Ho hum, it's Tuesday. I managed a few good trades around the London open and called it quits after 9 trades in 90 minutes. It's so much nicer when things work out this way and I don't have to grind for 12 hours into the night.

ES +20.5p, +1,025
NQ -2.25p, -$45
9 trades
Net PnL +$904

Fun observation: I started taking practice trades in the sim account that Leeloo provides in NinjaTrader. That account is up +1.3k over two days, while my evaluation account - where I place the 'serious' trades - is at a paltry $184. I need to hire a shrink to fix the glitch in my head that's causing this.

I have the same issue.

My Live account - $2200,
My Sim account + $7000.

I don't get it at all.
Let me know if you find a fix for it.

How are you finding NinjaTrader so far?

Do you take advantage of any of the advanced charting such as Orderflow?
Are you using any indicators at all?

I'm new to NT and enjoying it so far.
I love the Chart Trader and ATM fuctions.

For trading I use the Orderflow VWAP, Candlestick Markers and the OHLC.

I am looking at Cumulative Delta and Volumetric Footprint Bars over the next week to see if they can help at all. I think they may be a great confirmation for scalping strategies, but let's see.

Good luck

Hi Gaz0001!

I don?t have a fix, but I do have a workaround:
? In chart trader, choose the live account, then change the chart trader settings to "hidden"
? In the DOM, choose the sim account
? Leave the computer on overnight and forget what you?ve done
? The next day you?ll see the DOM on sim and start placing trades by right clicking on the chart to set limit/stop orders
? Once triggered these orders will go to your live account

This worked well on a couple of trades last week until I saw the green numbers in my live account rather than sim, at which point my lizard brain kicked into action.

Caveat: I disavow responsibility for any catastrophes if you try this yourself?

Thanks! I think NT is merely ok. When I want to clear my main monitor for other stuff, I have to move and position 4 windows, which is annoying. My other platforms have just one window to drag. Aside from that, NT charts are pretty, and it?s got good execution features.

I do have this persistent issue with the DOM and charts not being in sync. Sometimes the chart and DOM move in opposite directions. Other times I?ll see activity on the DOM and nothing on the chart, and then 5-10 bars will appear on the chart at once.

My favorite platform for futures is Tradovate. Bloody fast, that one.

I don?t use traditional indicators when I?m trading. Occasionally I might draw a fib for moral support when I need to convince myself to hold fast or bail. I use ATR and volume profile in my charts in TradingView. And I?m looking into order flow visualizations like BookMap or DOM Surface, as I'm too lazy to do the work to properly read the tape. I have nothing against traditional indicators but I haven't found any that work better for me than just the naked charts.

Cheers,
Mordecai

I kind of have a solution for the windows thing, which I agree is annoying that they are not in a windowed workspace.
My workaround, I switch to a naked workspace which just has the accounts window active. That way my screens dissappear but I can still see accounts to make sure things arent going wild!

I heard about the Dom and Chart lag before, but actually I don't use Dom Window. Really didn't find a good use for it to date.

I'm keeping volume profile on my other screen, still done in NT though.
I have the order flow depth enabled but very light with high opacity which does a good job.
In addition to that I keep a small chart up with the volumetric bars for the Delta. Quite useful actually, and it kinda points out major support and resistance at a glance rather than drawing lines all over the chart!

Anyway, nice chat, good luck, and I'll be popping in from time to time if you don't mind.

Well crap. I just failed the 150k evaluation.

Just when I thought I was getting into a groove (aka hubris), I decided to take a swing trade, as the ones I'd been practicing in sim had done well. I built a big 12-lot ES position starting around 4418, adding all the way down to 4406. I was confident it would run down to yesterday's close just below 4400. After a few legs down it looked like the trade was headed in the right direction. I set a generous SL and stepped away to let it play out.

When I got back, it had reversed strongly to hit the trailing drawdown. I badly miscalculated the SL on 12 lots and it was well above the point where my account was liquidated.

I should stick to scalping.

Anyhow, it's been a tiring few weeks. Time for a break.

I did use Ninjatrader for a while and noticed with the DOM that if in the options I had the box checked to show total depth, ie, the sum of the depth on each side, that would increase CPU usage dramatically shown on the Task Manager. That was a quite a while ago though so maybe they have improved things since then.

Nut that doesn't help if the charts are lagging. I do remember that there used to be a page in the Ninjatrader help files with performance tips to minimise resource usage, just in case you haven't already seen it.

Edit: Just continued reading down, bad luck on the account.

You do not win as a trader, you just get to play again the next day. If that game doesn’t appeal to you then you should not trade. Gary Norden

Thanks - I don't think it's an issue on my side, I'm running a Ryzen 5700g and 32gb RAM with 2 monitors (4k and 2k, NT on the 2k monitor). NT never gets above 8% CPU usage. Plus the other platforms I use don't have this lag (Tradovate, MT4, TradingView, IB TWS). It has something to do with NT's charts, as the DOM keeps up just fine. It's annoying but hasn't really affected my trading (at least not per my stats). If I ever have to pay for a platform I'd go with Quantower or Multicharts over NT.
