Hello Everyone! Welcome to my @TopstepTrader Combine.

Me -
I've been trading for years. Never had a winning year. I've blown out my futures account about 7 times - if there is a club for doing that, I'm in it.

Change -
Up until the last few years I've been winging it and losing my ass off. I've changed my mind set - designed a profitable trading system that I've done every kind of Back/Forward test possible. Most importantly, completely changed my mindset to trust the charts and myself. But I'm still weak - I over trade.

Usage-
Today is the first day I'm applying it in realtime with something other than a 'sim' account - this new trading system and mindset(I stress this because it's so important).

Since I a big fan of TopStep and they give some sense of accountability without blowing too much of my own money during development, I've used them to develop all my Trading Systems over the last year or so. I've gone though ~10 building this system. However, the combines have been a dream come true. And without the help of this forum and the brilliant market technicians and programmers, it would not be possible to have designed a system I finally believe will change my trading future..we shall see. Ok, just wanted to give a tiny backstory, on to the good stuff.

Strategy BG-
Grab Strong reversals but mostly trade the trend.

Instrument-
CL

Platform-
NT7

Combines-
30K, 50K, 100K (They are in a single account group and I try to stay within the params of the 30K) This helps me reduce my risk and prevents over trading. But will not stick to this 100%. Will add to 50K and 100K positions when necessary.

Chart/BarType -
RJay renkospectrum ( brilliant by the way ) RenkoSpectrum | NinjaTrader Bar Chart By RJay

Chart Time Frames
Renko setting 10003, 7002, 6001 (look it up - and you'll see from the charts)

Indicators For the Charts -

PriceActionSwingPro - @dorschden - a godsend

LaguerreRSI Multi timeframe Oscillator using xavMTFv1SlopeAlerts_10Plots (amazing work @Xav1029)

Polarized Fractal Efficiency Multi timeframe Oscillator

Herrick Payoff Index with LaguerreRSI oscillator w/ Fisher Transforms. <br>
My idea with this based on well known indicators. Kinda still working this idea out, interesting slopes on both. The green line is the LaguerreRSI weirdly normalized. I put in a lot of filtering options for the Blue Line the HPI - and the VWMA works gives the best inverse signal. And since we can't use Open Interest in realtime from a NT object - had to design my own version that's about 85% predicable output as using actual DT OI. You can opt out and use Open Close values. Will attach in a couple days. Herrick Payoff Index - Technical Analysis from A to Z just to see what the hell I'm talking about.

MAMA -http://www.mesasoftware.com/Papers/MAMA.pdf

d9ParticleOscillator_V3 -love it @TheWizard

Fisher Transform of Stochastic Oscillator thanks @Zondor You rock in so many ways.

anaCurrentDayVWAPV42 VWAP
@Fat Tails is the man I've used pretty much every indicator you've made at some point. Hands down, the best out there.

and I think that's it.

- Signal Engine
To keep it brief for now. I've designed a data capture system similar to @gomi's brilliant engine(And BarBar). It's not the same, but the closest idea I've seen on the forum. The whole thing is built into the PriceActionSwing indicator. I use MongoDb to capture Tick, Indicator and Statistical MTF data. I also query it for my signals and pretty much all my data. Just to give me a level of abstraction from NT. The signal arrows for each chart come from this datastore.(this i'll get into in a later post as well as it's quite complex - for peeps who are not software developers)

The main 3 Charts that I look at for real signals are the 7002 and 6001. Here are the charts. One is marked up with signal info.

My Job:
When I get a programatic signal (I'll get into the nuts and bolts of this in a later post) I check the charts for -
1. Intuitive Price Action (HH, LH ect..)
2. d9 Slope and Value
3. LagRSI Slope and Value
4. PFE Slope and Value
5. HPI Slope
6. Regular and Hidden divergence in a few indicators where it works best! - crap - didn't post my Div Check chart. Will tomorrow or in a little bit.
7. CCI Chart

NOTE: if the MTF versions of the above are sloping and not deviating, this is a great signal confirmation.

I'm going to leave it there and just wait for specific questions. But todays performance was not optimal, but it worked.

Largest Time Frame

Main Signals 1 Renko 7-2

Main Signals 2 Renko 6-1

CCI Confirmation

Combine Values from NT

Combine 50K

Combine 30K

There are a lot of vagaries here for brevity, so please start a discussion with me and I'll reveal all.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi traderlange

Congratulations on your combine and best of luck. Your charts look very good although I don't understand much but I am very curious about mindset change. Can you elaborate more about mindset changes whenever you get chance, no hurries. Cheers.

Hi traderlange

Congratulations on your combine and best of luck. Your charts look very good although I don't understand much but I am very curious about mindset change. Can you elaborate more about mindset changes whenever you get chance, no hurries. Cheers.

Thank you sir! I'm still working though my "mindset", but basically, I didn't trust myself or my code enough. I didn't realize when I made a trading error, and held onto losses to long or pulled out of a good one to early . or I didn't accept the fact that I should do a reversal (rare!), but did today for my best gain.

Basically, it boils down to confidence in my system and myself. Since it's not fully automated, I must analyze each signal so there lies ares of subjectivity that will train me to make better decisions. I'm not there 100% (can i ever be? no), but I'm learning to make a decision based solely on my system and rules, and trust it!

I must know that I'm never going to catch a top or a bottom, only take the highest success probability trades and let the trade play out. I'm programming some trails into the chart trader that will help, but for now, I want to make all my own entry/exit decisions manually (with the suggestions of my code).

I'll automate everything later (like I usually trade), but I have to learn to be a manual trader with discipline, period. That is my goal.

Today was not a great example of the above, yes, I was able to profit, but I got out of my winners early and missed some really good signals.

I hope this was helpful and not just a stream of consciousness? We'll see how the next 10 days play out!!

I'll get into much more detail regarding the charts, each indicator and the engine that drives the signals, but I can only type so much in a day. lol.

Cheers Mate and I hope your days are full of kick ass trading!

Thanks for taking time to reply. You have a great potential for success because you did know for sure which area you need improvement and you are working on it.

Wow..today was kind of a cluster for me.

Note to self: Don't manually trade 3 combines at once.I'm not sure what I was thinking , but it confused the hell out of me; even with the account groups. I got flustered and made some early mistakes. Also, trying to manage 3 does not help my tendency to overtrade - as what happened today.

Solution: I'm going to fully automate the 50K combine. And only trade the 30K 10Day and 100K Continuous manually. For the 30K I'm going to trade the CL (exclusively) 9AM 12PM CST. For the 100K, I'm going to trade the GC from 3AM CST - 9AM CST and piggyback the CL trades. There may be some overlap depending on setups.

That being said - here are my charts for the day. I mostly traded the GC on the 100K. Was up a G then gave back $100 about 5 min ago trading against the trend like an idiot - so I'm DONE for the day.

I've made notes all over the charts - I hope they make sense. Also, I'm included a chart on how I sometimes play/confirm GC signals using simple arbitrage on the DX/GC pair.

Enjoy!

7-2 Tick Renko

6-1 Tick Renko

GC DX 10Min Pair

NT PL

I'll upload the combine reports when they're avail later tonight. If you have any questions write me back on this forum and I'll reply asap! Hope your trading day went well!

Cheers,

Mike

good trading @traderlange. You have nice chunk of profit and that's all matter. All you need is repeat these again. Have a great trading.

Today was great trading day. Netted around $1800. Earned $1230 Automated for the 50K combine- not bad for day one. And $580 manually for the 30K combine - 3 days in and <250 away from goal. If I remain consistent I should be able to pass all three over the next 7 days.

It's Cool New(updated from @alexJetski's code) Chart Trader Tool Day!!

The original source was an elite download, and my Journal is not in the elite section, so I'm posting the attachment here. Is that cool @Big Mike? While I do use it with my live trading, I'm hesitant to upload it to the downloads yet as I feel it's still in beta.

This is the original Brilliant work @alexJetski.

However, @alexJetski check it out, if you like the enhancements, feel free to upload it as an update. I commented out the L2 label - but feel free to add it back and make any changes you want if you version update. Again, you built a great framework. I plan on adding a lot more exit strategies now that there is a Trail/Slope/Trend exit framework in place.

This is the same indicator, but I've added:

NEW EXITS/TRAILS
1. SuperTrend trailing stop fully parametrized. Using @Fat Tails
2. Adaptive Laguerre Filter Trend Stop. If you have a file called "AdaptiveLF" replace it with the one attached or replace on the import.
3. Zero-Lagging Heiken-Ashi TEMA SlopeChange Exit
4. Profit and Loss exits. Set the dollar amount and let er rip.
5. Added tooltips for the exit parameters and some buttons
6. Have the Option to use a Hilbert Transformation for look back period values for the Adaptive Laguerre Filter Trend Stop & Zero-Lagging Heiken-Ashi TEMA SlopeChange Exit

Make sure AT interface is enabled. ALSO, while I use this in my trading, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSSES DUE TO THIS INDICATOR IN ANY WAY. Make sure you full get the hang of using it SIM and fully test for ALL bugs. (although I've done a lot of testing) trade at your own risk!!

Enjoy!!

Whelp, I hit the profit target on the 30K 4 days in. Gonna keep today's post short. I'm happy, and certainly a confidence builder, but I have six more days (well, a lifetime!) of consistency to keep up. Focus focus focus Mike!

Good job, just keep an eye on the 55% winning rate. Hate to have 6 down days and blow it because of that.

Thank you @tturner86! Oh, I'm not claiming victory yet, but i plan on trading like normal. Perhaps with a bit more caution, but I'm just going to continue to remain focused, undistracted, and patient.

Cheers!

Keep it up, Live Trader Preparation - Or get funded in once is coming. Don't forget. They like to see to keep it for real in the last 6 days. More consistency they see during this 6 days, more chance to you can skip the Live Trader Preparation

Good trading week.

30K Combine Chart - made a early mistake but recovered +190 today / +1760 for the week

50K Combine Charts +700 for the day- Had to restart yesterday. Made some dumb mistakes (automated strategy) and hit my loss limit - price moved to hard and fast (jumped) even though I have limits coded in. Gonna play this one manually - like I'm doing with the 30K combine.

Have a great weekend!!

Mike

Thanks @matevisky! today was a good day. And you said it, not going to change a thing. I don't mind if i have to do the Live Trader Preparation, but naturally it would be awesome to be able to skip. But I'm not even thinking about that. lol.. only focusing on my trading, limiting my losses, maximizing gains and preserving capital are my only priorities. have a great weekend!

I'm posting this here because I'm working it into my trading strategy and it's definitely still in beta, as it may be all wrong. I'll move it to the Downloads when it's good to go.

I was chatting with a trading buddie today and he was explaining to me some some great uses for the ADX w/ Di+-, so I thought I'd do an experiment and "Laguerre" it with an optional Fisher Transformation on the adx/di+-. And here is the result.

Laguerre Directional Movement - [Description from the built in indicator] This is the same indicator as the ADX, with the addition of the two directional movement indicators +DI and -DI. +DI and -DI measure upward and downward momentum. A buy signal is generated when +DI crosses -DI to the upside. A sell signal is generated when -DI crosses +DI to the downside. But now its Laguerre-ized with optional Fisher Transformations for exacerbated -DI/+DI signals.

Let me know if it's useful?

Oh, disregard any arrows in the charts below, those have nothing to do with this indicator.

Comparison without the FisherTransform

Comparison with the FisherTransform The transform greatly increases the visual range of the DM+- during big moves. I would like to only apply the FT to the DM+ and DM- but since the FT normalizes to a tight range (visually making it un-useful unless applied to all dataseries'), I've applied the FT to the ADX as well. I'm going to normalize the ADX without applying the FT to it. Just haven't gotten there. If anyone want to take a stab at that, be my guest.

Enjoy.

No sir, I'm not a customer and don't know them, I just thought their charts looked similar and was wondering if you used a similar approach. Maybe they poached some futures.io (formerly BMT) indies and sell them as their own. Not sure, but it seems to happen a lot.

No sir, I'm not a customer and don't know them, I just thought their charts looked similar and was wondering if you used a similar approach. Maybe they poached some futures.io (formerly BMT) indies and sell them as their own. Not sure, but it seems to happen a lot.

Oh I can imagine about the poaching - I bet it does happen all the time. There is some really good coders here. Shit, futures.io (formerly BMT) has been a life saver for me. The only indicator in my set up that I've purchased are the renko bars. Every else is from the awesome community here, or my own derivative of their work. Cheers mate.

Disobeyed all my rules today and over traded w/ tight stops. I didn't trade my system and worried about p&l something I told myself i would never do. Took a $470 loss so now i'm < that the profit target with 3 days left to trade. Not the end of the world, as we all have bad days, but it's just frustrating. My nerves were a bit shot as I'm so close to a successful combine and traded erratically. Sounds counter intuitive, but if you're not focused in your head - shut off your computer, there will always be another day.

But - I have to suck it up, learn from today, know that bad days happen and move on from it. Will be back tomorrow with a more positive journal entry.

Cheers,

Mike

Gathered my wits today and make a couple good trades. Only two trading days left in this combine. As long as I stay cool and collected, I'll be fine.

This week has not been my best trading week. But somehow I managed to keep my head above water. I'm still on track to hit all my goals and profit target with one day left.

I'm going to finish Monday strong and finally be done with this.

Then one of two things are going to happen.

1. Move onto the next step in getting funded OR
2. Deposit 30K into my brokerage account

This combine madness is getting to me. It's been an amazing tool , but the anticipation of possibly trading without using my own capital is wonderful and a curse at the same time. And honestly, my own "permanent" capital may be the best route to go anyway.

Notice the first week - or up until I hit the profit target a few days in, I was trading great. How I should be trading. How I know I can trade day in and day out - and manually trading the whole time nonetheless! [any bit of success I've had in the past is from automating my strategies - math, statistics and software engineering are what I know I know..lol. I just have to prove to myself that I can look at setups and manually pull the trigger. It's very important to me.]

Then just to maintain that balance, I got into the wrong mindset this week, my nerves have been shot and I don't like it. I feel like more is at stake then even trading my own capital. Even though I know it's not, but I've somehow convinced myself it is and that shows in my trading. Ahh - the human brain, so fickle.

I'm not complaining, just saying how I feel at the end of this week. Topstep is wonderful and without their tools, I would not be where I am today regarding my career as a professional day trader. I no longer wonder if I'm going to be successful at this. I know I am from this point forward. It's taken a while, but I'm finally here. And for that I'm extremely grateful.

I'm just ready to move forward.

SO, I'm going to have a great day Monday and no longer worry about being funded. It's going to happen this time, or I'm funding myself. The outcome is going to be brilliant regardless.

Have a great weekend!!

The combine stuff seems like a high-school exam. Once the exam is over the student chucks his satchel and gets back into the life which he has missed! What if you treated it as a regular thing you have to do everyday? Would that reduce the stress?

I do that - I am not even close to the target, but I do not stress myself up because I want to be in this for the long haul and not burnout by simply passing a combine (which at this point, to me, seems a non-event.). Hence, congratulations and keep doing what you have done so far, and make your new successes a new baseline. Fool your brain by being super-honest with it!

Congrats!

"and make your new successes a new baseline" is so spot on. It's a simple concept with profound implications when heeded. It's how to progress. Thanks iqgod.

I've pushed myself to achieve my entire life. Not because I was ever forced to, but because In my 38 years to date, I've come to realize I can do whatever I choose because "success and achievement" are ultimately decided by me. its usually in line with collective thought, but not always and never internally judged by that. When I set a goal, it becomes religion. Then I'm in for the long haul, regardless. trading included. ive been at it for about 10 years now - it's going be my retirement. That's a joke as I'll never "retire" since I don't separate work from life. It's all just life to me. Albeit, scheduled at times.

I've read somewhere I should separate life from work. But with so many choices in life already, that's one I choose not to make. And truly, I don't understand the difference enough. I've worked my entire life. Life is work on it's own. I'm just grateful to be.

However, I have moments of self pity regardless of how far I've come at anything. This in turn causes a little stress. But all and all I always try to keep a positive outlook and dig deep to make sure I'm truly enjoying the process of whatever goal is at hand (as a whole). And that I am.

I took things a bit serious last week, but only in breif moments and only in the moment. If you know me personally you'll argue serious is not in my psyche! Lol. But it certainly is.

And I agree more than you can imagine-I've been fooling my brain my entire life! Sometimes to my detriment, but 98% of the time, honestly and to mine (and others) benefit.

I appreciate the words of wisdom - just what I needed. Thanks again and have a wonderful weekend!

I think you are completely on the right track. Don't think too much, don't change anything.

My advice is primarily to eliminate stress.

BTW, I read with interest about your qualities - I'm 38 too and am a lot like you in many aspects!

Does anyone know if you can trade FDAX once you are funded and complete 10 days of live trading? In the website it says, once you complete 10 days of live trading then ICE and EUREX products are available to be traded? Pls confirm if you know anything to this regard. Thanks.

FDAX is not available in the Combine. Once you are funded you have the datastream of FDAX and you can trade it.
This was the answer I got from TST 5 months ago.

Hi Autotrader. This will make you sick, but here is how it played out. Winning combine, day 10 up twice the required target, every rule enforced. Ok I've got it. Just close a trade and end this nonsense.

Launched my server and retired to the restroom. The the following events are so unlikely, it's like telling the Proctologist that you just slipped on the floor and whoops.. NT opens up to the main UI, nothings open there is nothing to trigger a trade. EXEMPT hot keys tied to quant strategies I was testing at the time. I come back to the computer and this little guy

is lying on the keyboard. I pick him up and notice a strategy is active. As everyone know, Ninjatrader is NOT the platform to run real strategies, as they, regardless of the setting, will fill historical triggers time to time. So bub bought me some oil and triggered my daily loss limit of, I think it was $500.

So, yes I'm trading my own capital. And just bought a new F-Type! That's my little bro in the passenger seat.

Although I make my living as a software engineer, my trading covers the payment. Full disclosure, my mom took that picture. I do NOT subscribe to common held philosophy nice stuff = success. That word in and of itself is so subjective, add it to a myopic view point and you get a turd that stains the ignorant. hahah. Life make me laugh. 20 years ago, that was me.

i digress, I'm doing well without the pressure of having a fund looking over my shoulder. like @iqgod said earlier in this thread, it's like high school.

But, I'm not going to lie, I still want to "get" funded. So, two years later, today actually, just started a 100K combine that will mirror my personal trades. Freeing up ~100K would be nice.

But I've got a whole new mindset to this trading thing. I don't stress. I follow very simple rules and basically trade the tape. My only concrete rule is to gut of trades that do not move how and more importantly WHEN you expected it too. The stall is the markets only "tell" I've found so far.

So now just trade how I want to. I don't blog about it (like I'm blatantly contradicting by writing this), journal, post charts, talk about it like I'm some financial guru because i can make an educated guess. It's like writing about every time you made a right turn today while driving because is was that or running it a tree. don't need to write a dissertation every time we make a mistake. But it was a fun way to learn constraints. TS did wonders for my trading skill.

But I'm just a guy who is a calculated gambler. Along with every other trader. And now enjoy it. However, since I mentioned it, I will post in 10 days the resuls of my grab at the 100K.

Cheers!!
