User @Cutloss has been banned for violation of forum policies on civility, after receiving a clear warning yesterday on what is acceptable and what is not.
There are many reasons for the forum's rules about how members should conduct themselves. It comes down to treating each other with respect and professionalism, which creates a community as well as an opportunity for sharing knowledge.
In the case @Cutloss mentions, when he attacked another member for "fake" results in "demo" trading of spreads, he apparently thought the spreads in question were the bid-ask spread. If he had asked what the other person meant, he would have found out that there are many types of spread trading, including things like calendar spreads between contracts in the same instrument but with different settlement dates, a common type of spreading in futures and options, and apparently a new idea for him.
One problem with having a negative, attacking attitude is that keeps the person who has it from growing. Another is that it is disruptive to the community, which needs to be free of attacks in order for people to be willing to participate.
@Cutloss was given a little slack yesterday on the basis of some other, worthwhile, posts he has made. But when it comes down to the basic attitudes of mutual respect, this is not a matter of "being nice," it is a matter of what is essential to a community, at least to this kind.
There are many places on the internet where negativity and personal attacks are acceptable, but they are not here.
