I have been using the latest trial version of NT 7. I have used both PFG and DTN.IQ feed with the latest updates for NT. The speed of chart loading is about equal. I have been in contact with NT support several times about the load time of charts. I can't believe it is acceptable to a trader to have several minutes or longer to load charts. At this time i am loading only two charts, one market analyzer with less than 10 symbols. My main software packages are Trade Station and MarketDelta and have never experienced load times this time consuming and inefficient. Is there something wrong with their software or am i missing something. I merely wanted a cost effective backup to my other trading software programs. Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

The load time of your charts depends on many parameters

-> type of chart and base period, do you use minute or tick data?
-> lookback period of chart
-> instrument
-> indicators you have put on your chart

If you have one bad indicator, it can take very long, there is a problem with some draw objects that can slow down loading times as well.

But as you gave us no information what is on your charts, we cannot give you any answer.

Inline with what Fat Tails said, you can try creating a new chart and make sure there is no template (no indicators) attached to it - and then see if the time improves. From there maybe you can narrow down the bottleneck.

What are the specs of your system? Quad core?

Mike

Add an output window to your workspace. See if any runtime error messages appear as the charts load. Also check your trace file for error warnings.

Any runtime errors, especially UNHANDLED exceptions, will drastically slow chart loading - or worse.

If you find any errors the next step is to fix the code in the indicators that are generating them.

Many people here can help with that.

I put NT7 back on my second computer and was griping about how slow it was and someone reminded me that I needed to check "Save chart data as historical". After I did that it went from a couple minutes to about 5 seconds to load or change a chart. Not sure if that is the problem but you might make sure it's checked.

I, too, had similar problems after upgrading from 7.0.1000.2 to 7.0.1000.5 & contacted NT. Here is the response I got. I followed their instructions and it has helped.

When NinjaTrader does not respond it is using too many system resources to complete the request, and so you will want to review the following performance tips:

NinjaTrader Version 7

However, if the issue persists you can close NinjaTrader and then go to My Documents > NinjaTrader 7 > db > cache and then remove the contents of that folder. Additionally, please repair the database. Please follow the instructions below to repair the NinjaTrader database.

Disconnect NinjaTrader from any open connections via File > Disconnect
From the NinjaTrader Control Center window select the menu Tools > Options
Select the "Data" tab
Press the "Repair DB" button
Press the "OK" button

After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!

"Save chart data as historical" should only be checked if are using a connectivity provider that does NOT provide historical data

I dunno Silvester, I just timed it several times using different number of days and different indicators and I can promise you on my machine it is straight up faster with the box checked using the zenfire connection. But hey, if assuming NT knows what is best for you makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, then more power to you.

Why do you say that? If you want to increase the load time, it would be more efficient to have the data on your hard disk drive.

If you don't check this option, it's going to have to download ALL of the data from their server before the charts load. If you have more than say 10 days of historical tick data, this can take a long time depending on your internet speed.
