I had thought there might be profit taking at the end of the day. Naive of me to decide anything. Could have been profit taking. Could have been short covering ( although I doubt that more based on the methodical nature of the rof this extended rally ). Bottom line just keep positioned in the direction of the trend. Follow my rules damn it!

Euro dollar reversal. I don't know why. Other than that markets generally have been supportive of a continuation of ES rally. I'm holding my short swing position.

No angle of entry for a long.
Sitting on my hands and taking the pain on my swing short.

looking for a few short points on DayTrade2.
My reason for it is the rally paused and dropped to a level of "support" that I'm betting won't be the ultimate support before the rally can continue. I'm using the 5 day rolling volume ladder to id the target.

Ugh! DayTrade. Nothing I can do but let it breath. I have to step away for about an hour. This stop and target is the best I could come up with... other than just exit and go flat.... but that feels too much like giving up to me.

Added 2nd half. avg 67.25. Looking to break even by chance because reasonable targets make it that way.

I flipped long on DayTrade2. I just don't see the market weakening.
That said, I'm still holding a real short position on a swing trade basis. Not looking good for that but I can't cover that on a rally... I have to wait for weakness no matter how many days it takes. Hate sitting on a loser but it's the only way to handle it.

Clearly I was early/wrong on this short. But rom this level I'm encouraged that there will be resistence going higher. No matter, the short stays until there's selling.

I haven't seen more than 2 ticks profit all day! Let's see if I can make some to the long side....
Still short on my real accounts for multi-session swing trade. If the price we're at now is what I end up covering at it will suck but it won't be the end of the world.

overnight session found support at the vwap.
Oil is rallying.
Will wait for cash session to be established before deciding if this is a chippy day or continuation of the 2 day trend higher.
First 5 day winning streak of the year for the S&P. Top of the range established after the August plummet.
What does it mean? To me, a break above yesterday's high will cause me concern about the a short bias on swing trades. However I like the 200 day ma to use as a discriminator and it's still under that.

Still sucking wind on my short. The system that guided me to it has an excellent record. I should listen to it's advice and put on another half size but I'm playing conservative due to increased volatility.
I'm finding that running my systems is harder than it used to be for me now that I'm concurrently trading discretionary. The two activities are influencing each other. I would prefer total isolation.

A look at cash session volume profile from yesterday reveals two high volume nodes close together. If we do get a choppy day I'll use these to help place stops and targets. If we get the continuation I'm expecting then I'll look for a pullbck to the top node. If we get a reversal then I'll look for pullups to a vwap ( weekly more preferably ).

Revised thesis from continutation long to choppy day.... entered long at yesterday higher volume node.
Edit. My big mistake. that's not yesterday's higher volume node. It's the vwap. Oh well. mistakes happen.

Target is now 78.25 ( unlike the screen shot ).

Closed. For good or bad reasons to be decided: My automated day trading system entered about where I did ( after ... I didn't know it was going to ). Then it exited for profit. I know it's statistically a good trade so I followed it. While I don't want to correlate my discretionary trading with my systematic trading, perhaps if they happen to overlap it would be wise to listen to the ystem.

dunno if this is a good idea. it's a newish idea. I identified high/low volume nodes on the wider area time frame and found an area where if price moves to I would expect a little further movement. Sell stop in place.

The Euro Dollar strength is a weaker USD against all currencies ( including the currency of crude oil ). That explains these markets and it's a continuation of the story that fueled the Friday and Monday. The S&P did not continue with it. Are buyers exhausted... that's clear the question is will they remain exhausted for the next 24 to 72 hours? ( my avg time frame for my swing trad short ). Without this currency catalyst they will need another reason. I don't know where that reason would come from. Could be earnings. Officially that starts Oct. 8 with Alcoa.

Took a while but the order finally filled. The good thing about a breakout type trade is the stop can be tight... or so we all guess.
going for lunch. I'll just assume everything will go as planned....

exited both lots. My initial setup had a target of the previous day high volume node identfied by the blue line. My inclination was to exit a one lot there but I am trying to learn to add to my winners. So far I haven't been doing well with that.

Another example of impatience leaving money on the table. Probably not to be out done by examples of holding too long and failing to capture profit. Discerning one situation from another is something I MUST learn.

Mistakes today! Last short trade I threw down was not very far outside the high volume node that I marked. It was close enough to be considered a test of it. In fact the market has sloshed around inside the two high volumen nodes ( I marked with blue lines ) all day. At least I did my homework correctly... but I failed to execute the plan.
The prior trade could have been a beigger one lot winner than thte 2 lot if I had just used the volume node as a target.

Again, monday morning quarter backing. If these trades I made worked out I would not be reflecting on these decisions as mistakes. And I have to wonder if the decisions I made would in fact provide an edge if I did them over an d over.. and only just had some bad luck today. No matter, I have no choice but to consider them mistakes and go from there.

overnight Euro Dollar is choppy. Presently somewhere in the middle of it's range on USD weakness
overnight crude continued to rally but is not ebbing just a bit.
overnight 10 year treasuries tested yesterday's lows and is now putting in a bottom.
ES premarket is just peeking out above yesterday's consolidation and prior day high volume nodes.
Putting it all together: I'm looking for a choppy day.

I started thinking about the short positions on my real accounts and started to feel some pain there. I'm deep underwater. On a fresh push higher, In a flash I convinced myself that the market is going to continue straight up. I entered long on this DayTrade2 sim account and started thinking about reversing my real trade. That's when I stopped myself. I reversed this sim trade. I'm now short on that. If I look hard enough I can find a reason to be short but that would be fooling myself. I can't find a reason within my established "homework". As I write the market pulled back to the vwap and I exited. I should probably re-enter long now.

Expecting choppy day: overnight session down a little.
I've made some changes on my trading chart:
Got rid of adxvma
yesterday's open
Added 2 more volume ladders.
I marked some low volume nodes.
This is RTH

I'm flat. Very slow market. Edit: "I will try to fade moves back to this area."... scratch that. I don't think I can succeed with that.

Interesting that the premarket took out the RTH low volume area I marked.

flat again. hate this market.
Edit. No follow through on the break out. No break down in the few minutes after. No clue about direction.
Fed minutes day the problem?

All right. I'll play the bouncing ball game...
Every trade is a coin flip. The difference with this one is we know that at 2pmEST the Fed minutes come out. That will definitely cause this pattern to end. Personally I'm betting against my instinct... I think that once the event is behind us the fear of the unknown will be removed and risk appetite will increase. Why am I betting the other way? Because I don't trust myself right now.

Puked my real $$ short swing trades. This rally is tooo strong. I lost 56 points per contract plus shares of spxu. That hurt. I've had no luck this year. I had some setups that wanted to be short ( I went with them ) and one that wanted to be long. I chose the wrong one!

That's been my problem over the last 6 months. One system went into a drawdown ( taking my money with it ). The other systems that I had stopped using did great and they have a better long term track record. After I lost money using the system in drawdown I decided to play it conservative and go back to the higher probability system. Just at the wrong time!

On top of losing a lot of money my confidence is shaken. I couldn't hold onto the trade until the end and I've always been able to do so. It's a very important part of swing trading. Exiting when the price is most attractive or reached the end of it's run is the wrong time to exit. Loses are reduced by waiting for price to come back to entry.

But the rally is really confounding me. I got short Sunday night on ES and Monday morning on spxu after the strong Friday rally. The Monday rally really surprised me. It did also worry me because there was no retracement in the price action on Friday or Monday. That kind of buying pressure struck fear in me that I've been dealing with all week.

I underestimated the worst case scenario and risk. Really how can anyone assess the risk if anything can happen?

I don't know where to go from here. I have to think about stopping for a while.

Dude you aren't the only one. I feel ya and if you are like me, you'll go over your mistakes and learn from them. This is where most people give up. Somehow I wonder how I keep coming back for more, but for some reason I always find myself playing with the charts the next day. Keep trucking man, let's fail our way to success.

Edit: Not happy with this position either. Not happy in, not happy out. To deal with this I've exited and place a limit order far enough above where if filled I *think* I can tolerate heat up to near ATH.
My thinking now is that there's no real volume above on the volume ladder. All transactions where during the August plummet. Therefore there are few that got into position at these levels on thoughtful consideration. In fact it's unlikely there are many holders who remain if they had bought during that sell off. In short price could rise quickly back to 2050 area. I'm not betting that's happening ( not going long ) but a fast move to that level would boost my confidence to re-short.
I feel like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This is Mr. Hyde right now... the one screwing with everything. Dr. Jekyll just runs the systems.

Correlated markets show ES should be down more than it is. Not sure why but it's causing me to look for a continuation of yesterday's selling.

A pattern wishing long speculation...
edit: I closed the trade for a one tick loss after the market didn't move fast enough to satisfy me that I was correct. Then the market moved up and took out what would have been my target. Humph!

fyi. broke even on the previous trade. I had added one lot and then subsequently moved my target to break even. see markers on chart. 2nd entry price is hidden by 1st entry down arrow marker.
Another straight up market. I've been ignoring trading since that last trade.

Not much overnight action. Markets are quiet after yesterday's rally. I'm looking for choppy day today. I'll try to trade at the edges back to the VPOC or POC.
