Been trading ES/NQ for few years and still struggling with several trading aspects.

I'm planning to use this journal to help me out with discipline issue while trading with E2T in 75k account.

I expect this journal is going to be a boring one and english isn't my native language.
Any comment is welcome and thank you for any participation.

2nd day into trading 75k combine which is going so far so good. Still, discipline is one of my main problems to follow my trading plans. One random trade almost wiped out today's gain should it not have been a trending up day.

I need a plan on how to past this combine.

In order to past it, one has to make about $300 a day in 15 trading days = $4500, while E2T's profit target rule is to exceed $4300 for 75k combine.

I already made >$1400 in two days. All I need is to make $2900 for the next 13 days which is about $250 a day + commissions. I don't see a reason why I need to over trading because I can make >$250 for one trade if I stick to my trading plan. Yeah... that's my another problem. I need to hold back when there isn't any trade to take.

ES/NQ seem untradable this morning with unclear direction and both sides might get killed easily. Bigger pic like position/swing time frame is still slightly bullish to me. The day is still young. I'll wait for price action to clear out before making any move.

3rd day into trading 75k combine. I made $585 which already exceeded my daily profit target of $250. Playing conservative here.

Day 4: one losing trade happened around midnight for -$700. I followed my trading plan for this losing trade while market was choppy. Then, it headed much higher than my entry point after I cut lost. Lesson learned here is to stay away from sideway actions as soon as I'm aware of it.

Without much room left for today due to tightening daily stop loss and high volatility this morning, I've to be very careful to execute the next trade.

2nd trade was executed by following my trading plan and hence, daily loss went from -$700 to -$355.

Day 5: My account balance reaches new high. I took 2 trades following my trading plan with a gain of $800 in total. Even though E2T allows me to trade up to 9 contracts per trade for 75k combine, there is no way I can trade more than one contract per trade due to tight daily loss limit $1750 and price action these days are too volatile. It is just a matter of few minutes to hit daily stop loss using one lot for days like today where price is moving back and forth in a huge range.

With account balance above $77400, all I need is to make $200 for each day for the next 10 day and so, I'll pass this combine.

Is it just me or you guys too finding it easier to trade after hours than during market hours. Those insane vacuum moves up and down during market hours are so crazy. Imagine a trader is forced to cut losses if he bets on the wrong side.

Day 6: I missed few nice setups last night and today doing something else. I couldn't find any great setup to trade since then. It's not a big deal since I already met daily target goal of $200 from scalping here and there for $330.
With maximum drawdown level now fixed @75k, any earned profit going forward will provide more rooms for me to stay in this combine with less risk of resetting it. All I need to do is to re-enforce stop loss for any trade that might go wrong.

Have a great weekend everyone.

You mean instruments, prop firms or strategies?

Trading is quite risky if you don't know what you're doing. My recommendation is to google and read as much as you can to find out if you're really interested in trading business.

Then you need to decide what trading style you're interested in so you can focus on developing strategies for your trading style. Without strategies/trading plans, you're pretty much gambling in trading which guarantees you to lose in the long run.

Day 7: I had no clue what market was doing until two hours prior to closing. I took 2 scalping trades for a total of $250 to meet my daily objective.

How long have you been trading? What is your trading style/instrument/timeframe. I would just like some context to your trading journal. Sounds like from your journal you are off to a great start and have been profitable nearly every day you have traded. That is awesome!! I love to see green on the screen.

I wish you all the luck in the world. Keep it up!!!

About 5-6 years and my trading style is mainly scalping and day trading for ES/NQ, gold and crude oil. For this journal, I focus only on ES/NQ.

Although I'm not a highly profitable trader yet, I went through a great deal of pain to get to this stage. I devoted all of my time last few years in order to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

There are still much to learn and I'm still taking notes everyday.

Good luck to you too.

Day 8: I got up this morning and saw market already went up to the roof. I sat empty handed most of the time until I saw some scalping opportunities to show up.

Overall, I met daily target of $200 from making $430 today.

F... me. Old bad habit just kicked in again. I put on a random trade with a highly bullish biased that it would continue to rally last night. Well, it didn't and I kept holding onto it for hour until I was down $880.

Here is why I need a journal to remind me of stupid mistakes that I made or going to make. I also need to write on a notepad which setup I'm going to trade. If I can't clearly definite any setup to trade, I should stay away from my computer. Period.

Out of 37 trades that I made since the first day of this combine, there were 4 losing trades with 2 big losers took place without following my trading plans. What that tells me is if I follow my trading plans, I would have more winning trades than losing trades and also, I'd cut lost faster when my trade doesn't work out.

I've come to a solution to punish myself for making stupid trades going forward. I'll make myself to watch market for the rest of the day without taking any trade because I know I often have a weakness to rush into a trade every time when market opens at night, especially while I'm too bullish or bearish. It'll make me to suffer by watching market the whole night and the next day while I can't trade. Besides, if I can't clearly write down on a notepad which strategy I'm going to trade, I'll move away from my computer. Period.

-----------

I often notice market makes good move overnight while I'm sleeping and there is nothing left to trade by the time I get up to trade US market . I've a day trading setup that works very well to catch these movements with trend. The problem is I don't know how to code it and I don't intend to hire any programmer to help me writing the code. I can setup the alert in NinjaTrader platform, but I've problem to get up to trade overnight due to back pain which I tried few times before. Aargh!

It seems to me that you punished yourself enough. Now, the next accomplishment is probably a psychological one "Why do I punish myself and how do I stop that?" I really believe we are not "programmed" to win on the markets. We need to "reprogram ourselves", which is not that easy.

Anyway, your results were just great.
Wish you the best.

Day 10: had I held onto my trade this morning it'd have been easily a >$1000 using 1 contract to trade for this day trading setup. Instead, I got out for >$200.

My next goal is to figure out how to hold onto winners longer for day trading setups (not scalping ones.) I've seen many times these setups produce large gains for both day and night movements.

I assume you might have found some working strategies helping you to pass these combines quickly and easily. A (struggling) newbie wouldn't trade more than one combine at the same time, unless he is very confident with what he is doing. Might I ask how long you're into trading and on average how many setups do you trade daily?

Thank you for your participation and keep up with your good works. Congrat btw.

p.s. I hope this journal won't mislead newbies about how easily it's to pass any combine or making money through trading because it's not. This is a real tough business for anyone to get involved in and it's not suitable for everybody.

Day 11: winners = 3; losers = 0, PnL = $685; position size = 1

Comments: as long as I followed my trading plans, my trades turned out to be fine most of the time. Meanwhile, my E2T 75k account balance reaches new high this time.

Have a wonderful weekend

Excellent job and congrat again.

From what I'm aware of, you'll save money from monthly professional data fee $100 and NinjaTrader's monthly subscription fee $25-$50 if you trade under LiveSim first. Once you make >$5000, they will convert your sim account to real account where you'll begin to pay those fees. They'll also setup your funded sim account faster.

Just tell them to setup your account under LiveSim first if you want to save money in your pocket.

Good luck and keep us posted to see how you're doing. I'm more than happy to see you're doing well in funded account.

****

Are you also trading with real money in your personal account the same way that you're trading with E2T account? I'm just curious to know and you don't have to answer this question if you don't like.

No Iím just trading these funded accounts. Iím wondering if they have a disclaimer about posting on social media about the funded account. Also Iím probably going to trade live immediately. I want to start taking small profits as I make them.

I've no idea either. I don't believe my previous post would cause any harm/damage to them and I'm okay to remove it if E2T wanted me to. Also, I don't think they would care about posting your PnL in funded account on here as long as you're not making any serious allegations about their business model. You might ask them about it and give us their feedback if you can.

I'm not planning to take any small profits from funded account, if I can make it, until I've accumulated enough profits to allow me to increase position size or scale up.

I'm definitely taking the small profits. You don't want to realize zero and blowout. Always smart to take something along the way.

I don't know about you guys, for me MY BIGGEST ENEMY is trading sideways movements. Recently, I can see a big improvement in my trading once I'm able to identify it and avoid getting killed on both sides.

Just curious to know what do you use to identify choppy conditions? For me, MAs glue together is a tell-tale sign. I also avoid trading at market open. I read somewhere before that some traders using ATR and volume to help them out. However, I'm not smart enough to figure out how to use these tools.

Day 12: winners = 1; losers = 0, PnL = $185; position size = 1

Comments: what a slow day for me while market kept chopping back and forth. In order to pass 75k combine, I still need to trade for 3 more days and make $700. All I need is to catch a day trading setup within next 3 days + few scalping trades to mark it as a trading day, I'm all set.

Ever hear of the tale of the turle and the hare? Or the expression haste makes waste? Patience is not just a virtue, its a necessity. Taking your time to develop and execute a system will make you a more profitable trader in the long run. I've failed many times and usully its because I am in a rush. Keep up the good work.

That's true, but you're doing a wonderful job now. What matters most is you've developed your trading edge to become a profitable trader.

Thank you for your nice words and indeed, I've learnt to be more patient by having a journal and fixed rules like E2T ones to bring me into good trading habits. However, I'm still far from doing an excellent job because I'm still a student taking notes everyday.

congratulations for the performance. You are really doing great. Today I unfortunately got the challenge wrong because I entered an order with 1 contract more by mistake. As soon as I noticed the error I closed in profit less than 5 seconds. 1 minute later I received the email that I had failed the challenge. I tried to speak to customer service to explain what happened and in the end despite everything they told me that they could not do anything about it. In this I think they are unprofessional. You can't miss a challenge for an order of an extra contract closed after 10 seconds.I tried to give them all the explanations but they didn't help

Imagine the level of anger you might have if you make such mistake with your funded account. IMO, feeling sorry for you is all they can do because according to them, rules are rules. They're not kind enough to forgive you once for this mistake, but I don't think they are unprofessional in this matter.

Day 12: winners = 2; losers = 0, PnL = $380; position size = 1

Comments: I skipped several trades today in this combine which I should've taken because I always worry about the bogeyman standing behind my back every time I short the market. In order to pass 75k combine, I still need to trade for 2 more days and make $330. I still can't relax yet until I meet profit target because one wrong trade might lead to a disaster. The good thing is that with maximum draw down fixed at 75K level, I've more rooms (i.e. about $4000 instead of $2750) now to absorb small losses.

just remember, you don't need to make that $330 in 2 days. THere's no time limit. You are sooo close. You're doing great, so keep it up, pick yous pots carefully.

Best of luck.

Day 14: winners = 1; losers = 2, PnL =- $910; position size = 1+2

Comments: Life is sometimes full of irony. See screenshot, I went with 2 contracts for trade #1 because it was a sure trade and I wanted to make ~$500 to seal the deal for this combine. A minute right after I entered the trade, market moving news came out of nowhere against my trade. I decided to cut lost only when all signals against me with a lost of $945. Right after I cut lost, price came back down to my direction. Is this a bad luck trade or what?

Trade #2: Since daily stop loss is $1750, I can only risk another $700 for trade #2 before game is over. So, I went with 1 contract to short this time and made $200. My daily loss is now about -$745 + commission.

Trade #3: I began to put on random trade again with a loss of $160 using 1 contract.

================================

RULES ARE RULES. I broke my discipline rule about random trade. So, there won't be any trading for the rest of today.

Yes and now it is down >$1k. I thought I was executing a setup and only I found out later that it looked like a setup, but it was a fake one + major moving news killed that trade.

I'm going to take a pause for few days to rework/improve on some strategies because I realize that when volatility subsides, some signals would lag behind.

Stay tuned.

Okay, I think I've figured out a way to stop myself from trading fake setups esp. when volatility subsides. I can't guarantee myself that it always work, but it looks quite promising. Let's see how it goes for the next few weeks.

Besides, I'm totally committed to only trade setups starting from now on because I also have figured out the reasons why some setups worked repeated everyday. I'll only trade those setups in my comfort zone.

Spend time studying why the big moves happen. Study all time frames. Be obsessed with the process. You will eventually succeed in what you hope to accomplish. Are you still in your current evaluation, or did you start over?

I put on a trade last Friday for about $400 and I still need to make $900 so I can pass it.

Have you started to trade your funded accounts yet?

Yes. I was funded and I started trading as of Thursday. Was a pretty smooth transition. I did have the option initially to trade with one of the funding companies who offered me a live sim, but I declined and I was moved over to the other funding partner. No complaints though. I haven't withdrawn, but I have been profitable so far.

With regards to Uprofit, I passed evaluation on Friday, and I am in process of waiting for account since I already signed the contract. Should be up and running in next day or two I imagine. Has also seemed to be a smooth process. I think these are amazing opportunities to make money as long as you treat them like a business.

I managed to pass 75k combine TONIGHT.

It took 17 trading days to pass it while some of you could do it less than 10 trading days, but at least I made it

Here is my sincerely advice which might help you in the long run.

You must have setups to trade or else, you don't know what you are doing. For each setup that you trade, you must collect screenshot from the moment you enter to exit. Spend your weekend or at the end of each month to analyze your screenshots for profitable or losing trades, you'll discover many amazing things. It is a lot of works, but there isn't easy ways to do it. I spent more than 10 hours every weekend to go through ton of these screenshots so I could improve my strategies. If I can do it, there is no excuse someone else can't do it.

Besides, the main reason why I'm emotional in trading is because trading 75k combine isn't the only account that I trade for. Each mistake will cost me a lot and because of such pressure on my shoulder, I try to master everything perfect such as a perfect setup with a perfect entry, perfect stop loss and a negotiable exit.

Good luck

Thank you so much for the advice. Unfortunately I still haven't arrived at the condition of consistency and with this as soon as the bad day arrives I make big mistakes that make me wrong. I believe that the factors I need to focus on are setting rules to do and being able to apply them to the fullest. Then the psychology in the management of the position. I still have a long way to go, but I'm willing to do anything to make it. I will hold on and keep improving until I pass the challenge. How long did it take you to become consistency and find your edge? Did you burn any account?

Maybe later when I'm ready for it.

I'm still on learning curve to figure out my edges for some setups. I need to focus entirely on screen most of the time and I don't like to get distracted. Making calls on chat room will make me nervous while I'm not a successful trader yet.

Thanks for the offer though.

While waiting for my funded account setup, I continued to practice in SIM.

I took 3 trades since last night until ~10:30am (US central time). They were all profitable trades and I can see a huge different from trading more lots. So, if I ever have to trade any combine again, I guess I'll pass it much faster next time using more leverages to trade my strategies

I gave it a thought and decided to go with Helios so I don't have to pay any fee for now. It's a perfectly plan for me because it gives me time to hone my craft and building up capital so I can use more leverages later. That said, I'm not going to withdraw any money until I accumulate at least $5000 of profits.

Right now, I'm still waiting for my account to get setup.

It seems to take forever for Helios to setup my account. Three business days just to go through my paper work and two business days so far JUST to configure my LiveSim account. Still waiting..........

Well, my funded account is setup and I put in two profitable trades for few hundred bucks so far. I don't plan to update this journal everyday because I need to take a nap right after market close/go out for a walk with my spouse to enjoy the evenings.

Besides, since market tends to make big moves overnight while I'm sleeping, I'll have to wake up to trade during those nights when alert sound gets triggered. That means I'll often take naps during day time. It's unhealthy, but I guess I don't have another choice unless I can run programs to trade.

It's long weekend and Futures market barely moves tonight. So, I decided to take a quick glance at Trade Performance report since day #1 of doing E2T combine until now.

78 trades in total with 9 losing trades and equity curve reached a new all-time high. I'm convinced that if I continue to stick to my strategies while following strict rules, I'll make consistent profits in trading.

Have a great long weekend

While I'm accumulating profits slowly for the last few days, I've become more confidence to trade my strategies and I'd like to share my thoughts to those who are curious about how I create a strategy

Imo, a good strategy must consist of three simple steps or 3Ss.

1st S: safe zone or another phrase, trade in the zone. This process consumes a big chunk of time (at least few years to over a decade of hard work without a successful mentor) because one has to figure out how to configure his charts in an effective way without making things complicated. Once configuration process is done, next step is to spend as much time as one can to observe PAs to find repeating patterns daily (aglos reacting to these patterns.) These patterns have nothing to do with patterns like double bottom/top, head and shoulders, wedges, triangles or diamonds. One also needs to find out how these patterns react to up/down trend and sideways. By these trends, I mean big picture like daily trend, not small time frames like 5, 15 or 30 minutes. This is the reason why it consumes so much time to build, test and improve a setup to see how it performs in different market conditions.

2nd S: sweet spot. This process is very important for scalpers or day traders. One has to master his entry/exit methods to the point where he can immediately recognize that he must enter before it's too late or cut lost when PAs going sideways instead (no algos reaction.) I've seen for so many times when a look alike setup about to get triggered, but turned out to be a fake one because entry methods didn't confirm.

3rd S: size of strategy. This is the last step to distinguish your setups from a small one (for scalping) or a home run one (for day trading.)

Best wishes to everyone
