My goal is, Trade ES mini starting with approximately $1,000 and grow to $20,000!

How? Patience, and waiting for the right setups.
My Method:
Price action with support/resistance and CCI.

Good luck to all in the March competition!

What kind of S/R are you looking for? S/R is so broadly defined these days. Fibs/Zones/moving averages/HLOC/Globex Levels?

$1000 per contract is serious leverage, what brokers are you using?

i use infinity -and yes low amounts can be tough -thats why i think he has a great idea -it does not matter who comes out on top -its the process of the plan not the amount in the end-even with his 1000 starting fee -and 100 dollar advance is a 10% return

If you check out AMP I think you could get $400 for ES if that's what you like. I am doing there demo right now and it seems pretty good so far. Their service has gotten a lot of mixed reviews however money is money do you wanna pay 500 margin when you could be paying 400? I'm just sayin

Good luck to you guys. A word of advice though. If you do indeed get to 20k keep your system to yourself. Most traders with an edge like that would most certainly never put it on a forum such as this.

Yes, S/R has many meaning to many people. I try to keep it simple.
I like to use daily Open, Close, and Fib's.

I think you are right, S/R are so 'a la mode' these days that many programmers saw a good opportunity to make easy money selling these lines.

I hate to be a downer, but am I the only person who thinks this is not a good idea? First off the ES is a highly leveraged instrument. It can eat $1000 in a few moments. My broker will not even let you buy a single contract on $1000 account and trust me that is not because they are too over cautious or would shed a tear if I blew up my account (again).

I have over 20+ years of trading experience. My account is many many times your size. I have written automated trading strategies, even some based on the CCI and many other squiggles. I have read thousands of pages of literature on the subject of trading. I canít do what you are planning to do and so either I am stupid, or god loves you more than any trader I ever met. (If I were you I would not bet on either of those)

Why donít you trade something less volatile and with less leverage, like IWM and RWM. Better yet, why donít you paper trade for a while until you are confident. If you have a technical side try putting your strategy into NinjaScript or have someone write it for you and see how easy it is to hit a $1000 draw-down in backtest.

I suppose $1000 is not a lot of money but I would rather you gave it to the SPCA, or at least went to the Casino and got a free drink before it was gone.

I have no problem with your feedback. I have taken $1000 and made $5000 in a week.
Of course this will only happen with patience and when the market is moving and not staying in a small range.
I have traded choppy days but it takes too much out of me and too many trades.

this is for cme- i did this just to show when i am locked to 1 contract -i can't leverage or overleverage in -
today i used no chart indicators at all -the chart was blank other than candles and side prices -i used no rules either -as why mark a chart if you are going to break your rules -so today i traded 4 contracts -all single positions as i am locked to 1 contract
every trade was a guess -as when you dont stick to your rules you may as well be guessing-
bought 53 out @ 52.50
bought 48.75 out @ 43.25
bought 43.50 out @ 42.25
bought 42.75 out @ 42
remember no chart marks at all -every trade was a no-rules guess
loss today was 400 plus 20 in comish
i am done for the day other wise i would try and recoup by the rules short to 36 and reverse

so wed we will be back to our strick rules and a no -guess system-

will post the blotter in the am to verify -

bh -being its early in our goal -there are some who will watch this thread and understand in the end that if there is a real stiff plan of attack -you can trade with a small account and watch it grow - if you look through my 4 trades today you will see the 1 trade that ruined the day -at the open i guessed long and was only looking for about 9 to 10 ticks -i dont think i ever realized 2 -and it went against -but if you look at the other 3 trades and compare the exits you will see why everyone needs and hard exit plan -i dont use hard stops -but in normal trading days -i use a 7 tick max exit -if this is not in place and you are overleveraged -than cme is correct in saying you can have a blow out day and kill the account -the numbers will take care of themselves if we take care of the plan

oh and congrates on a good day of planning bh

Give the guy a break, he is trading e-mini S&P with a trading plan as good as majority of the others' on this board. $1000 these days will not even buy a 3-credit course in any major university.

Did your Ninja Trader stop this morning? When I was trying to change the chart type and value no data would load.

I had to log off 2 x to solve.

I was not in front of my system yesterday, but when I got home it was still running.

Wednesday I found myself trying to tell the market which direction to go rather than it telling me.
Got caught in the chop.

this is for cme -reguarding leverage -test this on a sim that does not shut down over night-
why leverage kills all traders using multiple contracts-time posted 8:43est
using the june contracts -
go short 1 contract at 1356.50-

now allow the trade to run against you on purpose for at least

@ 1364.50 add 8 contract (ave = 1363.61)using 9 contracts

@ 1372.50 add 72 contracts (ave =71.51)using 81 contracts

@ 1380.50 add 648 contracts (ave =79.50)using 729 contracts

@ 1388.50 add 5832 contracts (ave =87.50)using 6561 contracts

so you see why leverage kills imagine 6561 contracts @ 1387.50 -every point is a 328k move

i believe this is the same principal as the grains of rice story from the nile valley

My trades today

8:46 am S1 @ 1352.50 exit 1349.75 +2.75
9:43 am S1 @1346.75 exit 1347.50 - .75
10:12 am S1 @1345.50 exit 1344.75 +.75

For the March contest I believe you are required to post at least one chart showing your trade or video showing your trade. It certainly makes it easier to follow - I doubt if anyone has the time to go back and re-plot your fills on a chart.

Since you have stated retracement and SR trading it would be good to show those on the chart as well as the entries and exits.

..........
peace, love and joy to you

After a rough start with the choppy, and sideways days. I spent sometime reviewing my strategy.
Strategy:
Review overnight
Major moves overnight will generally cause regular trading hours to move in small range 3-5 pts
Gaps from previous days close
Large Gaps can be retraced
Small Gaps unlikely to be retraced
News - watch for major reports, stay out of market until after

*** Use fib's & Daily Trend, Supp/Res - my major indication of direction

I started back yesterday with my live account.
Trading 1 contract with targets of 1 pt, 1.5 pts and 2 pts. Depends on the overnight activity

I left all my drawings and fibs
My Goal is to only have one trade per day.
One trade requires more discipline and waiting but I believe it will make me more successful.
My Goal for the next 8 days is to have a Plus day every day.

When I close my trade my workday is done!
I have time to do other things.

After my 10 days I will reassess my strategy.
I will add more contracts to my trades.
First 10 days - 1 contract
Second 10 days - 2 contracts etc
Goal is to trade 10 contracts

I found Monday march 26 as a distracting day and found myself not following my rules.
Six trade and down 9.75 point. This only shows the importance of following rules and what happens when distracted.
Today Tuesday March 27, was much better considering I usually loss on sideways and small range days.
Three trades today and up 1 point.
My morning predictions was a downward move to 1409.75 and if breaks a target of 1405.75.
My last trade of the day had to be closed at 3:43pm since i have to pickup kids.

Congratulations on your journal!

In the spirit of our March Trading Journal contest, I am asking everyone to spend a few minutes and share their journaling experience.

A) What are the top five benefits you have seen as a result of regularly posting in this journal?

B) What are the top five problem areas you have identified as a result of regularly posting in this journal?

C) Were you initially reluctant to start this trading journal? If yes, why?

D) How do you feel, overall, about your journaling experience?

E) Would you recommend to others that they should also start a trading journal?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I appreciate your posts, and I hope you have benefited from your journal. I also know that others will benefit as well, just by reading about your own experiences.

Enjoy your weekend,
Mike
