How to stop your teenager from texting while driving

What do you think is the best way to stop your teenager from texting while driving? I swear, he can't even walk around the house without bumping into stuff. Dreading the call when he runs over someone one day. Should I just disable his data plan and cancel the SMS plan? Do you think technology solutions like Cellcontrol | Technology to Stop Distracted Driving | Home can help? Am I just being paranoid?

As a teenager myself, I think the best thing would be for you to sit down with your son and have a talk with him about the dangers of driving while distracted. The whole take away the SMS would be a huge problem i'm betting.

Tell him that you'll take away his driving privelages for a year if you catch him texting while driving.

Mean it.

Check on it. (like when you know he's been driving, check his phone).

All of this is for nothing if you haven't established yourself as a parent who means what they say.

Additionally, you could do a ton of research and try to get examples (video, real people, etc) who've had kids who've been in accidents and hurt because of being distracted by driving.

Who is paying for the phone, and all the texting. If you are a very simple solution comes to mind.
