I totally agree with you about trading on live environment with real money during different market conditions. But for us discretionary traders unfortunately we do not have many options if we need to backtest and try some ideas so Market Replay is the best tool we have I would say.

Test what you can. Even if you are discretionary, you should be able to test quite a few setups, stop and target levels, etc.

What I see is many discretionary traders don't want to know the results of rigorous testing, so they use the excuse that their approach cannot be tested.

Market Replay could be useful for testing, but most people end up cheating with it.

Kevin I understand what you are saying, so how would you go about calculating an edge?

Test your strategy - does it yield positive results over a long period of time?

Say your idea is to buy the open if the close of yesterday is greater than close of 2 days ago. And you'll exit with X profit, or Y stop loss.

That can easily be tested, and you can see if that yields promising results.

Only one trade yesterday. I'm using a crude brokerage platform but it does the job more or less for what I do. I will most likely use my usual Sierra setup or MT4 but this is what we have now.

Also the size is very small so that I can test ideas in a live environment and see if even with this small size I can be consistent and follow a simple set of rules.

Trades:

Reversal - Trade was initiated above a prior SR zone after the market broke higher and pulled back. The exit was at the low of a range low. Stop was below the swing low, so RR was about one. I will look into it how can I see the ratio specifically.

I followed a few possible opportunities but only took this one today.

Trades:

SEL - off the EMA - Price broke the previous trend line, traded higher aggressively took the pull back, possible continuation trade off the EMA. R was 0.997 which is if fine, I wanted to have the target before the market tests new highs, if it does at all.
