@ smcjb,

Thanks for the considered reply. As you will have garnered from my posts, I have no intention (any more) of attempting (in earnest) to use X_Trader, given the countless issues I have had and the countless hours spent with TT and AMP tech support trying to iron everything out, alas, without ANY success. TT managed to get the P&L working, but once I restarted the machine a day later, the P&L's were all gone again.

Never mind, life is too short. But I will continue to log into X_Trader once or twice daily, just out of curiosity, as it is truly remarkable, how production s/w can behave so randomly. That may be ok for some trivial apps, but for trading s/w, that is a slightly different matter.

My trading style and strategies do require charts and I actually quite like the X_Study functionality as well as look and feel, IF only it actually worked. I also really like the Autospreader, but again, if I can't test any of my strategies first (and see how much money they make or loose me), then that is of no use to me. I am not a great fan of ADL. I find it too limited, in terms of its ability to build treading logic around (even standard) technical indicators without resorting to EXCEL.

A new week and a new TT X_Trader Pro SIM cock-up. Thought I would give it an other spin and, yes, lo and behold, nothing worked. None of the exchanges are available in Guardian..... Ah well, let's try again tomorrow.....

Autospreader is very good. The new 7.17 version has some significant improvements as well. I can honestly say that autospreader changed my career. It's evolved over the years but you have to remember it was basically the same tool 10+ years ago. Back then it was so powerful used the right way it was amazing.

I gather CQG now have a nice autospreader as well, but I haven't used it.

I like ADL, and use it extensively. You can program ADL to do some very complicated things, and very easily. You can also use ADL to manage/automate autospreader as they are designed to work together. As you say though it's CURRENTLY not ideal for technical/indicator style trading though. I say currently because they are supposed to release an analytics block very very soon that will enable you to incorporate technical indicators without having to program them yourself or link to excel. Details Here.

One trick with Sim is to log out of sim, log into live, then out of live and back into sim. Logging into the live enviroment causes Sim to shut down all its process's. Not sure why but that seems to correct many quirky issues.

If your not going to attempt to get it to work, we probably don't need to know every day that it still doesn't work for you. I still believe your biggest problem is probably your broker.. but oh well.

What version of XTrader Pro and what version of Sim are you using? I was just looking at the AMP website and all their documentation for Pro is 7.11 and 7.12. While 7.12 was the last full version before 7.17 those are both about two years old.

For those who are having issues with X-Trader SIM, in what order have you installed the software?

I have never had any issues using XT in SIM mode, but have heard that X-Trader Pro needs to be installed first and SIM installed second.

MET68 the error message you got with FDAX can be b/c your broker does not offer that contract and/or market or your account is not configured to have access to it.

Software issues can easily drive a trader mad in no time, but as for X-Trader and TT as a whole, once you work out your kinks and understand the nuances of the software, it is next to impossible to beat!

Another thing to remember in SIM mode is your admin has to enable you to have access to contracts you wish to use in SIM mode. I figured simply logging in in SIM mode would give me the same contacts I see live but it doesn't work that way. Your admin has enable you for select contracts. That said, it's well worth the trouble as I've taken my trading to a new level now as I could safely build order types and spreading strategies in simulation and test them before running them live.

Simulation mode, which includes all of the exchanges and products that you have in production mode, is very, very easy to get into on the TT platform and requires no setup at all.
