Like many who are members at BigMikeTrading, I use NinjaTrader but am less than completely happy with the platform.

I would be interested in any comparisons of how X_Trader and MD Trader compare with the NinjaTrader offerings. And I know this may be like asking Mercedes to compare themselves to a Ford Pinto, but nevertheless I think this would be of interest.

In particular, I'm interested in knowing X_Trader's approach to the following areas:
  • User definable indicators - what languages are supported and API?
  • Is there a document available where we could look at how the API works?
  • Is there auto-trading and strategy support - also what languages are supported and what is the strategy API like?
  • Is there any extra charge or any extra fees charged for access to the API or for being an X-Trader developer? (If so how much?)
  • Any support for C# indicators and/or strategies?
  • Are there any interfaces or porting tools for other (possibly proprietary) APIs (like Trade Station's EasyLanguage)?
  • Is there a StrategyAnalyzer for backtesting algorithms and/or for auto-trading strategies?
  • Can we create multiple-timeframe, multiple-instrument indicators & strategies?
  • Can a single chart display multiple panels including multiple instruments all on the same chart?
  • Is historical bid/ask data supported? (i.e., can we display historical charts showing volume of trades transacted at market-prices - similar to Investor R/T's VolumeBreakdown tool?)
  • Can strategies and indicators access incoming Bid/Ask pricing and Level-2 packet data?
(Another way of saying this would be can an indicator reference the data displayed on the DOM and Time&Sales windows in real time for display by an indicator or for decision-making in a strategy?)
  • How "open" are the interfaces and internals of X_Trader? (Are we going to hear, "sorry that's not supported" a lot with no future hope of having a feature added, changed or deleted?)
  • When fixes in new releases are promised, how long does it generally take for the release to become available?

That'll do for starters.

PAM421,
Thank you for your questions. I will forward your post to TT people so they can review them before the webinar. If it’s not possible to answer each question during the webinar due to time, our support desk will fill in the blanks afterward.
Thank you,
Bobk

If you have any questions about our services at Velocity Futures please send me a private message.

The guys at VF will surely try to respond you (and this will be useful for everyone) but for some tech/dev questions , I would suggest you to post directly at the TT Forum TT User Forum - Trading Technologies International, Inc. or their Developer Portal Trading Technologies: Development Support .

Let's begin with one of those questions that no one wants to see but it's been discussed in this and NT forums:

When/if a TT FIX for Ninjatrader will be available in a no'coalesced' mode? It's a NT limitation or what?
It's simple talking about API and TT adapter for NT but does it make sense if trading with Ninjatrader and a TT feed is quite different that a pure TT feed via Guardian?

I'm still wondering why would one consider X Trader. I logged on to the webinar because I've heard some raves about the product, but everything presented in the webinar were very basic features. Is it just me, or perhaps the presentation was meant for new traders unfamiliar with other trading products, or is it that the presenters did not have enough expertise in the standout features of the product to make it shine?

Someone mentioned the speed of X-Trader. How is the speed quantified in reference to competitive products? Speed was not apparent in the webinar either. Other then the static DOM, which is also available on other platforms for a fee, why would an experienced trader want to look at X-Trader? Can some experienced X-Trader users chime in, and give a list of highlighted features that are superior to competitive products?

Trading Technologies International, Inc.

The greatest factors from what i've heard are speed, connectivity, reliability.

Thanks, but that's the product website. I was looking more for user experience; users who use the product, to list what they like about it, what is good, what is bad, what is better what is worst, then other products, why they chose it, etc.

For instance, I use NinjaTrader. I use chart trader, not a DOM, so I find NT chart trader is excellent, NT ATM's are unsurpassed, NT C# programmability is paramount for me personally, and the speed is more then adequate for anything I've thrown at it. My major issue with NT is stability. I've never really gone a full week without NT7 freezing or crashing in the middle of the trading day, (with NT6.5 it was more like once a day), but because of all the list of outstanding features mentioned above, I am stuck with it until I find another product that offers me all of those features on a solid base, or until NT stability becomes rock solid.
