Welcome to futures.io.

Welcome, Guest!

This forum was established to help traders (especially futures traders) by openly sharing indicators, strategies, methods, trading journals and discussing the psychology of trading.

We are fundamentally different than most other trading forums:
  • We work extremely hard to keep things positive on our forums.
  • We do not tolerate rude behavior, trolling, or vendor advertising in posts.
  • We firmly believe in openness and encourage sharing. The holy grail is within you, it is not something tangible you can download.
  • We expect our members to participate and become a part of the community. Help yourself by helping others.

It is. I was about to ask you to send your chart over PM :-)

Now that we still have today fresh in our minds, I have a few questions if you donīt mind

At some point (probably when price made the first higher low after LOD) you mentioned in the spoos that today might be a range day. I understand your decision to flip your full position, because price made a powerful move up at that time. However, if you were expecting a range day at the time of your flip, why did you only take 1/4th off at S1? I would expect taking more off at S1.

At what point did you assume it might be a trend day? I assume when price broke through S1?

Suppose it would have turned out to be a range day and price made a HOD at S1.
At what moment would you have closed your remaining long position? I assume when price would make a lower high or lower low? Or when price moves below VWAP?

Good questions!! Haha- notice I said 1/4+ ? I was unsure how much to take off- was leaning towards half but I just knew we could fill the gap with those strong RVOL readings. Fwiw- I was a little " worried" all day having dipped below y_low early ( I don't like when that happens) but we never even hit +1SD after lunch and that strong RVOL reading with occasional tick spikes with strong price follow through kept me in)

Assumed trend day on first 1000 print move to S1- it felt "real" and held 1SD on retrace ( really should have pressed or done a rinse repeat but I was still questioning if we could go the distance).

Ididnt want to dip below the OR low once we made C_Up. Not only because of the logical trader method but also because old resistance = new support.

Also- see where I sold just one after we came close to gap fill but failed twice- I likely would have tanked it all if the pullback went much further- I was "concerned". I think that's all my thoughts-

Thanks.
Very helpful for me to know what you were thinking.

I notice you actively look at the SD bands. It feels like this is a missing piece of the puzzle that was laying in front of me all the time but I could not find it.

Oct 14th prep

Market overview (9.30 am / 15.30 CET)
- Asia, up 0.4-0.8%
- Europe, up 1.5-1.8%
- Oil, up 0.5%
- Gold, down 0.3%
- Bonds, down 10/32.

Overall sentiment is positive.
Slightly positive news released this morning. Several other news releases today, of which Yellen speaking at 12.30 (18.30 CET).

Important price levels
- 2146-47. Weekly PP and R2
- 2105-2107. Strong multi-month support level

Overnight made a higher high just below yesterdays high, then pulled back. Upon the opening, the ONH got taken out.
Opening gap of 10 points

Iím expecting a day with an upward direction.
Not sure if it will be a trend day up or a range day above yesterdayís close.
Iíll be watching the SD bands closely

Anyway, Iíll be looking for longs initially.
Iíll probably quit trading before Yellen speaks.

My goals for today are to stay longer in the trades (trade directionally) and to monitor the SD bands.

They aren't giving you much to watch today!!!

*** Keep in mind with that flat IB and all the volume traded in it, VWAP will be pulled up/down more slowly so a retrace to 1SD becomes harder after a breakout- this concept being documented here and in the following posts

I'm just riding my remains and playing with CL (RVOL tells me I don't want to take shots and destroy a killer basis on a Friday when I am supposed to be relaxing the rest of the year)

Smiling yet?

I took 1 off, have 2 positions open.
I'm concerned about the $tick divergence, so I'm likely closing one.
