I've been looking for a futures broker on the west coast to replace my current (crappy) one.... but I haven't had any luck with getting recommendations in other discussion areas, so I'd like to appeal to you!

The only two big brokerages I've found on the west coast, who both happen to also be in LA, are:

Cannon Trading Company
Futures Trading, Commodity Broker, Online Commodities, Options - Cannon Trading since 1988

MB Trading
MB Trading - Stocks Options Futures Forex Online Discount Trading

They both have similar commissions, the only real difference are the platforms they offer.... I was wondering if anybody has any other suggestions? I'd really like somebody in LA, but I'm willing to look in the rest of CA too, possibly even the rest of the west coast.

Thank You

- JL

Maybe I am missing something really important - but other than supporting your local economy, why the priority or requirement of finding a broker on the west coast?

Mike

I hate to revive a necropolis thread (I guess a few months isn't too bad), but I took a break from the internet/trading communities and didn't see Mike's reply until now. The volatility encouraged me to see what other people were talking about =).

No you didn't miss anything really important... to my knowledge at least =). I wanted a west coast broker (specifically one in LA) admittedly mostly for "soft" reasons - I just liked the idea, and it was a gut feeling. Very slight time zone issues also played into it, although of course all of our hours are set by the markets... Perhaps I was most interested in the idea of getting to know my broker and becoming friends, possibly "doing lunch" as people in LA say. If trading is your lifestyle I think it's important to make sure you set yourself up for success and happiness <- does that sound cheesy?

For what it's worth I went w/ Cannon Trading, though Global Futures was a close second, and I've been impressed so far. Mike - knowing my reasoning, what do you think of my methodology of choosing a new broker? Not that all I cared about was the coast they were on, but it was a nice way of narrowing it down.
