Trade Open - Sell at 5727.5

Looks like the July Journal Comp ends today. If you think there's merit in my journaling during the month...please vote with your thanks.....thanks !

Have placed a sell at 10.15 based on two down bars at the 10.05 and 10.10 with a "normal volume pattern". Have placed at stop at 10 points and a target of 5692 and a timed exit of 1:05 based on my rules.

Closed at TP for a +35pt gain

Gain for the week is +82 points

Had three trades this week of +32, + 15 and +37. Missed Wednesday and Thursday due to other commitments.

(Note, the actual trade is on my MT4 platform with prices noted in the journal). I have been posting the trading view charts as it's easier to upload into the journal...but the exact levels may differ from my actual MT 4 trade)

The reason I picked my late entry signal at 10.35 was the 10am volume just wasn't there. The 10.05 and 10.10 volume bars were higher than the usual market open 10am bar. To me, this becomes a signal to delay my entry to my later set up (comparing the 10.25 bar to the 10.30 bar for a 10.30 entry).
We'll see how it goes.

Hi buddy,
I am a fellow SPI trader in Sydney. I am following your post's with interest. Well done on your strategy so far.
However, I hope you don't mind my making some minor observations -
The instrument you are trading is the FXCM cfd index product, it is not the real SPI futures contract. That is fine,
as you can trade smaller which is useful when testing etc but your analysis involves observing volume bars at the open. What I've observed, as I trade from the actual SPI futures AP U7-SFE contract, is the FXCM volume is wrong.
I will try to attach a chart, but the opening volume on a 5 min chart is closer to > 1000, not 200. Also, and perhaps because of this - your analysis above is inaccurate, the actual volume at 10:00 am was much higher than following bars. That would affect your decision making drastically. Anyway, I used to have a journal a few years ago, but my methods then were not working well enough and my money management poor. So I have taken a break, and getting back into things soon after much research etc
Look forward to sharing.....

Just to clarify the volume reported on IG PRT Aus200 cfd appear to align perfectly with the SPI data . fwiw

Hi Ozquant. Thanks for the email. Yes, I'm aware the CFD volumes provided by IG Markets is not representative of the actual Index volumes traded (note, i trade IG Markets via MT4 and was simply using TradingView which is FXCD cfd for easy of copying graphs to FIO). I noted this in a previous reply whereby I previously looked at the CFD volumes to actual index volumes and noted the relative differences eg 1000 actual to about 200 cfd, stayed somewhat consistent. Given this, my 200 volume trigger pre-market is a "line in the sand" i've drawn to trigger an early trade...despite knowing it doesn't reflect the actual volume. Hope this makes sense. When i move to trading actual index contracts, I know I'll need to adjust the volume trigger accordingly.

Cheers
Canozy

Hi Ozqant,

Happy to join in a SPI/ASX 200 discussion. My Little Aussie Battler journal reflects my trading approach...part time, pretty systematic, one trade per day average when i trade, not automated (but assume it could be). Anyone else out there trading the SPI/ASX 200?

Cheers
