I am currently doing a Quantower demo through Edge Clear. It's a funny platform...some of it is really clever, but there are some things that are missing that you would think it would have. For instance, it doesn't have a previous OHLC indicator. What the heck?

Are bracket orders held server-side? I plan on using Rithmic data if that makes a difference. I'm not entirely clear how it works.

I was able to get an answer...Quantower, run on rithmic api+, holds OCO functionality server-side...in case anyone is curious.

I am evaluating Quantower and appreciate some help form an experienced Quantower user here at futures.io..

My first impression of Quantower is good and I like the static DOM implementation. However, I can not figure out some settings.

1. DOM. In the DOM I would like to see in the price column highlighted the last price. Not the best ask or best bid. I can not figure out this setting after watching the videos and going through the manuals. Support is not that responsive.

2. Pre-set bracket order. Once I apply in the DOM at the desired price (which is typically way-off the then current pricelevel) the pre-set bracket order, I see no indication at the desired pricelevel in the DOM of that applied pre-setting. How can I apply such an indication?

Does anyone have issues with Quantower/CQG recently?

It seems that they are not able to manage the CQG connection properly

I've had wrong orders filled, but in a very strange way

I mean +/- 100 points above or below the current price

But these wrong fills were not real.

This bug has generated a lot of confusion

This happened twice in a week

Quantower on first look and first use is a beautiful application. There is a lot of slick framework abilities with this app: Workspaces, binds and grouping of charts and templates are done very nicely.

They have the MOST connections of ANY Software Charting app i have seen to both data feeds and brokers... TOO Many... they should have spent more of their dev time on factoring (cleaning up their code) and user usability and support.

You can build custom indicators in C# with their open API or hire them for dev that is a HUGE plus.

But there are a LOT of irritating bugs in the software especially if you are doing equities.
1. Chart data sometimes does not show up on certain time frames.
2. Custom sound alerts that do not always fire or even save the name of the custom sound alert file.
3. Undefined Day Session range
4. Undefined Extended Day Session range
5. vWap is not done right for single sessions without having to reset it over and over again.
6. User setting Panels open and look good but usability is really poor in how they are laid out and choices missing.
7. Auto Scale charts do not have margin settings for top or bottom limits.

and a LOT more than that.

God help you if you need real support. The ONLY help is by email and by ONE support rep and many times he is too busy to really help you so you are ignored by long delays of email sending / receiving.

Quantower is going to lose 100's and 100's of long term customers with their lack of polish and poor details and poor usability and by NOT making sure all their code has been checked for user performance and is ready for prime time.

And... Yet... What they are doing is expanding their business in a lot of directions... Classic long term short term problem in business... Expand your biz real fast and get a whole lot of customers... do not properly support them and boom... big contraction in income and the quality of the product suffers and the existing users suffer and the owner suffers and ditto with their employees.

If you are doing just ES or other single futures only with simple indicators you might find it works fine for you.

But please DO not buy a Lifetime license until you have used QT for at least 3 months from stem to stern... and... If you do buy a lifetime license buy it with a credit card so you have the power of charging it back if you do not get the support you need or the app does not work the way it was advertised to do so.

I am going to continue using this software and hoping I can find a build that works right for me. The potential is fantastic but the existing is a disappointment.

Edgey...

I have been using it for about 2 weeks now. I find it much better than Multicharts.NET for trading e-mini futures.
No complaints on setup, execution or features.
It's faster than MC.NET.
Currently rewriting indictors and automated strategy to work with QT from MC.NET.

Hi Faroogh.

I appreciate you taking the time to post you experiences with QT and I agree with you that QT has great potential and does a lot of the major/primary requirements very nicely.

I too am hoping to code some custom indicators in QT... So I will look forward to your experiences with their development API and performance of your custom indicators in QT once you have them built... TYou..

but...

Also, as I wrote in my initial post...

""If you are doing just ES or other single futures only with simple indicators you might find it works fine for you.""

For traders who are using QT for ONLY one symbol or very few trading symbols there is quite a bit less that can go wrong or require support for. So the trading stress is not so much.

But for traders who are using QT for Equity trading, like watching 10 to 20+ stocks at a time. Any minor usability flaws get magnified quite a bit, to say the least.

Let me give you two examples with a little more detail... concerning the flaws as I mentioned in my previous post

1. Almost EVERY financial charting App has the choice of Auto-Scaling your charts. and... so does QT... BUT... QT does not give the options (in the chart settings for auto-scale) to limit by % the high point or the low point of the data from the top and bottom of the chart OR how close to allow the data to the right side of the chart border... or even the choice to care or NOT to care about how close the data is to the right hand side border is missing.

So MANY times the candles go down to FAR to the bottom of the chart and up to FAR to the top of the chart and even go into the Volume bars area below and up into the data info on the top... Not good.

This is BASIC 101 Chart App coding... QT needs to add parameters for high, low and distance from in auto scale settings... AND QT has not done this after 3 years of dev ?? - No they have not.

and second...

2. vWap...

For equity trading (not sure how many future traders watch it) vWap is HUGE. Imagine that every day you had to manually restart vWap for it to correctly show on the screen

If the trader is ONLY watching one or two symbols, no prob, but if you are watching a lot symbols (20+) this becomes a nightmare!

QT has as their vWap setting setup so you have to start vWap by setting the date AND time each day where you want the vwap to start... that is exhausting. Imagine doing that on 20+ charts... each day. What if you have mutiple time charts for each symbol... Mama mia.

and I could go on a bit more about a lot of other details some of which others in this thread have brought up and others which they have not brought up.

So again... QT is a charting app of great potential that needs a decent Software Architect to do usability checks WEEKLY rather than trying to grow their biz HUGE when their product is not ready for prime time and can cost traders money through poor usability and the stress that goes with it.

Thank You for yor time Faroogh...

I look forward to any post you make that can shed further light on QT's usability and performance as well as your building and integration of your C# custom indicators on and into QT.

Yes, their support replied with delay. But now they are responding much faster. Perhaps customer pressure triggered the change.

Good to know... Thanks... Was your support a complex issue or standard problem ?

I think it's not complex) with TPO chart (custom session doesn't work properly) and some improvements for DOM panel (last trade on price column). They promised to fix it.
