Hello everyone! i have been mainly just reading and studying in this forum for about 7 months now and have been elite for about 6. I'm now 20 years old and have been interested in trading for a while but only recently began to trade for real if you consider a combine real. I currently trade the ES on a 50k combine using support and resistance with a few EMA's to get 1 to 2 points per trade with support behind resistance with a maximum 1.5 points of risk.

I feel that currently my main problems are psychological, and see why almost every webinar i see says psychology and self control are so important. i have come close to passing the combine multiple times only to find myself trading emotionally as i get closer. When plotting out my support and resistance and looking for entries as planned i end my day satisfied even if i ended the day with a loss, but some times for no reason i will begin risking way to much and gambling an entire weeks profit trying to win back the losses of 1 day. I always feel silly and question my self on these days thinking about how greedy i am in trading.

So i decided to finally make a journal, i've been following many peoples journals my self and even looking back at a lot of old ones, and everyone seems to say it helped them greatly with their own trading. I have a personal note book that i write in every day, but i think posting my thoughts trades online will be more efficient and keep me accountable for my mistakes.

TL;DR im making this journal to help me correct my bad habits

lost 2 trades in lower low high high lower low chop

took a few 2 point trade bouncing off the ema short and 2 1 point trades long predicting pull backs.
market is currently stalling under the 2130~ support zone as i expected today is actually a good day so far

i'm beginning to over trade guess ill stop for the day. took a final trade for 1 point profit was shooting for 2 but i saw some stalling and very large block trades on the T&S expecting a pull back. Could have ended the day at 500~ if i just sat on my hands and waited till after the chop and reversal was through, but oh whale i think i did okay other than that

Recap i traded with my plan to be short until 2130 predicting a telegraphed reversal and then catch a few trades long after the chop.

I followed the plan a bit, other than the trading in the reversal haha.

higher highs lower lows then higher highs always mess with my head. i expect a megaphone but then it continues its course and just ends up being noise

Did not trade much today, because i got a late start. i usually don't do much on fridays. made a few wins and losses but the big trade i saw was a short. I saw a double top banging against resistance and thought it would be a good few points. i expected it to stall at 2131 and 2128, but it went straight through with no resistance down to 2120. i could have held longer for 10 times the profit, but i'm not that confident yet haha.

oh well ended the day 112 small but better than a lose

i don't know why but i decided to trade a bit more because i saw "opportunities" even though i said i was done for the day and ended losing 5 trades in a row and i'm down 215. i am definitely done now.

AH 187.5 today gonna stop for real this time haha. Today was a very up and down day went from -75 to 225 down to -25 back up to 187.5. commission started stacking and net profit is 128.62. didn't make up last fridays loss, but i need to practice not letting other days/ previous trades effect how i trade NOW.

i expected a range got stopped on on a long by tiny pushes to the down side so changed my bias short. worked my way up 3 winning trades short but then lost everything when it reversed. After losing 3 stubborn trades short i switched long for 1.5 points than took my final trade short when i saw a double top pushing against the bollinger bands.

the large majority of my losses today were in the 2120-2121~ reversal area which is funny because i marked that off as a potentially strong support when i first started the day but lost it anyway haha.

well down 825 today right under my daily loss limit lost 12 trades in a row maybe. I need to stop scalping and begin learning how to swing trade. I've tried to stop scalping and begin swing trading before, but i just end up losing 80% of my days and things go horrible. Scalping is just what i assume most beginner traders start with. I feel like scalping just makes it much easier for me to over trade and begin trading PnL. i'm gonna stop scalping despite people telling me to keep trading for 1 or 2 points, i just feel no improvement.

trying to rebuild after yesterdays mess. Today seemed to just continue on lower. messed up a bit by trading longs. I have to remember to follow the trend. still trying to get used to letting trades run longer and fighting that urge to close trades early.
today was a mess for me still, but didnt lose too much

i have to remember

-follow the distinguished trend
-Define clear entries/ plans/ points of interest
-catch myself when getting impulsive and emotional.

I indirectly use forexfactory.com they are very reliable. I wrote an indicator for Ninjatrader 8 that parses and shows their news data on your chart. You can download it in the Elite download section.

combine works only with specific version of NT8 beta, I think it was beta 12.
It doesn't work with latest release candidate, which was number 2 (RC2).
They are hoping it will work for final release of NT8 which is scheduled for later this month.

looking to trade well today. Not let my emotions make mistakes and follow my rules and loss limit

Market currently seems to be in a reversal zone and is pottential getting ready to fall.

Plan is to trade pulls back short today until it reaches an support in the high 2080

keeping an eye on volume and checking larger time frames for a bigger picture.

I did end the day 97.72 positive but i didnt get there by being a good trader. i started the day saying i wanted to trade well, but i ended up trading larger contracts and looking to win back losses.

The things i know i need to work on now.

-I am very stubborn and when my plan does not work i keep trading it anyway and accumulate multiple losses within the same direction.
i must learn to reevaluate the market after every trade instead of seeing the market from just my early predictions.

-Control my risk use a smaller stop loss and pick better entries i have to be patient and enter trades when i can see the setup instead of entering in expectation of a setup.

- learn to let a trade go if i don't see enough proof.

On a side not im wonder if i should trade a different instrument with smaller tick sizes to get used to risk control so i wont be so emotionally attached to my trades. i do only trade 1 contract at a time but even still

As is my strategy is a 4 tick stop loss with entry on a clear pull back to EMAs using up down volume, time and sales, and larger time frames to reinforce my desicions. looking for 2 point targets or more depending on measured moves and support levels.

What i want to work on first:
i feel that what makes me go into an impulsive unclear trading attitude is less about losing money but more about how quickly i lose. if i lose 4 trades over a few hours i will call it a day and just come back tommorrow but if i lose 4 trades within the first 30 minutes then i almost always get into revenge trading.

Steps i want to take are to space out my trades and be more patient with picking and choosing my entries
and plan b if i do lose too much quickly remind myself to quit anyway because if i lose that quickly im not in the right head space and i should quit now and save myself some time and stress.

gasp the markeet did end up coming down to the high 80s for support and stalled just as i thought

but i think the most important part of predictions is not whats going to happen but when and how fast

just another point proving that i am still young and impatient.

Very volatile market today. i went from being up 2 trades to giving it all back in a matter of minutes think ima try to avoid today.

as for charts it just seems its just trading a range but the range seems to have a a lot of random movements. a potential reversal after all these bear days?

Looking at the ten minute chart alone it looks pretty crazy but looking at the tick chart it looks a lot more clear. its trading mainly in a range but slowing jumping up to new support resistance zones.

i started the day off pretty good with two two point trades right away . but shortly after i got caught in some chop. My target would get touched but not filled then immediately reversed to stop me out a few times or i would get a stop under a lower low or higher high get hit only to have it go back into my intended direction.
I was getting into a revenge trade mood but was able to catch my self rexamine the charts a bit and get 4 decent trades in a row to end the day with 100 dollars.

a few mistakes i made were trying to win back losers not sitting out when i saw volatility and noise.

constantly entering trades rather than picking in choosing.

increasing my size and scaling in when i told myself i will just stick to single contracts.

A few good things i did.

actually the only good thing i did was to catch my self revenge trading take a breath and make modest trades with good signals.

below is a picture of my ten minute chart, and i circled the trade areas i participated in on my tick chart

almost forgot to post today. i refreshed everything last night and came to see a huge gap, probably due to the clinton fbi release. i wanna say the market may go back down soon but i am unsure. Will try to trade small and potential stop early today because of uncertainty. this entire week may be crazy with elections and all

wow this is the most text book trend day ive experienced so far haha. goes up hits resistance pulls back breaks resistance goes up and repeat. market just keeps going up and pulling back into the ema. just took a few longs should have held for a big move but got 112.50 profit today. im beginning to get into a cocky mood and i'm also worried about a reversal haha should stop and just watch now.

ah i really wish i was confident enough to hold trades. I only got 3 points out of this large move up. I see resistance and i get out. wonder if anyone has any tips to practice swing trading how can i estimate how far a move is going to be? is swing trading more consistant and less stressful like ive heard some people say. or is it just the type of trader i am.

OH man last night was crazy i wont even bother posting a chart it was just a giant line down and then a even bigger line back up. i was debating if i should trade or night in the volatility, and i was surprisingly nervous and stressed out. At first i wasn't thinking straight and got whipsawed until i realized i should really increase my risk and reward to make up for this volatility. so i won back my losses with a 10 point trade putting me at 200 positive and walked away. At that my point my commission was also 200 dollars. i should increased my risj and reward sooner and just took my original 2140 entry down to the limit. after trump won the election i took a position long near the limit and closed the trade at 18 points and went to bed at around 4 am. it was an exciting experience to trade the volatility properly. during brexit i blew up my combine

Hello! I ended today early i built up a huge commission and decided to call it quits at 250 profit. Im having adapt to this new volatility. Im about half way through my combine just need to keep it up and focus on preservation. I ended at around 11:00 am est but im posting now because i left the house and forgot.

I currently see a lot bigger range and support and resistance seems to be a lot weaker. My plan is to play around a large risk reward to come out profitable. Hoepfully i learned something from brrxit to get through this whole election fed announcement rate hike madness.

as it is friday and i don't trade as much i just put in 1 trade on a seemingly strong support in a range and called it a day at 4 points. i didn't even have to draw any trend lines cause i drew these the other day day things just worked very well

bad day today. negative 412.50 it did exactly what i thought it would do bounce in a range and then break lower. but i never got a good entry and was too hesitant to enter the ones i saw i was gonna quit at negative 200 but then i tried to win it back which was very stupid.

Im a beginner trader and a stubborn person. not a good combination lol. I am at a point now where when i am trading well i constantly ask my self questions, is this trade worth the risk, whats the market doing, how much pressure is on the up/down side, is my stop in a safe position without having an overly large risk, should i get out of this trade because the time or movements are not what i anticipated, should i cut my losses. i think that is what FT 71 always talks about in terms of conscious competence stage 3? My biggest weakness today was that i let myself fall back into an impulsive gambling trader who became oblivious to what i saw right in front of me. i started off the day with 2 winning trades and 1 loss and i was standing at 112 pnl, but i quickly gave it all back. As i started to lose my methodology and ,y careful habits ive spent so long building begin to fade away and i become more and more reckless. I begin to trade my PnL saying i can make it back just one more trade if i lose i'm done one more and im done one more and im done. then i walk away come back and i am disgusted by what just happened. X.X BUT i am still a beginner trader and i feel i am still getting better and better. before i made this journal it was even worse even though i was recording my days in my own personal journal. i use to just blow up my account in a single hour haha. Now looking on the bright side im glad that the worst of me will only take out 2 days of trader rather than my entire combine. this is a long post and there is a lack of grammar or proper spacing but id like to say thanks to the futures.io bmt community i don't post much and i am still new but i spend so much time browsing the forums reading journals even reading journals from 3 years ago haha and all the webinars and market commentary that i see is a great help and the elite membership is probably the best money ive spent since i started trading.

wow todays an early day for me i cant really find an advantage today and after yesterday i just wanna put in a small good day. i ended up 187 -30 for commission. i could have held and made a decent profit, but im not experienced enough for holding trades haha. Whenever i feel pressured to get out early it continues, but whenever i sit on my hands and let it run it comes back and stops me out. Today seeemed pretty simple with a channel higher off of my largest EMA but hindsight is always 20/20 right?

looking at my trade report. i i seem to have an average loser thats 40-50% larger than my average winner. this probably explains why my down days are so much larger than my up days. i was aware of the situation so i increased my targets. I find it hard to tackle this problem so any tips would be welcome as always . i originally increased my targets and tried to go for pickier trades but the market seems to go against me after 1-1.5 points and very rarely goes up higher before it hits my stop loss. i usually have my stop loss at a constant 1.5 points, and trying to reduce it just ended up with me constantly getting stopped out. The only solution i can seem to find is 1. find better trades or 2. enter a few ticks further against my intended target to compensate for my reduced stop loss. note to self pay more focus more on entry and stop placement.

So today is my first day back into trading and i caught a cold from the family haha. it wasn't really the best day today. I saw the market was in a slow up trend crawl over the holidays. I came in this morning trying to think of it as any other monday. i looked at support resistance saw presssure up and down. i saw a range forming from 7:30 to 10:20 ish EST i threw in some small trades to feel the market and managed to catch the support level for 2.5 points long at the 2201.50 level. i've been losing more trades than winning today so i'm gonna call it a day and not risk giving back to the market.

I managed to avoid the temptation of trading out of boredom and waiting for clearer entries. which is a plus

i also was able to call it quits when normally i would over trade.

below are my charts and a trade report from TST. Slowly but surely.

did something dumb today came in expecting a range for the first hour or two, but ended up trying to scaled into a big short and lost 450. im definitely not ready for it. This time though it wasn't so much emotional trading just me trying to get a swing trade instead of a scalp i suppose. i'm going to go back and stick with my original method as much as i despise it haha.

i shorted on the 50 ema thinking the bear pressurue would return, but i was wrong and lost on a 4.5 point stop on two contracts.

i was told to contain my losers and i tend to do well. but the idea of getting bigger winners makes me release my losers and all hell breaks loose

When you blow up a couple of accounts you will realize that that behaviour is detrimental to your trading career.

my major problem i've seen is that my average winning days are about 229 but my average losing days seem to be 400. i've been trying to fix this but cant't seem to find a good solution. the only thing i can see my self doing is setting my daily loss limit 200. unless i can some how increase my winning days which seems highly unlikely.

ps. i'm very dumb kidding not kidding

well looking at my trade report idk how i didnt notice it before but ive rarely dipped below (only 1 time)-158 in PnL on my winning days. whenever i went lower than 158 i usualy never came out of negative and ended the day losing 400+. so my solution is pretty much just stopping at negative 158- negative 200 -.-

Hi Ash - Another thing I noticed on your losing days, the number of trades/contracts is much larger than on your winning days. So having a stopping point in terms of $ should help cut down on the number of trades on the losing days which I think will be helpful. I wonder on the losing days if you are trying to 'get back to even' which leads to more trade attempts, but on winning days you are quitting for the day while you are ahead (protecting your profits).

Thanks for taking time to share your combine/trading experiences with us here in your Journal.

i think i may also be able ot increase my profits if i just learn when to hold and when to get out. i currently notice that when i leave on target (2 pointss usually) the market will continue on much further, but when i get out it usually turns and goes against me.

Helllo! i enjoy posting here keeps me more accountable having everything out in the public haha. thanks for visiting my journal. i know no one else thats into trading so its nice to have content and conversations on futures io.

Yes it is true on my loss days i tend to lose confidence the more i lose and become more indecisive as trades going on and end up trying to break even and end up just losing more. on winning days i usually just walk away when it hits lunch time and i fear i may give back if i stay longer.

wass negative 600 today. i have a few more days before i have to start a new combine cause im confident im gonna lose some more haha. i said i was gonna stick to a daily loss limit but i didn't. to summarize today i just lost to the lower low higher high higher low lower high lower low higher high lower low lower high higher high. every new high and low stopped me out today. i saw a mega phone pattern forming low so i positioned for a decent move up but it turned around at break even. its so discouraging to upload during these down days.

it'ss been a week. some unexpected things happened and i have not been able to trade. i also forgot to post this morning. i kept trying to short the market today off the EMA's and i made 2 points at first then quickly lost it all until i hit negative 280. i would have stopped for the day there but i also knew if i stopped my account would have hit draw down due to my losing streak last time i traded so i decided to give into the bulls and trade long when i saw the break higher to the 2013 support level. and took 8 points woohoo im safe for now haha. feels good to be back

ps does anyone know what correlated to that up move it was crazy! and it also saved my ass. i could have held longer and just reached my target but i exited out of fear of a reversal lol

forgot to post yesterday was busy with some website stuff. Yesterday i only took a small trade for 2 points and ended at 112. Today i just rode this up trend up and up and up. got a 2 contract trade for 3 points followed by a loss for 1.5 points and then a small move up for 1.

I had this urge to fight the trend telling my self "its gotta reverse theres no way this can keep going up." but i reminded myself to trade with the trend until i lose and thats when it will reverse. i dont know how many times i kept trading expecting a reversal only to be at my loss limit when the move actually reversed lol.

Since i came back to trading i think ive been pretty good about my strategies. i trade what i see and catch myself wanting to gamble on reversals. i watch my risk and only take 2-4 trades a day regardless of how much i won or lost.
i attached my current trade report. my Max draw down is at 49699 and im not even close to getting back to where i was but this combine has lasted longer than any other combine Ive had so im proud of that haha.

Welp i lost my account today. This current trading combine was the best i've ever had lasted the longest learned the most and was the first combine i put on a futures io journal. I gambled a 5 point move at the end of the day hoping to make the remaining 2500 for my combine target, but unfortunately it stopped me down to my max draw down "49,660" and hit my daily loss limit shortly after. i originaly lost a few trying to go long expecting continuation lost a bunch made it back when i went with the bears but my final big 2500 trade ended up being a big flop haha.

I'm not mad or upset at all though. I didn't lose my account or make such a big gamble because of revenge trading or emotional bias. Due to some recent events ii just unfortunately cannot afford the monthly bill for my combine and canceled the cycle anyway. So i thought it better to at least try to make something happen rather than do nothing and lose my account anyway.

My final chart for this combine is posted below and seems to be a range thats breaking into a bear trend!

Like i said this last combine was the best i've had ever and i hope i will return soon but until then i probably wont be posting much on this thread. Thanks to everyone for responding and reading!
