I am wondering whether the following facility exists.
The alert box in MT4 that typically comes up in the middle of the screen when a signal is triggered - is there a way to make the Mt4 window come to the front automatically, so overriding whatever other software program I am working on at the time, so I can see the alert when it happens ? Typically what happens is that I am working on something else, then flip back to mt4 and then see and hear all the popups that occurred while I was working on the other program. Not good !
And I would rather have Mt4 on a machine doing other things as well and let the computer alert me, rather than having a separate machine and screen just so I can keep mt4 on top.
Is this something that can be configured on MT4 itself or does it have to have a hook into the OS ? (W7 64)
Apologies in advance if the answer is blindingly obvious and I have missed something elementary !
I always thought I heard the MT4 alerts regardless of what applications I'm running and using at the same time. Is that not the case? I know you can set up emails to be sent to your cellphone to alert you. I would check out some of the forex factory forums for some of the actual code to do that because I've seen very similar topics discussed over there.
What I was trying to do was to make sure the alert box comes up over the other apps, so if I am out for a few minutes and don't hear the sound I will see the alert box floating over the other apps I was working on at the time. The email alerts are doable but that does not really give me the pop-up function. (Unless I get an email client that both works of IMAP/IDLE and brings itself to the front whenever it gets an email - actually that might be quite good.) What I was thinking about was the fact that you can use a .bat or .exe file in place of the .wav file in the alert set-up, so could link to an automation script to put MT4 to the front, but the problem with that is that if you are working on another monitor or virtual desktop, the alert box (sometimes and very inconsistently) pops up on the virtual desktop you are working on, which would be ideal if it was consistent, but it isn't, and often as not pops up on the virtual desktop you are at, but BEHIND the apps you are working on, so you still have no idea an alert has been triggered. Very useful. Not. !! So given all of that, unless there is some way of forcing the box to always come up on the monitor on which MT4 is located, and writing a little script to bring MT4 to the front, then your suggestion of using email is pretty good. If anyone else has worked out how to do the window/script bit, it would be great to know .......
It's an old post, but I have been in a similar situation recently. If you are waiting for several popups you are also in trouble. A possible solution is to create some wav/mp3 files which just mention the element they are refering (such as EUro, dow jones, forgotten, or whatever you want...). In this case, when the alert is triggered, via alert or via ea, you can hear and identify the chart that has produced the audio.
In this case, you still have the problem caused by playing several audio files from mt4, some of them can be omitted
