I just installed Win7 64 bit on a spare partition to see how it would work.

I currently use XP 32 bit with basic dual core setup.

After installation - which was surprisingly easy - installed Ninja 6.5 but was unable to get it to run. Tried installing the Net 2 but it wouldn't take in 64 bit situation.

Does anyone know if you can run 6.5 on 64 bit and/or Win7 or am I trying to do something that can't be done?

Have asked on Ninja forum but it's Sunday. If I get good reply there will post it in this thread since I suspect this issue will be coming up with Win7 being out and with it, supposedly, being a good OS from Windows for a change.

Win 3.1 was good. 95 a killer. 98 SE was fine. NT4 the best they ever did. 2000 got there, but XP SP2 was great. After that.... but apparently W7 is good.

For me, though, if I can't run Ninja properly on it I'll hold off.

Any tips/tricks/secrets much appreciated.

( one amusing side-effect: even though it clearly isn't the case, Win7 says my crappy dialup connection is getting 123 kps whereas in fact it's slightly less than 28.)

NinjaTrader 6.5 works fine with Vista x64 and Seven x64.

Does your machine have 4GB of memory or more?

You'll need to be more specific with the exact error messages and reasons it didn't work.

4 GB memory.
6.5 installed fine but didn't run.
Then I tried to install Net. 2.x (the one I use now) and it said it was not 64 compatible.
So I installed the Net 3.x version a friend gave me (latest 2 weeks ago) and that installed. NT still doesn't work. Then I tried Net 2.x again. No go for same reason.

Sorry can't give precise error msgs now, am back in XP on main HD. I also tried to install TS2000i on Win7 and it wouldn't take so I can tell that migrating to 64 bit is more than I thought.

Unfortunately, although I use computer alot (too much), I am like the guy who likes to drive Porsches but doesn't really know what a spark plug is or does. When I got my first computer (Macintosh) in 1985, was already long out of university so I never really learned what a computer was from the ground up nor learned any fundamental aspects of programming languages apart from (with much trial and error) gradually getting competent in Tradestation.

NT 6.5 runs on win7 64 bit without a glitch. You don't have to install any .NET since win7 already comes with 3.5

There is no problem with 64 bit.

I imagine the problem started by doing something .NET you shouldn't have, if I had to guess. When you get the actual error message we'll know more.

BTW, there will not be a big advantage to running x64 with 4GB of memory. It's borderline, you'll see an extra 512MB or so for apps.

Thxs for input. I wanted to move over to 64 because NT7 seems to take advantage of it - so they say. But then I now recall that some of you are rejecting NT7. Does that mean that if you buy, say, the lifetime 6.5 license, that means you can just keep with that and it doesn't include updates for NT7 which is like a different program?

Right now, I just write a few indicators - and will probabl be finished with it soon - but notice the RAM going way down from 2400 free to 1000 free in a few runs (1-2 hours of compiling, reloading charts etc.) and the pagefile going up to 1.5 GIG and then at some point it stops. I thought x 64 would take care of it.

Btw, I never got Ninja to load. No msgs. Just doesn't load. I also never uninstalled and reinstalled. Instead, because my computer buddy decided that W7 was no good, have gone back to Plan A which was XP 64 which I preferred in the first place. (nice to have an official windows developer as next door neighbour who can let me try out all sorts of things)

But also: if I do switch to 64, then at some point I can get different board and ramp up the memory, whereas in 32, 4 Gigs is it, right?

I loaded Ninja in 64 XP and the charts definitely came up more than twice as fast. There is the issue of computational power in 64 bit, not just Ram. Also potentially far less leaks.
