The job I loved had to leave due to promotion would be salary and would get paid less. More hours and pretty much same pay not worth it. Got a new job that was more than an hour away. So 8.5 hours at work plus 2 hours. 10.5 hours gone one something that paid me well but didn't love.
Now the markets. I can work 8 hours or the first 4 hours and make same if not better money. No boss to report too and freedom. Not to mention I can start all the business I wanted before now with this freedom.
Markets will provide freedom but not wealth for all.
Freedom is key here. Your time is valuable. Do what you want with it instead of working for someone where you paycheck is given to you not earned the hard way.
Perhaps there are some people who have other goals than just taking advantage of the job and getting a secure paycheck in dependence.
And that is not a question of intelligence but a question of how self-determined someone wants to shape their lives. Full-time trading can be an option.

i been thinking about this comment since i saw it a few days ago, its been in the back of my mind and I think it really boils down to what you want to do in life. If you want to keep doing something you dislike or only moderately like and the only reason you are doing it is because your getting paid well and have benefits it sounds like you are already dead.
I will be honest when I first started working the corporate world was my daily wet dream and loved dressing nice and tell people what to do and how they are wrong and working together to make a company millions and millions of dollars but eventually the dream ended. I realized i was doing if for all the wrong reason basically only for the money. I use to spend almost 1 weekend every month traveling with my girlfriend and eating food i only dreamed about and seeing things most people will never see but, i started to realize that i hated Mondays, I would drive close to three hours round trip and not really get home until 8 or 9 pm every night just to wake up and do it all over again.
trading for me was always a big interest when i was young i revived a handful of stocks and bonds due to a death in the family and i always wanted to look up the ticker and see what was going on . Coming from a family who didn't know jack shit about finances that dream was always pushed away. Coming full cycle after highschool i started into stocks and forex it was always a dream to make it work and now i wake up and live that dream everyday. yeah i pay more for health insurance and don't blow money every month but monday is now my favorite day of the week because i get to do the greatest thing in the world( in my eyes) .
it comes down to your going to die some day don't do shit you don't enjoy

I said "I just don't understand how people smart enough to beat the market would not have a job they love and get well compensated for."
If I didn't love my job I would go do something else.
It is just my experience that people with these types of dreams tend to be on the young side and are not really thinking things completely through.
Most people from my experience in general suffer from this margaritas on the beach fallacy. If you could just quit your job and drink margaritas on the beach all day then everything would be perfect. That would be great for awhile until one day you wake up as an out of shape, depressed alcoholic on the beach.
For some of us the the phrase 'dream job' is an oxymoron. For me, as long as I answer to someone else and sell my time per hour - there will never be a 'dream job'. Of course, some jobs are better than others.
Trading is the vehicle which makes it possible to leave all this behind. Not only that, but if you're 'smart enough to beat the market', you wouldn't want to spend most of your hours doing something other than focusing on the market.
That said, many people do probably quit their jobs prematurely.
For most people the term "dream job" means doing what they like with minimal effort while getting paid a lot. It's sort of like in trading hoping for a high probability trade with minimum risk and a huge reward. Hah..haha...hahahahahahaha *wipes tear*.
