Do you have to have Bloodhound to run it thru a Backtest?

Cheers,
StreetPreacher

Hi StreetPreacher,

This indicator does NOT do well with Bloodhound, unfortunately.

In order to backtest, I had to write a simple NT8 NinjaScript strategy.

So, no, Bloodhound is not a requirement and this indicator will actually not work with Bloodhound as far as I can tell. Others more proficient with Bloodhound may be able to find a solution but it would not work for me.

Blue skies,

Hey PilotTrader,

Is there a way to setup an Alert for the signals so you dont have to sit at your monitor all day or could you create the ability to do that if there isnt a way currently?

Thanks,
StreetPreacher

Now this is getting interesting! I ran NT8 SA optimization on the data series and got the results shown below. Geeez, 1.52 profit factor pretty good on second attempt at this thing. Looks like 35-minute (I guess 30-minute chart would work) was the optimum data series for this.

Yes, absolutely. One can always add an audio alert to the strategy. Personally, if & when I get a good level of confidence with the strategy, I would simply let the strategy enter the trade for me. But sure, audio alert can be easily added to via NinjaScript.

I know nothing about Bloodhound.

If it can't reference the indicator and there are errors, how can a strategy be written?

Can it be that the PI indicator is not calculating properly and is not functioning as it should?

Where can I download this indicator.

The Pi Oscillator can be purchased from Precision Trading Systems.com

Thanks for the response Pilot trader.

If it looks good from my end would you mind helping me set this up as a strategy with Alerts also?

That is if it isn't too much trouble. If it is I could reimburse you for it.

Thanks man,
StreetPreacher

To help with trading the PI-Oscillator, you could also ignore the sell signals in a strong bull trend and the buy signals in a strong bear trend. Also consider trading 3 contracts, and exit one at a small first target, one at a medium target, and one that you'd be willing to let run all day. Could really work well with an automated trailing stop to lock in gains quickly. Works really well on stocks too so don't forget about that as well.

I have been experimenting with Pi-Osc on CL the past couple of days (reviewing old trades to see if it would have helped at all). I am finding it is could be a useful complement to my existing systems, particularly with exits. It also occasionally would have helped me get in a bit earlier, resulting in tighter stop / larger size / better R.

For entries, with my style of trading, it seems to be a good "pay attention" signal.

Overall, I'm liking it. Just wish it ran on Sierra.

Thanks to the OP for the thread!
