Hi all,

let me introduce myself: I am new to trading (approximate 1 y). After a bad crash in my account a few years ago, I studied a lot of trading literature, webinars, seminars and trial-and-error paper trading. Now I thought I should give it a serious try again. And that post convinced me finally starting this journal:

futures.io (formerly BMT) Blog: So, you want to trade, huh? Really? Seriously?

So, please give me a chance. I need a lot to learn.
But I want to get started now.

The daily preparation for my trading is doing an analysis for the markets.
It contains:
  1. the long, medium and short term trends
  2. Support and resistance levels
  3. Possible Exits and Entries

I'm not sure about this, but basically I intend to use Position Sizing as follows:
  1. doing nothing (unsure)
  2. small (about 1/2 of the normal size)
  3. normal (standard)
  4. large (about 1.5 of the normal size)
f.ex. (2) small if the first Entry Signal didn't work or trends are pointing in different directions

I plan to increase the standard Pos. Size as trading results improve

For me trading gets difficult when I "see" my account value (money).
I try not to pay attention to the money value.

As soon as I look at the $$$ I get scared and strategies wont work for me, because I could loose it.

DAX:

Limit Buy S1 (5840) was in between 08:00 and 09:00 preMarket so I didnt trade that one.
Possible entry here again will not work.

In the DAX I have to wait for the R1 (5994) or the top mark R3 (6114) for action. But probably there my trade direction will change to long. So DAX in between 5840 and 6114 will be range trading. Better no trading.

Next possibility is the Limit Buy at 5780.

BUND:

like in DAX - maybe no trades here too. range.

Longterm: 3-4 weeks

High: 6273
Low: 5605

Short: We are short until 6114 will break upside.

Longterm 2 weeks

High: 6114
Low: 5605

Long: Until 5840 will break downside.

==> that makes me nervous. better not trading here for me.

Cool, I just read that artilce from "The Kirk Report" about uncertainty. Thats exactly what matters me in the DAX (BUND) today. I am uncertain. For me that results in not trading this day.

The Kirk Report : Learn To Love Uncertainty

Probably through my "Game Plan" (thats my long/meduin/short-term analysis) I am prepared for trading each day.

Nice to see your back

Can you tell me, did the free iPad / $600 tablet contest motivate you to restart your journal? I'd like to know so I can keep track of which contests work the best.

Thx

From seeing the 20 new journals and the more frequent updates, then I would say your program is definitely working!

Now its time for preparation of the afternoon session (german time)

Lessons learn from this morning: my stops were a few ticks to close, and I pushed the stop too fast to break even.
I have to give it more time
  • maximum risk: per trade $200, max $600 for the day
  • my psychological and physical state: still feeling good
  • my goal for the day, that I try to achieve: I only want to enter a trade when the situation is clear
DAX and FESX were looking strong this morning, Bund Future a bit week, turning aroung the open.

  • Performance: small profit, one trade worked out very well ( Opening Strategy ES)
  • I have to give the trades a little bit more time to develop and don't set the stop too early on break even.

I got out BE. no good day.

I should have listened to myself this morning, when I had a doubt (in whatever)

  • my psychological and physical state: I'm feeling very well, but I have a doubt, I don't know what it is
  • my goal for the day: that I try to achieve: I want to wait for clear situations, and finding good stop positions

  • Performance: losses over losses
  • lots of bad luck today, I missed one good run which could have made my day, then only loosers and BEs
But thats how trading works, you cannot win every day.
  • For next week: I should listen to myself, when in doubt, either trade only 1 contract (half position) or dont trade at all

have a great weekend everybody

I decided not to trade today, and I think it was a good decision. I couldnt feel what the market was doing, and my signals were completly wrong.

I acted against my rules today - I wanted to buy the support and sell the resistance...
instead, I bought a breakout and got stopped out.

  • maximum risk: per trade $300, max $800 for the day, max 2 contracts
  • my psychological and physical state: I am feeling well, prepared for the trading day, today again there is lots of distraction going on
  • my goal for the day: only trading if I can concentrate/focus on the charts, I want to focus on the S/R levels, if the situation is clear on these points

I made one mistake and traded against my rules for today. I wanted to sell the resistance and buy the support, but I traded a breakout. (Afraid of missing a move...) and got stopped out, well that part is ok.

FGBL:
S/R were quite visible and prices stopped at each support.

FESX:
a little bit confusing, up and down moves, no direction

ES:
after the strong down move yesterday, very quiet today
hit clearly some S/R levels

6E:
made a new TOP for the period.

Lessons learned: I have to stick to my S/R levels and try not to enter breackout trades, since I have no statistics collected for breakouts

Finally I have ended my testing period. This week I have been testing the slow stoch indicator. With no great results.
I finally cleaned all my charts again, now again almost naked.

What I have learned from this, there is no indicator that is showing in a secret direction. I have all information in the price charts. Taking f.ex. several Slow Stochastic indicator for diversion, I can see the same reversal in the price. One thing it helped me I have to admit is that using indicators, they are giving me signals. By looking at the prices I have to give the signals to myself. But thats just a learning period until I notice these signals.
