I can't see any reversal bars on your better renko chart........do you purposely have this feature turned off?

Jeff
No. I am using Sierra Charts Enhanced Renko. Their bars do not display like the NinjaTrader better Renko bars in that the candles are not full length, but the wicks do go the required distance. The reversal bar just has a long wick.

I do have a NinjaTrader setup that uses the same inputs as the SC setup, but it does not have the different colors on the CCI and CCI signal line. My laptop is a dual boot machine (Windows XP and Ubuntu) but this week a Windows update screwed up somehow and now the machine will not boot into Windows (the dreaded blue screen of death appears just after the Windows logo appears and tells me Windows detected an error and shutdown to protect the computer and that the error has to do with a driver). In the past I would have had to reformat the hard drive and reload everything, along with losing all data; providentially, the ability to use SC on Linux was made available a few weeks back, so all I have on the laptop is SC. I can run NT on my desktop, though I prefer the laptop (hence my desire to get to one chart for trading).

Sorry to be so long winded.

My focus is on:
1. Avoid the opening chop.
2. Honor stops
3. Ensure reward > risk on all trades

one question is SMA and CCI have different scale, do you have any suggestions?

I am afraid I don't understand the question. Are you asking if the CCI signal line has a different scale than the CCI? Please clarify.

No, it is not a bad question, I just did not understand. But CCI and signal line are on the same scale. The signal line is just a 10 period SMA of the CCI, so it would plot on the same scale as the CCI.

No trading this week. My daughter and 2 more grandkids came in last night, so I am a little distracted this week. I have found it best to not to trade when things are like this.

Hope everyone trades well.

I doubt I will be able to trade again this week. My wife and daughter went to Tennessee to house hunt for the daughter's family, but I have 2 of her children here. I am enjoying the break. The market is not going anywhere....

Well my daughter and her husband put in an offer on a house in Tennessee and the deal is in progress. In the meantime, her family came to our place Thursday night, so we have 6 extra folks in house for a couple of weeks I guess.

In other news, I had a mishap on my laptop Windows harddrive a couple of weeks ago that resulted in a blue screen of death (I think an update was happening and the machine went into hibernation or something...anyway when I tried to wake it up, it refused, so I rebooted and some drivers went crazy). I put in a new harddrive (twice the size of the old one with 7200 rpm and 16meg of cache). Reloaded Windows XP (yep, I am still in the dark ages trying not to give Redmond too much income)...anyway the laptop runs much better than before. I have not decided whether or not to put Ubuntu on the machine. Then last night, my desktop monitor played out. Just plain went dark. I guess after 4 years of near continuous use, it was time to replace it anyway.

In spite of those distractions, I did 2 trades this morning and then quit. Both were successful. I used the 4 and 10 betterRenko method that I have discussed before.

My trading will be sporadic at best for the next several weeks, but will update when I can. The time away has been good for reflecting on why my progress on my self-discipline issues has been so slow (and in fact, suffered some setbacks). If I could fix me, no make that WHEN I fix me, I will be a happy camper.

1. Avoid the opening chop.

I took a 5 min setup per mwinfrey's 5 min odyssey about 8:55 but it was a 12 tick loser. I took 3 other trades later, one a 5 min CL setup and 2 4 better Renko CCI setups. Ended up positive on the day. My money management was not very good as I took a lot of heat on the second trade; that was the big issue today. The other trades worked as planned.

Not sure if I will be able to trade anymore this week. A good friend's mom passed away Friday night and her funeral is tomorrow. Then this morning my wife's cousin's husband passed away; he was a good friend to us through the years, so we will be away for his services. Additionally, we are hoping to take a short family vacation at the end of the week. It will be my wife's and mine 39th anniversary. So trading will probably take a back seat for the rest of the week.

Hope all of you whip the markets.

Still not back to trading yet....every now and then I sneak a peek at the market and may even try a sim trade or two.....not sure when I can resume my regular schedule. Things are settling down a bit, so I might trade some this week.

But the point of this post is to pass on an unplanned event I had. During our mini vacation, we used a friend's jet ski's. I went to the local marina to fill up on fuel. Well, if you know the saying "the stupid shall be punished", you will not be surprised at what happened. I just slipped my wallet in my swimming suit pocket instead of putting it in one of the compartments on the jet ski. Guess what was missing when I went back to the lake house where we were staying.....I was able to call the bank about my credit and debit cards. North Carolina has an online way to replace your driver's license, but you must know your driver's license number; fortunately I had that from a scan I had made for a trading account application. Fairly easy time ordering replacement cards for medical and dental insurance. The hardest card to replace is going to be my retired military ID; you need two photo IDs for that. My only photo IDs are at the bottom of the lake (I hope).

Anyway, it would be a good idea to do an exercise of what information would you need to replace all the cards and stuff in your wallet. Do you have the phone numbers, policy numbers, etc? I got some of those numbers from my wife's cards and others from online. It seems to me to be a good idea to have an emergency list stored in a safe place for when such an event occurs....but of course it won't happen to you....It only happens to someone else.

In this case, I was the stupid one....

Good trading to all
