Stagnation. The POC from the last 30 days matches the POC from the last 5 days... to the tick!

I've been long for real since Oct. 16. I've more than made up for recent loses.

This trade is from one of my systematic systems. It will hold until either the market strength is extremely strong, in which case it will go flat... or, more likely, will reverse to be short when the long is no longer valid. It's in the market more than it's out.

I've turned my attention back to programming trading systems. I'm also taking some discretionary swing trades and doing alright with them.

Sorry but I don't have it there right now.

Please, can you make it for NI7 or TOS? Please, it really look like some promising results for the ES. In my view, it makes sense that if the vix goes down, ES goes up because there is less perceived risk.

Stop trying to "solve" the market by testing out indicator combinations. Waste of time for everyone.

I stopped trading stocks years ago in favor of the ES. It was a good decision. One of the reasons I stopped was because of a lack of reliability in stock price prediction. The most troubling losses stemmed from poor executive management at the companies I was buying and sometimes outright fraud.

For some reason, after years of absence from stock trading, last night decided to dust off my old stock portfolio trading systems and try again with a small allocation.

Today my first long position was filled for Straight Path Communications ( STRP ). Just last week it was trading near $50 and I picked it up for a bargain at around $23 Ė 50% off the high!

Within minutes of my re-entry into the wonderful world of stock trading my 1st position plummeted. I lost almost 50% within a few hours. The position is 1/10 of the portfolio, so in portfolio terms itís only 5%. That loss can be made up for but I just canít stand the feeling that comes with getting burned like this.

The company is being accused of fraud:

Straight Path sinks 41.4% on new report alleging fraud - Straight Path Communications Inc. (NYSEMKT:STRP) | Seeking Alpha

If you trade stock itís only a matter of time that something like this will happen to you. There are all kinds of ways to lose money in markets, but this is the worst and is good reason to stay away from stock.

Same thing happened to me a few times. It helped me learn the lesson of portfolio diversification.

I still believe that when it comes to new traders, they should be trading equity ETF's like SPY, and swing trading them -- not day trading them -- and not trading futures with their increased leverage.

With SPY, what you described won't happen. This is true of most ETF's.

i shorted here on crude selling and ZN bottoming. Although at the moment crude is rallying off that sell point and making me rethink. Sticking with it for now.

I moved my target to be near and was filled for 2 ticks. I'm now looking to trade a choppy day around the d-vwap because I see crude leading the ES and it's been choppy.

The short didn't work. Probably not the best place to reverse to be long... right at yesterday's high.

Flat now break even on the long. I don't know what to make of a stalling of the rally at yesterday's high. I would prefer a pullback to it to get long. I don't want to short at it because it's counter trend to the rally on the longer term.
EDIT: Well I got out too soon. At least my autotrading system knows what to do: hold long! Making money with them as usual.

I don't understand how the ES can rally while crude sinks to near 40.

short here on market depth imbalance. 5 levels of DOM depth show consistent supply of 3000 contracts under vs 2000 over. My theory here is the supply will lure in institutional sellers.

I don't' expect the market depth to remain at this ratio nor will I react to the market depth changing to a different ratio. The steady decline since the HOD has me looking to the short side and this is just a reason to pull the trigger.

I like the target of yesterday's cash session High and stop at today's high.

Made some $ this morning ( forgot to post real time ). I went long at the open because I thought that the market was oversold on the news of Turkey shooting down the Russian plane. Seems to me that "contained" events like this often create a market fade. I exited near pior day RTH low. These guesses worked this time.

long UPRO 66.93 and 67.1. Using UPRO as an alternative to the SPY.
I'm going against my trading system ( it flipped short ) because I think it's wrong about this trade. But I'm only taking a small risk and leaving the cash for other systems I have in case they signal. I have a pretty good record of following my systematic systems but occasionally will not. This is one such occasion. It's mostly a seasonality influenced decision to be long. Since I do not have a good track record for discretionary trading I'm expressing my uncertainty with a small allocation using UPRO.

Still long on Swing2 account ( 2081.75 )and real accounts ( 2086 ). Entered long on DayTrade2 account here 2089.25. RE: 6J, 6E. I admit I don't fully understand the relationships. Something to do with "carry trade". Investors seeking safety invest in Japanese interest baring instruments and to do so must buy Yen. The risk on move is the opposite and consequently the selling of Yen foretells buying elsewhere... most likely US equities.

However the yield on the Japanese 10 year gov. bond has been decreasing steadily and is currently only point 3 percent. Maybe it's the trend of the yield that attracts short term traders. There is less worry that the principle of the bond will fall under them while they're parked there.

My read on these markets is mixed and consequently I'm looking for a choppy day today. I'm more inclined to the long side for a couple of reasons. 1- My autotrading trend following system is long for good reason... the trend is up. 2. Seasonality.

Resting orders on what I see as the "edges" of trade. I won't be able to monitor the markets today. These orders will send 24 tick targets and 48 tick stops if executed. ( I didn't put much thought into where they would end up on the chart... probably should ) I will adjust if I get the chance. See next post for screenshot...

Filled on a the short. Markets down't look "mixed" anymore. Lesson is that resting an order far away from price based on current situation is not a good idea. Things change quickly. It looks more like a trend up day now.

Not long after... a turn of events. The selling has been blamed on a PMR of 48.6... manufacturing contraction ( < 50 ) and was expected to read 50.5.

Looking for 99.50. Reason: that's the high area on daily trend up.

Moved my target near and was filled. I lost confidence in the rally after watching volume on the DOM. Any reason I can find to justify the comfort of exiting with a couple of ticks profit.

Swing2 trading is working alright. I wanted to capture some statistics now in case I wipe the Ninja database clean ( as is sometimes needed unfortunately ).
5k profit since end of sept. ( about 2 months )

Trading around the POC on this Yellen choppy day. fading the move down created by the EIA crude report that showed inventories rise by 1.2m barrels. These weekly reports are notoriously noisy.

looking to scalp long 5 ticks below ONL
EDIT: I've moved my order lower. Selling has been even and methodical. Not good for a bounce play. I look lower...

I had closed the short. On Swing2. Entered long on Swing2 and on DayTrade2 now that Yellen speech is over.

EDIT: Yellen is speaking and her prepared notes have been released.

Going back for more ticks on the over confidence I'm building on just 2 successful trades in a row, the confirmation bias of a rising market on the Yellen speech and just plain addition to being in the market.

Out 8 tick loss. Accepted it as appropriate punishment for the reasons I entered. Is this a game or a way to make a living? I have to decide.

Really hosed myself on that overnight trade. Just reversed but I have a feeling that it's ow the bottom because that's just what happens to me... by the time I figure out I was wrong I would start to be right.

EDIT:
Trading ETH is outside of my "current" rules for day trading.
I think I handled the exit well. I didn't have access to my computer until about 9:30 am. I figured out what was going on with the ECB disappointing with it's bond purchasing program and exited at a loss. This saved further losses ( this time! )

And so I reversed again now to outthink this situation. ha ha ha.

EDIT:
This is where the real foolishness of my trading day begins...

Been away from my computer 1/2 the day. Left the one lot open long. Obviously a disaster. On this most recent push down looking to scalp a few ticks to the ups side before trying to find a way to get short.

EDIT:
I've made some really good counter scalp trading but not this time. I was successful when I used the DOM. I didn't use it for this. Also, I didn't use the same technique. On the DOM I looked for a thrust past the LOD or fade a bounce off the LOD. On this trade I just clicked the buy button on ChartTrader w/out doing those things.

A little difficult to read. Most of the trades I made were long and wrong. As my account is near blowing up I stopped using the rules and just kind of went a little crazy trying to save it. No value in doing that. It's just a number in the computer. I'm better off having failed using this "method".

I remember considering shorting that rally at around 11:30. I think I was hoping for a reversal up because I'm long on my real trend following swing system. I didn't want to believe in the market going down while I was long elsewhere. That conflict is something I wrestle with and will be on my list of things to work on.

long while driving! looks like risk on
EDIT. I got long but would have been better off leaving my stop (~2064) in place to get long. The market has been very volatile and maybe getting into a position on a stop order is okay in this environment. Today it certainly proved to be the case.

Some overhead resistance here. P-Day cash high. 30 day VPOC and w-VWAP all converging in same area. Need to see my 86s again where I'm still holding long from days ago. Slow and steadily climbing. I think it will go through like butter.

Starte4d to think about scalping in this area but don't think I can: Reasons: one I only want to go to the long isde on this major trend up day. 2. The aformentioned resistence. I probably should have throught about shorting it on first arrival to this area. Too late.

DayTrade2 Account:
The market was kind to me on 12/4. I was looking for longs most of the day and it would have been hard to miss gains. That said, I'm happy with my analysis, decision making and execution for the day.

I'm viewing price action on the DOM. I see a subtle change. Instead of an ebb and flow to the down side it's jumping around in one spot. Sometimes skipping some price levels quickly. At the same time crude is catching a small bid. This could be the bottom.

A stabalizing pattern forming here. All while crude continues to slide. Could the weak hands holding equity in crude stocks be finished selling?

EDIT: If it sounds like a bad idea it probably is!
EDIT2: Haven't traded above the D-vwap all RTH day! Why should now be any different! Will probably exit soon.
