Thanks @ratfink for the nice holiday wishes - I too hope for you that you get those giants from Sweden out.

In fact I will pause trading until start of August. The reason is not having holidays but because of bad results I had in July since 2012. The learning curve tells me not to follow the same bad habits on an on...

With those trading free days I will concentrate on developing more a profound business for environment - means turning bad soils into good ones - to get plants healthy again. Drying parts of the world are growing. We don't need more deserts. That means larger problems are ahead for a growing number of people needing food.
This endeavor will bring me to some problem zones abroad - some more travelling into unknown fields

I am happy to have found with my 2 trading systems on fio the possibility to omit long screen time - but to just prepare, set up the trade with direction, start time, end time and setting an appropriate stop loss. Then let it run.

For all those that have the opportunity I wish you great holidays! For all others: HAPPY TRADING!
And for the competitors in the July contest: GOOD TRADES - and MOST THANKS.

Quite a down gap this morning - plus normalizing volumes.

So a trade today
Dax short 9:30 to 14:30
entry @ 12574
exit @ 12441
result 133 points

Good trades!
GFIs1

PS: not a bad start after a slow July...

Friday had a hi/lo of 208 points (Dax cash hours).
This morning the opening shows a further down gap (Turkey Lira crash).

So no trade today foreseen.
Price now 1233x. The test of the 12k is not far.

Good trades

Dax started a bit above yesterday's low. That was not about Erdogan's threats against USA but more because of good economic numbers in Germany.
For tomorrow I see again a bigger drop in the Dax (like Monday) - might get down to earlier mentions of killing 12k.

Nothing to decide today - but tomorrow - depending on the start into the cash day 9/9:30.

Today (Thursday) forms a nice pattern in the Dax that supports us to hopefully see
a nice upcoming trade for Friday.

Helping instruments:
• the forming of a curving pattern (blue)
• the strong descending KUMO from Friday morning

Both indicate a strong movement down on Friday.
Not to forget small witch @ 13:00h.

Prepared Thursday 11:00:

Hope this helps

Taking just the most moving days - here Mo/We/Fr - allow to take some longer trades
that might give on the up the best points - on the downside a strict optimized stop.

All together brings the needed points to stay above the harsh line that shows if we win
or not. Never forget about the costs that are to pay like margins, slippage, time invested
and much more. Even the developing knowledge about trading is normally not for free.
Because it takes a lot of time of trial and error plus money - when lost - not coming back...
Your chance: here on fio the trading advice is FREE

Such given - concentrating on less trades/time - and only on "looking good" day situations
gives results that fulfill above sentence(s).

Good trades

Thanks for asking - to make it clear:
A preparation on a next day is some indicator if movements and directions are good to start a trade.

To be very clear: the Friday trade will be taken only on GFIs1 rule set for Friday.
Means waiting on the development on Friday 9:00 - 9:30.
Nothing else.

Hi GFIS1 ...and all ...

It would be interesting to see extra running stats on this thread for your week end summary.

Weekly:
#Trades this week
#Winning trades
#Losing trades
#points won
#points lost
#net change
Year to date:
#Total trades this year
#Winning trades
#Losing trades
#Points Won
#Points Lost
#net change

...and if you were feeling very charitable .....

Rolling 12 months:
#Total trades
#Winning trades
#Losing trades
#Points Won
#Points Lost
#net change

This would give a solid picture and reminder of the essence of the system.

Cut the losers ... let the runners run ... don't trade all the time ...

very best regards

Hello @podski

Here a short overview from my homework - which includes statistics of both GFIs1 journals here (means including the Walzer trades).
Most of your asked cumulated points are here in compact view:

Here 2 more homework snippets to get more statistical information:

First is the weekday statistic - which has been shown some time ago here - with the cumulated points made on every single weekday from beginning of this thread.

The second statistic is just cumulated points for 2018 up to yesterday.
As I skipped to trade on most Tuesdays and Thursdays - the statistics are of course more on the resting 3 days. As we can see as a result is that Monday and Friday are obviously the best weekdays with this system.
Some holidays / last of month etc. when trades are not taken on the "normal" days - some Tuesdays and Thursdays have still given points...

Here:

Looking @ Dax daily some obvious "W" pattern is on its way - which might get with high probability some up to nearly 13200 until Sep starting Oct.
Have a look at the chart - indicating this... (does not mean tomorrow's trade will be a long )

Thursday without any direction - looks like a normal Friday rule trade:

Dax short 9:30 to 13:30

entry @ 12390
exit @ 12420 (SL)
result -30 points

edit 11h: very good German export numbers for second quarter pushed the Dax to the sky - to fall right after again-
as previewed with the trade and direction. So the stop came in: Shit happens

Preparing trades for next week(s):

Monday 3rd of September: Labor Day

No trades foreseen on both days.
Special rule for Friday 31 of August of course...

England, Ireland and wales

Thanks rleplae - mixed that up. My calendar did not mention which countries.
In fact the trading volume in the Dax is less when some big players are not in the market.
Right then the GFIs1 system does not work well for the signals.
Same for holidays.
Just reducing risk to jump into the stop loss bumper - which is not needed.
In hindsight my decision was right for Monday: the signal was short - the price range
was within 30 to 40 points until 16:00 (long after my normal exit time) to climb up quickly.

So I did not start negative in this week

The bad news - it came 1 day too late for me

Thanks @tr8er - No - was in the train and entered the 1h price instead of the 30m

The real prices are visible now. Sorry for that.
Yeah - some travel time is sometimes necessary. But the automated rules are
on track.

Not much changes with the +4 points trade though...

Looking @ Dax daily some obvious "W" pattern is on its way - which might get with high probability some up to nearly 13200 until Sep starting Oct.
Have a look at the chart - indicating this... (does not mean tomorrow's trade will be a long )

GFIs1

Above scenario may be smoked:
The "W" is far from reached. Instead the price went lower than the double bottom mentioned.
So things will likely head down in the next few months.
In fact - the positive about it - is to get easier points on the shorts...

Ciao guidoisot
I see it the same - stop hunting - and then the reversal.
Thats why I took a countertrade 11-13h see above.
Is my normal Wednesday rule when things are tricky like strong range on previous day or after a gap @ open.

Good trades

Ciao.

12033 was way up, right at the double top, when it could 50/50 continue up or retrace
what made you decide for the short?
a candle pattern? a divergence? a market profile analysis? Order flow? ...
what timeframe chart were you using for deciding?
.... if I may ask.
thx

Of course you can ask: Wednesday in my pattern system is >90% short.
Just the entry and exit times may change depending on what happened the day before
and on the IB 9:00 to 9:30.
As my rule (extended time length) did not work - I switched to my normal rule.
That went good today - but no more trades...

Looking back on this triple witch week we see some movements from 12050 to around 12400. Not really challenging - but Intraday some really not predictable zigzag took out many stops on either side.

Beware:
Triple witch weeks are VERY TRICKY - don't trade at all if you are not sure of risk!

How do you know it will be a triple witch week? When is the next one and how does GFIs1 prepare for it?
I agree, yesterday did not make any sense. Not that it ever does in my world but yesterday felt different.

Hi Grantx
A triple witch week is when the 3 big futures. Expire - time for the DAX future is always @ 13:00h. Open positions will be automatically closed by the broker normally to the last price.

Future expiration is always on the 3rd Friday of the month.
The big future expirations are always in the last week of a quarter - exactly on 3rd Friday of that month.

There are always several futures in the market ahead of the actual one - those are not so volatile as the volume is much lower.

The actual Dax future is the December 2018 one that will expire on 21st December - then triple witch week!

Hope this helps

I have a Channel where I too post my trades. I shorted the DAX yesterday but promised the Mrs not to trade any more as it was a Friday and I have had a poor track record trading on a Friday. I could only watch in anguish as the price kept going lower and lower. I shorted 12369 @2 exited 2 for 123010 !

I see it your way: DOWN
But today my rarely used rule did NOT work.
And your mention of VWAP least traded is obscure.

Be aware of Wednesday closed - things might go other ways than thought.

My next trade will be on Friday - then things hopefully will have been settled.

Good trades

what I wanted to point out was the fact that vwap price at that time was one of the lowest volume spots on the profile, ie (my interpretation?) it was a price level right at the middle of two opposite blocks. This looked to me as kind of unusal and I thought it was implying first a revisit of vwap price level and then ... whatever, possibly a substantial move on the direction of either one of the two group. Right now vwap poc and current price almost coincide, ie: balance, so based on this I would not expect any major move later on before today EU closing.

As the profile develops some more information gets to the surface.
After a - here important - quarter closing with a very high daily range (hi/lo) the subsequent day is not really a "normal day" - therefore some more risk.
Things will get back to normal - and profiles as well as system trades will be the good base again.

Good trades!

thanks for this.

As a matter of fact EU50 jumped up today, reversing the (fake) down trend of Monday.

if dax will catch up the EU50, tomorrow it should open with a nice gap up.

Does your "system" tell the same message for tomorrow dax open ?

update next morning:

no gap!

that's right, as some successful traders say: always expect the unexpected.

...some successful traders say: always expect the unexpected.

Well hi @guidoisot

My system does not predict anything - not even next day's opening.
It is the contrary - just the IB (opening from 9:00 to 9:30) will tell which rule
of the system has to be taken on that specific day. Means pattern reading.
The rule just tells the direction, the entry and the exit time. Depending
on the occasion the stop will be set to 30 or 40 points accordingly.

Hi
when your outlook for the day is not one with the highest probabilities, (according to your own analysis) did you ever consider using weekly atm options for hedging your positions?
With low vola they are not too expensive, especially on Fridays when they expire @13h00?
or, anyway, also other options with different expires? always for hedging.
thx.
Best

.

Well hi @guidoisot

Of course I am aware of hedging. This might compensate for loss but cuts my winners too.
So my answer is NO.
I am a simple trader with a straightforward strategy which gains more than losing.
The secret is in the optimized stop loss settings for this and only this instrument.
I am trading punctually on 30m entry and exit which are known before taking the trade.
Then I let the market play out: most of the time (means more than 50%) there is a winner.
As you can see following my thread here.
In fact - some negative trades are absolutely normal and necessary. Those do not affect
my trading. FYI I have the same rules since 2012 except just some small adjustments
which let me drop eg. Tuesday and Thursday trades.

My goal is to set up a trade in the morning with all entry/exit/SL. Then I do not longer follow
but let the market play.
During this time I am able to do other tasks

Easy - isn't it?
Happy weekend - e buona Domenica

High possibility to see some lower lows tomorrow...
Today a drop and recover above is the right sign.
Still 195 points hi/lo during cash hours. Which does not stop our trade:
A typical Wednesday short!

Good trades - @ Miguel in London too

Is drop and recover not a sign of strength? But you still expect a lower low ?

Good morning Rugosoft

Indeed - but only if drop and recover is for more than 1 day. That was only a intraday move.
Other signs for lower lows:
30m blocked by upper KUMO
1h has strong down Kumo ahead
daily dito

just my opinion

Today the hi/lo during cash hour (not finished yet) is 211 points.
This means tomorrow no trade (anyway).
But a Walzer is ahead - I will be on alert and take a Walzer if there is a signal.

Good trades

..but my warning from Tuesday had even been more worse:
Dax started with a large gap down @ 11545
IB 9:00 to 9:30 hi/lo 90 points (a Walzer quite possible)
A recovery is necessary but seems not durable.

At the moment there is a large field of lower numbers in the indices.
Until the end of the year and first two months 2019 the upper trend is
SHORT.

Being careful in taking the trades can help.

Watch here the development - trade still in action until 18:00 or 19:00 resp.:

Looks like we see another red week again.
The weekly chart shows quite a pattern for this - might turn later.

Bayern poll (Landtag) yesterday was very bad for CSU and a desaster for SPD - means the
Berlin coalition CDU/CSU/SPD gets problems...
In 2 weeks poll in Hessen - same development foreseen.

Why I am telling this: The Dax is very strong connected with the decisions of the parliament(s).
Uncertainty is poison for the stock holders - thus some larger scale selling is the consequence.

ATTENTION: Xetra had tech problems from 9:00 to now.
This means no futures trade could be taken - just floor trading was normal.
Volume was very low for IB - that made it difficult.

XETRA works again since 10:30

Dear follower

This journal has now reached nearly 7 years of continuous signal giving and journal posts in real time.
Very long for a real and just personal journal - even here on fio.

What had been accomplished:
• 6+ years of positive results (charts in next post) - also during tough waters (eg. 2016)
• Great discussions with the readers - thus more than 400'000 page views - thanks to you!
• Optimization over time which can be seen with even better results. (2018 exceeds over best GFIs1 2017 result)
• Not changing the rules very much over time
• Sticking to the plan - means being very accurate, organized and concentrated to trade according the own rules
• Helping other fio members to open their personal journal and to stick to it over a certain time

Now that you know how the GFIs1 system works - there is no need to prolong to post the trades 3 times/week

What was on the plate since starting the journal 2012?
During the tougher volatility I started another system with most easy rules - one that can be handled
semi-automated Dax trades: The WALZER.
With easy rules that gave many positive points with little effort and time.

What both systems showed:
• Getting positive results - over a long period - with little screen time because of the multi optimization
• Being prepared to know exactly WHEN NOT TO TRADE
• Trading under low personal pressure

My thanks go first to @Big Mike - he gave all of us traders a great platform with millions of shared information.
He also organized some great contests. THAT was my reason to present my own journal with the daily trades.

Not less important: my friends I got on the fio platform worldwide:
@alejo, @AnasParis, @aquarian1, @bergimax, @bobwest, @Blash, @Bri219, @crazybears, @creekboy, @Daytrader999, @Devil Man, @Fadi, @fscalpone, @guidoisot, @iqgod, @Itchymoko R.I.P., @Koepisch, @mamorvi, @matevisky @mea109, @Only, @pipambassador, @pipandrun, @Rachel, @Renkotrader, @The Duke, @GruttePier and especially @ratfink
plus many others - some that are no longer on fio...

and of course to all my longtime Swiss friends @@Rugosoft, @redgreen et.al.

Finally thanks to the moderators @tturner86, @sam028, and @xplorer without them fio would not work.

WELL - I will finish THIS journal not now - but on end of YEAR 2018 - with all results!

Don't worry - I will not leave fio - just being active and following YOUR journals.

Stay tuned for the results end of the year on both journals!

Dear follower

Well GFIs1,

I enjoyed following your daily trades tremendously - what I really liked was your 'professional trader' attitude and discipline, showing that trading systematically (I don't mean with an algo, just having a 'system') works well for those who stick to their own rules and understanding of their market of choice.

I still remember one of my very early posts where I got into a debate between discretionary Vs. algorithmic trading and one of the replies was from you saying that I would find really good stuff for free here on FIO. Since then I admired your methodical approach to trading.

On one hand it's sad to learn that soon this thread will come to a close, but I appreciate that all good things have a beginning and an end. Plus, this will give me a chance at some point to start from the very beginning of the journal and see its evolution.

Glad to know you'll still be around!

Hello @ GFIs1,

thanks a lot for your great work. I had read some of your posts and they were in times I were trading the FDAX or the FDXM an inspiration for me and my trading. That is really good.

I am switching from aktive to passive trading and back some times in the past, because sometimes there are other things, they are having a new priority for me. I am happy, that you are staying here in Big Mikes home for all his "children" all over the world

Best regards and for the new step in your trading life the best wishes from me. We stay in contact.

Thanks @xplorer for the nice words.
Happy to hear that you were attracted by the fio threads giving a tremendous overview of trader's fears & sweats.
I am very happy to be STILL part of the community. Of course!

Our goal must be: attract - Attract - ATTRACT new traders of any stage to open a personal journal.

Happy trading all

Short is well spotted ! Chapeau. Your exit is always time based. Never a price target? Today you could consider the 11500 area as support, which would give an above average profit in your trading system.
