Hey Guys and Gals,

Is anyone familiar with the Traders Agency and Josh Martinez? Looks like they are all over Youtube and people seem to like Josh's style of teaching and analyzing the market. They offer bunch of products including a "Tunnel Trader" strategy for scalping. I wonder if there are folks here who have used their strategy and what they think of it?

Thanks

I took a peak last year on some kind of free weekend to find out what it's all about. Always intrigued by others perspective on the markets. But bottom line at TA Josh uses Ninja Trader and selling you custom indicators. I'm seeing a trend out there cause I see it in YT vids on great topics and then it's all about their proprietary indicators. It may work for you. I'm just not a fan and convinced that these hyped up indicators are the answer. I've been fortunate enough to be around seasoned traders who warned me about this when I first started and quite content on strategies I use. There are reputable trading educational companies that do a great job teaching you the futures market and not looking to get you in trying to sell you more 'stuff'. IMO for the majority, good education gets thrown in the back burner and they're looking for that one thing (ie. be a 'Tunnel Trader'). Be careful out there and best of luck to you!

Hi TraderGee,
Sorry for the late response. Your input is much appreciated. I have signed up for Tunnel Trader along with rest of the package (live sesions and education section). So far you are 100% correct. Education section along with live sessions are good but the indicator along with the strategy is not performing as I expected. I am not sure a strategy based on VWAP can work the way it was advertised, although who am I to say? What has worked for you? Any ideas or vendors that you can recommend, both in teaching and providing products? Thanks.

Hi cskafan123-
Sorry it’s not working for you... Well I would chuck it for experience or give it some time to at least recoup your investment? Hope you didn’t spend too much but as far as myself on strategies I use may or may not work for you. I do think strategies do need to match your personality, ie; scalper, trend trader, swing, etc.

Personally as a scalper I load up and really looking for the extremes on the impulse or high volume. I use market profile, volume profile and charts that are daily, 4hr, 60m to 15m for top down approach to establish my levels for entry, target and exit. My risk/reward I try to achieve 1:2+ and do get out of trades right away when it’s not going my way. I do not use indicators other than your session and your market internals to trade equities. I’m also looking for a catalyst either from a scheduled event, news, etc. Mostly trading about 3 hours in the morning and done for the day whether I profit or not. I also use orderflow using tools like footprint, market depth, reading tape, etc. This was all comprised of multitude of educational programs I’ve immersed myself into and came up with my own approach I use to scalp.

Some of the programs I’ve use to learn the futures markets are the following and rank them in a way it relates to us going to school: TradePro Academy (Grade school), Axia Futures (High School) and Open Trader Pro (College). These were the main ones that changed my game and were able to develop my edge. This doesn’t include the multitude of books that I’ve read on the subject and other training programs were good but not on top of my list. This all took awhile and I was not a consistent profitable trader until after 2 years and still look at other approaches to compliment or improve my game.

Not sure if this helps but like all profession I believe it takes time to educate, that leads to practice or apprenticeship then leads to opening up your own business for profit. I think if you keep that in mind and develop yourself with good structure with discipline you can succeed. Please don’t take the programs I taken that it would work for you. I would take advantage of any programs money back guarantee and see if it’s the right fit. If it doesn’t work get out and do more research to look at what would suit you.

Hi TraderGee-
Thanks for sharing your method. I like to think that scalping is my favorite method, although I use way too much emotions when I scalp. I am mostly guessing where the price will go and that is simply because I don't quite understand the Price action. I'm giving the Tunnel Trader a second chance. I've always searched for a strategy that can perform on its own (ideally) and around the clock. Back testing the TT I get profitable trades of more than 62% ( tested all the way back to October 2019) with an average profit factor of 1.30. Ii it ideal? Nope but if there's a strategy out there that can generate better numbers without me being in front of the PC all day I'd jump on right away.

Cheers

That’s ok.. everyone has a bit of emotions and that just goes with time and confidence in your edge. Like any skill it takes time to develop and then it becomes second nature. The more you work at it, it will come around. Never give up! Best of success to you!

I own the tunnel trader - from what I can see it's the 2nd deviation vwap bands. I don't own the other product. With tunnel trader, it works in balanced, non-trending markets (I can think of summer time trading). The issue for me is: it requires you to hold onto the trade kind of long, and in trending markets it's not that effective (even with the re-entry signal). R:R isn't always great either IMO - but in non-trending markets again it has a higher than 50% success rate.

dyoung,
I agree TT does an OK job at ranging markets and that's all it does. What do you use for trending markets? I'm trying to understand what works for most folks out there.

My input the tunnel is nothing more than VWAP
Use Fattails VWAP Change the setting to 2,3,5 and it perfectly matches from memory
