It's time to upgrade my Intel Core duo for a quad or what? Who has ideas of what to buy and from whom?

Here is an alternative. Click on view current price list than look for Workstations or high performance desktops.

It paid for me to let my local independent computer store build a trading computer for me . It wasnt much more money compared to ordering it online or going to best buy . It paid because the guy that built it understood exactly what my needs are and if I have a problem or question I can call him directly and take care of it immediately without confusion or a run around . Ninja updates often and uses more than 1 core so a computer thats suitable now may not be in the near future therefore it pays to get personalized service from a computer tech .

This is great advice for the less technical or non-savvy computer guys. I recommend this approach very much over buying a name brand system.

I'm talking about an independent store --- not some chain store like Best Buy which I would never, ever use.

I'm happy with mine, nothing too fancy but pretty good bang for the buck with I7 processor , what a difference from dual core, I waited a long time too

I for one would go for a manufacturer/builder with the least amount of "crapware" installed. Which means you might consider a Lenovo (use to be IBM).
