alternate based on historical intraday data. I have attached, a screen shot from a different trading platform to help explain what i mean. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is pretty easy to achieve.

NinjaTrader 7 has a session manager, which allows you define the trading day. Best you use an appropriate template for each instrument. What you need to do:

-> Make sure that the appropriate session template has been defined
-> Attach this session template to the instrument via the instrument manager
-> Use all charts with <instrument settings>

This is important, because a trading day for ES would start at 3:30 PM Central Time (or 5:00 PM Central Time on Sunday evening) and end at 3:15 PM Central Time. A trading day for CL would start at 6:00 PM EST and end at 5:15 PM EST.

Once you have done this you can use the indicator attached, which will plot the bars in a different color for each day of the week.

Fat,

Is it OK if I set my session template to 24/7 for Euro (6E) ? Have a look at my attached screenshot.

@ Smcsorley seems to be requesting for an alternating two colors NOT five colors. Could you tweak the indicator to do just two colors ?

I do not think that 24/7 is an appropriate setting. The FOREX markets close at 5:00 PM New York time. If you set it to 24/7 your session break will be at midnight EST, which is towards the end of the Tokyo session.

That does not make sense at all.

For 6E you should use the market hours as specified by CME. 6E closes at 4:00 PM Central Time (which is the same as 5:00 PM EST). So if even CME follows the New York FOREX close, why would you select your market break 7 hours later?

Is this suggestion just for the purpose of this DailyColorBar indicator ?

I've been trading only 6E all this while and I set my session template to 24/7 for my trading session; is this not appropriate too ?

PS: I edited my last post a few minutes after I posted it and as regard two colors request by the OP instead of five colors that you have in the DailyColorBar indicator.

Yes, the indicator can be easily modified to display two colors. It is just an example. But it is midnight here, so I will stop for today.

Hey Fat, I thought we're in the same Time Zone (GMT +1); it's one hour to midnight here; maybe 'cos I have the same Time Zone with London at this time of the year; have a good night and sleep well.

I guess that you don't have daylight savings time, as this is not required near the equator. Or maybe you have permanent summer time.

Thanks for your work on the indicator Fat Tails. When you get some time, could you do a 2 colour version, i would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for your prompt response.
