About two months ago I was introduced to day trading index futures by a friend that has 17+ years experience as a stock broker, active day trader and system builder/trainer. He was gracious enough to begin training me and letting me use his system to trade.

I have been trading off and on in Sim for the last month. I was ready to start trading live today, but I was having issues with my AMP account, so I couldn’t trade my account.

I decided to trade SIM while I was doing some other desk work.

The system I am using gave a signal for a major short wave at 9:01 PDT. I waited for the trigger to enter.

I caught a Major entry short on the NQ at about 9:16 PDT. Went short at 3579.50 two contracts. Set my stops on the impulse filter and waited for the trade to develop. Since we were at the start of the lunch hour in NYC, I expected this one to take a while before something happened. I got the scalp off at 3576.75 for 2.75 points and $55.00 at 10:20. I let the runner go.

The rest of the trade took bit to run its course. I finally exited at 10:50 am, at 3562.25, for a total of 17.25 points and $345.00 on the runner.

Entered with one contract on the #2 signal of the same wave at 3557.5. Didn’t really have high hopes for this trade as the wave was extended and the day looked like it was going to go sideways. Set my stop on the impulse filter line and let it develop. It was only 3.75 points to go for a lower low where I could move my stop even, so it was worth the risk.

The trade hit a lower low, so I was able to move my stop to almost even. The wave rotated on me before another entry and I was stopped out with 1 tick and $5.00. Missed another 8.25 points before the close. Those are the breaks.

NET: $405.00 not including commissions

Not a bad trade, since this was a trade I would have taken live.

TF Trade:

I am not ready to trade the Russell live for quite some time yet. It is a great index to trade in sim though because it can still pucker you up pretty good even though it is not real money.

I entered a short position at 10:57 at 1108.1 with one contract. On the TF I would only trade one contract anyway, so this would be good practice. The entry was a normal entry, not a major, so I was looking for about 20 ticks or so. I set my stop on the impulse filter and let it rip.

A new low was hit, so I moved my stop to even to protect the trade. The trade was up about $300 + before it came almost back to even before giving another entry signal. I stuck with that rotation and let it continue down. I had to exit at 1106.4 because of an interruption.

NET: 17 ticks and $170.00

Executions:

Performance:

Overall mood:

I was pleased with my discipline on the trades I entered. I can honestly say I would have entered both of the NQ trades if I was trading live. The TF trade was fun, even though I will not trade it with real dollars yet.

I just found out that I can't post the images for the trades. I will post them after I have the required post count.

I had a ninja trader meltdown and lost the transactions from my first diary entry until now. The net results from that period were mixed. Had several good days and then got hammered by the chop a few days. My losses outpaced my gains during this time.

I missed the rally on 5/23. Could have made up my losses with this day, but didn’t participate.

With the afterhours trading trending up over the three day weekend, I am looking for this long to hold together so I can make up some of my losses from last Thursday. Hopefully I will get a little cooperation.

NQ Live

#1
I entered long on signal #4 at 3693.25. The wave looks extended, even though it was from after hours, so I exited at 3698.75 for 5.5 points.

#2
I entered long on signal #5 at 3697.00. Wave is still extended so I am looking to get out the minute it shows weakness or slowing. Exited at 3704.00 for 7 points.

#3
Entered on signal #6 at 3704.50. Wave was still extended so I am not giving this much room. Ended up exiting early for a $50.00 loss at 3702. Had to leave the office and I didn’t want the trade running without me. Wish I could have held it longer because it finally started moving at 10:44 and ran up for what would have been a 17.25 point move.

TF

Watched the TF today. I really wish I had enough in my account to trade this symbol. There were two entry signals today for a total of 9 points. Would have been a great day instead of just ok.

Overall, it was a good day. I’m just a little upset that I couldn’t stick in the last NQ trade until the close.

Well, what started off as a great morning turned into a mildly disappointing day.

I was up $440 early. I missed a major tf short at the open because my signal came about 15 mins before the open. I was able to scalp a few entries and exits before that wave played out.

Then, after the big moves were mostly over, I gave it all back plus $145 in the chop that followed.

My biggest problem, other than over trading, was the distractions from family in the morning. I wish the open was later in the day for my time zone, but I need to work with what I have.

I will have more detailed information for the trades on 10/2 .

My head is clearer today and it should be a good day.

10/2/14 - 6:03am PDT

My charts are showing the NQ has rotated to an upward trend. Maybe we can get a setup for a short squeeze later today.

TF is still in a bearish mood, but trending up a little. The open will tell if we are going to test 1069 or yesterday was enough of a curb stomping.

Can’t go it to too much detail about today. It was too crazy to record anything while it was happening.

I took some brutal stops early and was down $900.00. It took everything I was worth to bring it back to a $50.00 loss for the day.

I will look at exactly what happened and try to see where I went wrong early.

Bill

Time to backup and re-think what I am doing wrong. Bad day with losses.

When I look at the first couple of trades, it was easy to see what went wrong. I wasn’t watching close enough and my stops were getting ticked out and then they went on to run up for good gains. I need to give it a little more room on good entries.

My other issue was entering trades too early. Then they would go quite a bit against me before they got back to even. Better to not take a trade than to enter too early.

Bill
