J's Trading Journal

Hey all,

I am a member here from the start and i must make a confession i have never posted anything .. ever before .. that was because i was busy trying to find something that would make my trading better and better .. i have gone thru lots and lots of trading system some commercial and some free ... some of my frnds knw how bad i was sticking with one system .. i always had that need to change it after every few weeks .. but after taking losses and break even for almost few months . i have came to conclusion that simple is better .. now for last 5months i have been trading with Price action and simple setups . and have been successful.. anyways i have some issues in my trading to resolve .. i cant seem to go for more profit targets then what i have already planned for my trading in live account .. in sim its completely different story i can get points whenever i want .. so hopefully starting this journal will help me solve my issues .. Hopefully ..

My trading plan

Accnt capital : 15,000$

Instruments to be traded :- Crude

Max drawdawn in a day :- 300$ or 2% thats 30tick

Profit Target Per day :- 300$ or 2%

Win/Loss ration on daily basis :- 80-20

Lots to be traded :- 1 Lot

I am not trading live accnt from 11th december so all my charts for from now till 8th jan will be of sim trades which i practice ..

My trading method

Time Frame :- 5mins, 30min[When 5min is messy]
Indicators :- 34 ma, Fractals, pivots, macdBb [it jst sits there have been using it from start so just cant seem to delete it]

Trades are only taken in direction of trends i an no counter trend trader .. i am happy following the trend on 5mins price action is important so is the 34 ma .. Thats all Simple Trading...

Hope it helps ... anyways happy trading have fun

-Jinhar

Jinhar,

Congrats on the journal, and congrats on being on the right path.

I am concerned that you are new and yet want to trade oil, it is really an extremely dangerous market. My other concern is that you are going to trade just 1 contract, it's actually much harder to be profitable with 1 contract than with 2. However, if you are still searching for your path or are not yet profitable, trading 2 cars can inflict damage at an alarming rate.

You may wish to solicit other opinions, but my recommendation is to trade 2 contracts with two separate targets, and move your stop to or near break even on the 2nd target after the 1st target is filled, then resist temptation to take short profits and allow the 2nd target to get you a sizable piece of the action -- for CL, that is normally about 30-50 ticks in 5 minutes or less.

Mike

Out of curiosity, are you using MC for charts and NT for orders, or TS for orders?

Hey Mike,

I have traded Es Dax Gold Es and Fx and finally came to trading oil .. this account i have just set aside for Cl trading ... you are right its dangerous but i am trading it for few months now and finally have made a different account just for trading oil... Over last 5 months i am having a nice run and my bad days end at 30ticks. never more then that and winners i do get runners sometimes but after that trade i stop trading it .. i will add 2 cars just need my accnt to reach 20k 1st money management at this time doesn't allow me to do that .. i still trade dax and snp on daily basis on diff account .. but this journal is just for crude trades .. I use MC for my charts and i use Cqgtrader for placing my trades ..

Got lucky :D

Hey all,

I said i got lucky because before i took the trade price action was to choppy .. i took the trade on the break of the trendline and break of prev support ... Price was below my ma and rest all was simple stops were placed above the candle high of the ma ... it was a 17 pip stop .. netted 45 pips from this trade .. i decided to call quits as just price action did not intrest me much .. which backfired on me as later on we got a nice short setup .. but any ways no complain ..!!

Thanks

Best Regards
Jinhar

Some nice trades with longer term in mind

Hey all,

I must admit i was no fan of 5min charts for crude i use them on Forex but never on crude .. as i am on demo i started trading it on 5min and its a beautiful combination ... Price follow the longer term trade .. its just matter of sticking with Trends and your trading plan.. Dont forget money management .. Netted 100 ticks on crude today ... Its just a demo but for someone who is used to trading ticks.. its a big step forward .. Thanks

Best Regards

Last Trades for this year .. !!!

Hey all,

I did something intresting today i took a trade in the pre uk session.. it was 1st time for me .. but Crude is very quite that time no wild swings and the backtest results shws me it is like this for 90 outta 100 times .. small stops follows the trend so i decided to give it a shot today .. got in nicely with a small stops and it drifted with the longer term trend beautifully .. 2nd trade was during the ny open straight from the longer term trend playbook nothing fancy at all .. sticking with the basics for last day of trading in 2009 .. hpefully will continue in the same way in 2010 .. Netter over 120 ticks today on single contract .. !! so not bad at all m starting to fall in love with the 5min charts but still have doubts to use them over ticks on the live accnt ..!! hpefully i can answer this all by start of the new year .. ... Bbye 2009 !!! Happy and merry Christmas to all hope u all have lots of fun with your family and loved ones

Thanks

Best Regards
Jinhar
