Next week will be the last week of optimization, before TST. If anyone has any hints, tips or tricks to conquer the 50K challenge feel free to let me know! Otherwise see you guys on Monday!

Hi Dayzed, It looks like your losses are set at $1000?? You can only lose MAX $1000 so you might want to give yourself some room for slippage, execution error, etc. If you hit the daily loss they will shut you down and bust your combine.

Thanks

Danny

Good advice. And yea I didnt have the losses setup just was mainly looking at timing of trades throughout a full day. I will work on the code to get this to work. Worse comes to worse I will have to monitor that myself... which I want to try and avoid! Lol

I'm by no means an expert, and knowing very little about your actual strategy it's difficult to offer any meaningful input, but one comment you made kind of jumped out at me:

I halted trading and made some script adjustments since the bot was taking short positions where it shouldn't, and made it so the bot almost never shorts now.

Writing a mechanical trading strategy that "almost never shorts" probably works pretty well when you're in the midst of a huge bull market. Even a bot that simply buys at the open and sells at the close will show pretty consistent profitability when applied and/or backtested under such strong bull market conditions. Just don't be too surprised if the same strategy shows poor results when applied to different products or different market conditions.

Good luck with your efforts; I wish you continued profitability and look forward to seeing your progress here.

Thanks for commenting! All advice is welcome! I apologize for not being more specific on the strategy as it is still in development but it is very basic compared to others I have seen. I will release it once I am confident enough in it.

What you are saying is true the bot trades well in a bull market but the lack of shorts could be due to the fact that the signals aren't hitting which could be a good thing?? Haha I have since adjusted the short strategy either way and should backtest it in a bear environment. I will take that into consideration during my next optimization

LOL looks like your timing is off... Or maybe not.
You should have been here last week it was Mardi Gras.

But maybe you are like me... I don't go to the parades.

I see that you are into automated trading. I'm trading live automation as well. Just curious if you can code in Multicharts.NET.

My system is profitable. Let me know

Hey Hoang, automated trading is the only trading I want to do... Keeps emotions out of things. As for Multicharts I have not messed around with it, but it is definitely a platform I would be interested in learning more about. Give me a week and I can check it out. If you have used Ninja Trader before let me know and I would be glad to collab with you on either NT or MC. Shoot me a PM thanks for dropping by.

I guess we are like minded then. I'm glad I found you. Since I have no coding skill but have lot of idea, I think we can be great partner. MC.NET also use the .NET library so I imagine you can learn it fairly quickly.

Reason I use MC.NET is not because of the platform but I have account with AMP Futures and they have one of the lowest commission all around and their support is not terrible so that works for me. with AMP Futures you get the platform for free. and only $5 monthly for CME access.

I'm actually trading two accounts on 5 currency markets so that total 10 different trades all at once and gold fully automated. I previous partner that coded for me lost interested in trading futures so he left for trading options, so now he left with a completed code which I'm trading right now.

I do however have an uncorrelated strategy that work against my current system so if one go long, the other go short, but both makes money. This is not hedging, just a creative way to create diverse and uncorrelated strategy. That way they will control each other drawdown which what I was looking for a long time.

We all want that smooth equity curve and once I have the second system coded then we will know for sure 100%.

I used to manual trading the ES, NQ as well but it get just too emotional and time consuming and I lost a big chunk of money. But I now all for automation. It is the future!

It is the "future" no pun intended haha. And we will see if I can help you out. Most of my time is devoted to this bot. Not to mention coding an advanced strategy is quite time consuming! Ive spent hours and hours just scraping through the NT documentation to find the right calls I need to make in the code. If this system is profitable I probably wont see a need to code another system.. But we will see!
