I started my sim trading again to get CP and to really master my methods. The account started with 100k and I went down to like 76k at first. I am at 121935.65 as of today and getting more CP by the day. My goal now is to double this account to 200k and at that point I will be evaluating when/if I go back in the live market. I think it's a good goal to shoot for. I appreciate all the help that I have received here so far albeit a rocky start. Hopefully someday I will be able to contribute some help to someone here. "see ya in the room" LMAO

I don't know what your actual account size is you plan to trade (which is a personal thing that need not be shared) but I'd recommend creating your SIM account to reflect the same amount while trading the appropriate amount of risk you would with the live account. Maybe you plan to start with $100k which would be great but just a thought. My point here is that you want to try and emulate trading live as much as possible.

So an example would be, if you plan to start with say $25k while risking 2% on each trade in the ES, set your SIM cash level to that amount. That would allow you to risk 10 points per trade on one contract, 5 points trading 2 contracts, 3 points for 3 contracts and so on. Obviously, anything below 3 points is pushing it but that's just an example for you to think about.

Cheers,
PB

I had thought about that PB and the broker asked me if I wanted to do it when I was getting set up.

I will do it at the 1st of the month for sure. I agree I need to be as close to the real thing as possible. My goal is to have my mastery of my method(s) down pat when I am ready to trade IRM again so that what I am doing is second nature. Ie. Risk management and also MM. That is what I am working the hardest on as of right now. The method is what it is and is working for me well at this juncture.

I do plan to buy NT and perhaps risk manger and also profit manger to take out some of the emotion in my psyche. I would like to use a ATR trail stop as well and will have to wait till I get the program to start using that on NT. I am doing it by hand right now on sim and it works fine although I would like to just let the trade work once I am in it and let the technology do what it does. I think that it will be worth every penny paid for it if indeed it really does do what they say it can do.

One of my goals is to be as hands free as possible. Pull the trigger and manage. And do it well.

As far as re capping my account? It's TBD. If I can't do it with what I want I just won't trade until I can and keep my chops up on the sim until such time as I can trade how I have planned to trade.

Getting a new roof put on the house today so since I have to stick around the house I am analyzing my charts from this week's trading. All in all not bad results. A coupla rough starts however I got it working on those days and ended up in the green so it was all good. Both times I was just a bit to eager to trade. Nothing wrong with the method just not waiting till it came to me. Working hard on that! Also working hard on and studying more on RM and MM. Once I have a handle on those 2 aspects of my trading I will be even more at ease with my method(s).

I hear you PB. For me too. It was like the overall market couldn't make up it's mind with every other bar wanting to be a double spiked bar or not. I hope it's just overall low volume.

Sorry, I didn't mean your volume indicator, but the overall trading volume of the markets particularly crude and ES. I think your trading has been super, just today was hard for everyone I thought. I made a bad mistake and wiped out my gains for the most part today haha.

Don't feel bad Cloudy. The mistakes I made today with those indi's cost me almost everything I had made in the last 3 weeks. Like 23k. It's totally whack!!!
It's my own damn fault though.. I shoulda freakin known better than to do anything other than what I had been doing that was working for me.

They only do like 3 moves in ZW and I was hoping to be able to see the turns better in there cuz I don't read regular volume very well and wasn't really using it at all.. The I saw how cool these indi's were and I thought maybe they might help me see it better. NOT SO MUCH!!!!

Dang. I didn't realize it was like that from looking at your charts. Sorry. I'm sure you'll get back on track. I liked using Cory's volume too for a while, but I realized it was just too much info displayed for me after a while which may or may not really help with entries and exits or I hadn't figured out how to use it correctly. Now I'm just using better volume3 and Big Mike's up/down volume combined. Mainly I just look for "churn" areas near divergences, and for some volume confirmation. I've never figured out how to trade directly off each volume bar.

Well That's a wrap!! Today's total loss was $13825. Ahhhh well. Guess I can't take the G5 out of the hanger this weekend..LOL Now it will be a challenge to make it back just using my normal PA only method that is working for me right now. That's the real beauty of the market.. You get to make it back.. RIGHT???

Let me clarify the above here. I am in no way saying today's losses were due to the indicators I was trying. It's a fact that most everyone on this forum has those and perhaps uses/ed them. I am fairly certain I just "don't get it". No big deal. I will try it again tomorrow. I am sure if 2000k people downloaded them someone has made them work. Dunno about trading with them IRM but who knows. I hope for the best and expect 0.

this is like going to xyz seminar and getting pump up about xyz indies. So as soon as you get home you load them all on and they look real good on a stale chart (in case you haven't notice all indies look real good on a stale chart). Keep them on for a couple of days if they do nothing for you, dump them. Part of process is find out what rings your bell, exmp: CCI does nothing for me.

No worries Cory and TY again for getting the link to moi. Giving it another whirl tomorrow. I have a good sim feed so I can try a bunch of charts and time frames to scope them out. If like to make it work for my ZW trades for sure to see the turns in PA.

If I can make 23k on sim using no indi's at all then what is problem with using 1-2 and make them work to your edge and advantage. It's what they are for..

Total loss for this week on sim trying out the newest indi's I had downloaded was in the neighborhood of 27k. I lost everything I had mafe and was up the last 3 weeks and a little of the base capital. I hope for the best next. Going back to what was working for me just using PA only.

Gotta have/use a method that works and have good RM & MM.

On April 1st I am going to reset my sim account balance to reflect what I am planning on trading with live and then try to perfect my method accordingly. I feel this will be a next crucial phase in my development as a live money trader. I have been in there live already x 2 and it was not good however I did not have the method I trade presently ( hell I didn't a method at all).

Then we'll see if what I am doing can make money for me IRM. If it can then I will think about returning to the live market at the end of my working season provided I can gain the capital needed to recap my trading account with a decent amount of capital. I have the figure in my head so I am going to trade it on sim and make it work.

If it is not possible then I just continue to trade sim and be CP everyday until such time as I can trade again IRM.

I am in no hurry this time!!!

Lesson learned in that gotta watch how hard I click the mouse. I ended up with a 20 car trade when I only wanted 10. Notes are on the chart. Went over to ZW and missed the open as the gardener ( my sister) was here cutting in a new bed and I was outside talking to her about the design. Newbies lurking? Always be completely focused on your trading. NO distractions. They can cost you. Always know where you are on your chart at all times! Good lesson I learned today was that I can reverse a trade and have it work for me. I did it twice today and although I got stopped out I WAS right to do it.
All said and done it was a losing day for -300 and considering the errors it could have been a loooooot worse.

Just having a really hard time of it today in there so I am stopping now while I am up. Took more trades today than normal and started to over trade so time to stop. Chart is down there. It's ugly but there's some money there. +1125 for the day. Albeit the ugliness. Knowing when to stop is one of the hardest things to get in your head AND TO DO. Not even bothering with ZW today.

Only took a couple of trades this morning as I had a project scheduled for today. Almost fell for the ole trap and slap but not quite. Glad I quit when I did. Ended up with +337.50 for my troubles this morning. Then in the afternoon I had a killer day at the gig albeit mega wind, A tidy little $1000 profit in 5 hours. Not too bad!!! Chart is down there.

Took 4 ticks of heat on trade 3 before it went into profit. I didn't like it however it is what it is.
3 trades today on sim for a total of $1750. Charts with notations and the final chart with just markers are down there.

So I am watching this vid last night and the interviewer guy asks about profit targets and stops and this witch says " I do use a profit target but I just use a mental stop loss". I laughed my ass of on that one. I mean she looked good and all but she was CLEARLY foooking nuts...LMAO

A mental stop loss?? And then she woke up!!!!

Today's trading went well as it could go I guess. I took 2 extra trades 1 winner 1 loser.
The loser hit my hard stop and took out half of what I had made on the first 4 trades.
I normally only do 3 trades and then I am done. Seems as though when we go off our plan is when things get kooky. Chart is down there.

PB,

I'll be interested to see what your trading journal reads like once you begin sim trading realistic contracts.

Would also like to see your

a) average risk
b) maximum risk

per trade.

Finally, is averaging into a trade going to be how you would really trade with real money?

One more, will you use hard stops and honor them?

peace

Hedvig

p.s. Personally I think you would be best suited to a methodology that is laid out in a step by step manner that requires you to have confirmation on at least 2 timeframes and trading with the trend on 1st pullback after trend established (preferential) and looking at 2nd pullbacks within a trend.

Perhaps also a 'with the trend' Momentum Breakout strategy as well.

I see NO edge with a simple 20ema/ma.

Are you trading both breakouts and pullbacks or crossovers or ???

If indicators give your brain overload--simpler price action trading might help.

Thanks researcher247.

I will be curious to see how it works out on Monday as well. I am as I said previously resetting my NT balance to the amount I will be trading with live when I go back to trading IRM.

I use a AI/AO method that's it. No scaling no runners. I have it simple and I intend on keeping it that way. Runners are only a win win if you exit 80% of the position and then run the last 20 ONLY after moving the SL to BE+1 as far as I am concerned. It is just more than I care to do.

My risk reward is off right now and I realize that however it lets me stay in the trade. I can always just close it out if I am not feeling it and do just that. Today's hard stop out was a test and it DID NOT work. I normally only will go 2-4 ticks red then just close and reassess/wait for the next set up.

Hard stops are not easy to see get hit. NO ONE likes it however it is what it is in this arena. They are part of the rules and they must be followed. I am resolved to that fact.

My method is flat out scalping. Don't need any edge for what I am doing. What you do need is to call the move right at the right time. It made me 23k on sim in 3 weeks with very few losers. The losers are much bigger than the winners when they come but it is what it is.

There is 0 trade management on 1 car so again it's very simple in nature. It works for me. Will it work for anyone else? I do not have an answer for that. The rules are simple and that's WHY it works. PA tells you what you need to know to call it right. HOPEFULLY.. LOL

The hard 8 SL goes in with the ATM. I only move it IN never out. Mostly if I have called it wrong or am just not feeling it or the reason I got in the trade has become invalid I just close it sometimes even with a small loss which sucks. The other rule for exit is 4 candles. If the PT or SL has not been hit in 4 candles trade is closed. Look for next set up OR if the close out is on trade #3 that's it for the day.

As far as it working in live market with real money that's TBD.

This method is for ES only and entry is ONLY at key entry points. I only trade ES so I have no idea if it works any where else nor do I care because I can make everything I need right in there. I think the more you look at the more mistakes and money can be lost. I like money and aim to keep every penny I make. My goal is income not building up 100k account balance that sits there. I will be taking 90% out and only letting account build 500 at a time. I do not believe you need to have 100k in account to trade for income and to just make money. But that's just me. Others will argue that fact I am sure.

D) How do you feel, overall, about your journaling experience?

E) Would you recommend to others that they should also start a trading journal?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I appreciate your posts, and I hope you have benefited from your journal. I also know that others will benefit as well, just by reading about your own experiences.

Enjoy your weekend,
Mike

I would say that the main things that this journal has me helped to do is identify where I need to have more time in study. The different areas which were somewhat part of my trading although not areas of focus.. Those for me were Risk Management and Money Management (this ones easy cuz I don't have any Damn money!!!) JK

I started studying RM & MM more and found that I could trade less and make more if I had this down. Trading is fun for me as I am smart and find the chance to become smarter is a caveat of trading. Let's face it traders NO ONE knows what the market is going to do. I find it very much interesting to try to come up with a hypothesis of what it COULD be doing and then be able to make money from it.

I also looked around to see if there was any software around for NT to help with RM and MM so that the technology can do it's work. I firmly believe the more you can let the technology work for you the less emotion has to be involved with the trade. All I do now is WAIT for my set up to come to me and take the trade maybe moving my stop IN but never out. The waiting part is the hardest however has been becoming easier now because I know the set up IS coming.

I was not at all reluctant to start a journal at futures.io (formerly BMT) as I already had one going at another joint I hang out at,,LOL I would recommend it for all newbie's right from the start. If it can help me in my trading and to be CP on a daily basis I am all for it. I'd rather eat broken glass and wash it down with gasoline than give money from my capital to the market.

I am very fortunate to have very nice life (even without trading) I own my house, I own my 3 vehicles. and basically have 0 debt. My work is as such as I only work 6 months a year and then can go anywhere, do anything, at anytime, with anyone I want the other 6 months a year. (preferably a hot 25 year deaf mute gymnast with a killer body and HUGE eyes).. LMAO

Albeit having a bit of a rough start at futures.io (formerly BMT) I have enjoyed reading about others trading. Although I am not a member of the elite cult LOL I am sure there is great stuff from traders in there. I think that traders can benefit from what others are doing ONLY in the context of theory. Will what I am trading work in the market for traders other than myself. Perhaps, however most likely not. I have taken different things I learned in my education and while I was coming up and put them into my own "sort of method" LOL. For any trader it's what works for THEM. It's about being right and being right at the right time. If not, time to GTFO or reverse. YOU ARE IN CONTROL!!!!!

On Monday I will be changing my SIM balance to what I will be trading with live in the market when I go back in. This will give me a better understanding of IF I even want to do it anymore. If not then so be it. (fuel up the G5 and take the gymnast to necker island and go to town on her) LMAO If so then I will know that what I am doing and the way I trade can make money consistently which is what we all want. RIGHT???

Thanks for keeping me around Mike.

OK well that's it then. I have zeroed out my account balance and reset it with what I will plan to trade live with when I go back. Tomorrow will be the first day trading with that in mind. I am not changing anything. All I did was bring the account to reflect the real money I will be trading with.. Method and everything else is still the same as before.

A little to eager to try out my new balance this morning. Everything ended up positive however I had to reverse trade 2 and I don't like doing that because of the money loss. I ended up making it back on trade 3 because I put my PT up at the MA which was hit within 1 candle. 3 trades for $150 today and done at 940am. Chart is down there.

It;s 10am and I am done with my 3 trades for the day. Had 3 winners however trade 3 was stopped out. I could have closed it out with $125 profit but I decided to stay with it and see how it played out.
So today was $200 on 1 car in 1.5 hours. I can live with it. Chart is down there.

0939am annnnnd that's a wrap people. Now I am off to do a driveway raising and caulking project and make some real money for my recapitalization of my trading account. It's the hardest fooooking money you will ever make trust me on this. I hope to be able to be CP enough by the end of this work season to perhaps be able to trade full time next year. TBD.... Chart is down there. 3 winners = $200.

I tried adding on to a trade I was already in today as an experiment. I got out of trade 3 by the skin of my damn teeth and won't do that again till I have a bit more experience at it. Had 3 winners again today however trade 3 as I said was freakin sketchy to say the least.. Gonna just stay with what always works. I have been trying to let my trades go a little longer now and it does seem to work out.
My 4 tick scalping ALWAYS works unless I don't WAIT. So for the short week I won 12 trades in a row. Chart is down there. Enjoy the weekend people...

PB, I don't know if you are aware, but Al Brooks is a contributor to futures.io (formerly BMT) having had a couple of webinars recorded in the Elite section. So I would not laugh too much.

Regards,

Dudley

I've followed Brooks for a while PB. I have his new books and read through his original. I've also attended 3 months of his live webinars. He doesn't make calls but lets the audience know some of the trades after the session is over. Thanks for the current link to that interview. Unfortunately he never covers his realtime "binary" decision making that he mentions in the interview, in detail in his books which is frustrating. And he's more of a scalper. That's why he mentions 10-20 trades a day. I think he trades at least 20 car. On bad days, if the bars are full of spikes and there aren't any good Brooks price action, he says better to stay out and he would mention he took none to a one or two trades for the day. He does go over his whole session in an update thread which if you register (free) on his website, can be seen every day. Brooks Price Action - Index Again he rarely mentions actual trades he took in the notes and where and entry and exit. I think if he recorded sessions where at least he did a replay and showed actual entries and exits on a dom or on his chart, it would go a long way to be more helpful.

"He doesn't make calls but lets the audience know some of the trades after the session is over. Thanks for the current link to that interview. Unfortunately he never covers his realtime "binary" decision making that he mentions in the interview," OH really???

To me that's a RED flag!!! Mine as well be Joe James then. Is Al trading live or on sim? Is Al trading his OWN money or clients money? Is Al posting his live results on winners AND losers? Anyone paying for a service had better have done their homework/due dillgence on whom they are trading with, doing business with or buying junkware from. IF you haven't you mine as well flush the money down the toilet. What sort of a guarantee does Al give if any? I'd be asking to see results and proof from the broker that he is indeed making money on real trades.JMO
