How on earth can I enter all S&P500 stocks into the market scanner? I can do each one mannually but I see no way to enter them all at the same time. I have IQFeed. This is really frustrating just trying to do this one simple thing. Grrrr!

I see that i can import 'data' from ASCII files. Assuming this is the way to do it....does anyone know where I can get one that has the S&P500? Why doesn't MC have these symbols already built in? This is a pain to do something so simple. I've taken it for granted that the S&P500 symbol list is available on other platforms. :-(

I have iqfeed and imported about two thousand tickers pretty easily in quotemanager.

Is I remember right, I used the add instrument tool then selected the exchange like nasdaq or arca, then the * symbol wildcard to get the whole list. Then ctrl-a to select all and import.

TWS doesn't support the wildcard character, if it's supported you will see a message in the Add Symbols dialog window. From IQFeed you can add a whole bunch of symbols at once to the QuoteManager by searching for the wildcard and choosing a particular exchange (i.e. display all symbols from that exchange).

This is what you should enter in the Exchange field in order to search those exchanges. The First value is what you should enter, the second value is what will be searched up.

"DJ" - "CBOT"
"NMS" - "NASDAQ"
"NGM" - "NASDAQ"
"NASD_ADF" - "NASDAQ"
"NTRF" - "NASDAQ"
"NGSM" - "NASDAQ"
"CME-FL" - "CME"
"CMEMINI" - "CME"
"EUREXNDX" - "EUREX"
"EURNXTNDX" - "EEB"
"ENID" - "EEB"
"ENIR" - "EEB"
"BARCLAYS" - "BARB"
"NYMEX_MTF" - "NYMEX"
"NYMEX_ECM" - "NYMEX"
"NYSE_AMEX" - "NYSE"
"NYSE_LIFFE" - "NYSE"
"NYSE_TRF" - "NYSE"
"C2" - "CBOE"
"DJ" - "CBOT"
"CBOTMINI" - "CBOT"

When they show up, click on the fist one in the range that you want to select, hold down SHIFT, and then choose the list one in the range with a mouse click. This will highlight the range. Click OK. This will add all of them at once.

To add them all to the Market Scanner at once follow a similar procedure. Open the Market Scanner. Right click on the cell, choose Insert Instrument. Choose IQFeed and the Appropriate Tab. Click on the first symbol in the range, hold down SHIFT and then click on the last one. Go to Settings, choose the length of backfill and the resolution. Click OK. All of the symbols will be entered at once into the Scanner.

This sounds long and complicated, but it's not really. Once you get done with all the reading you can get the SP500 from IQFeed into your Scanner in under ten clicks of your mouse.

Then ctrl-a to select all and import.

CTRL+A doesn't work in the Insert Symbols dialog. You have to use the Shift key as I described. It's a little counter intuitive that it doesn't work, and that there is no SELECT ALL button, I would like to see that changed in the future.

Thanks. I used the windows shift select feature, standard windows commands. Just figured ctrl-a would work and is easier for most people to understand, but didn't test it before I wrote that post.
